Make a Microwave Popcorn Bag - No Raw Edges!

We hear a lot about Potato Bags (I show how to make one with this template in another video!) and there are lots of versions out there but we hardly ever hear about popping plain popcorn kernels in the microwave. I know we all have some of those pre-packaged popcorn bags that are not the healthiest or freshest so lets make some that’s better!
I’ll show how to make a Popcorn Bag perfect for the microwave with no unfinished seams (even on the boxed bottoms!). Finished seams are better for food and the bag will stay fresher/cleaner longer. You can wash it but you won't need to wash each time you use it. To make this even better for popcorn, I show how to make a bag that 'stands up' when it's full. I also add a little strap so it's easy and safe to remove from the microwave when it's still hot.
Why Popcorn with my Popcorn Bag vs. Pre-Packaged Popcorn:
1. It's fresher.
2. It's healthier.
3. It's chemical free.
4. It's cheaper!
5. After popping, add your own butter or spray and season to taste.
6. Plus, it's just fun!
Instead of buying those pre-packaged bags full of oil, salt, preservatives and chemicals, you only need 1/2 cup of plain popcorn kernels found most anywhere.

I watched the first half of this video about an hour ago, and went to the sewing room and made one. Now I'm going back and rewatching to see what I missed (yes, I do fall asleep when watching KZbin videos LOL) -- I missed a lot!! But it worked, even with the little bit I remembered. I made some popcorn for me and hubby, and it was so easy!! I can make some of these for a gift exchange with my family.

Have you had your bag scorch and actually brown and tear? Should I be using a bit of water in the micro?

I haven't had any bad experiences with any items in the microwave. I use the materials I've listed & only heat for short intervals. I've seen ones that they sell in stores that are not even made of 100% cotton fabric so I definitely don't know how those are safe! I'm sure there are websites that have additional information about this. Maybe someone else has more info or can answer your question about water.

I have tried this twice. Both times the bag burned on the seam allowances where the upper fold is. That's the only place it burns. I used cotton material and cotton thread. Any ideas?

For the tab, to save time, how about using 100% cotton Twill Tape?

Sure, that would work, too! Just give it a quick wash to remove any chemicals it might have. There might be a lot of weight in the bag and you'll be pulling on the strap so it needs to hold up over time. I did 4 corn on the cobs the other night & they were heavy!

Ha Ha - thank you pointing that out! This is my business so it is both! But seriously, I apologize if it comes across as 'salesy'. I don't make money from KZbin like many others do. I create and sell No Slip Templates using a costly laser machine. I hear from customers every day how much the No Slip helps with cutting. Many make these for family & friends, but many others make these items to sell. When you are able to cut easily & quickly in bulk that makes a huge difference in time & quality. But you don't have to use my templates to make these items. You can take the info that I share & do your own thing as the lady in the previous comment did with great success. I try to give enough techniques or tips that will make watching mine worthwhile but there are lots of others that you can watch instead. Thanks for your feedback.

Sorry, I haven't posted written directions on these yet. I had hoped to but decided to focus on the Care & Handling Info & post it since that kind of info isn't readily available online but the directions are. I apologize as I have been swamped with so many things, both personal & business. I am just trying to keep up! I'm still hoping to find someone that can watch my videos & write out the directions that I share in exchange for a free template. Are you interested? Fingers crossed....!

It's not on the website yet. I mentioned on my Winner Designs for Sewing & Quilting Page that I'm working on the 'How to Make' & 'How to Use' directions for the Popcorn Bag, Potato Bag & the Tortilla Warmer (video filmed but not posted yet.) When I get them all done, I'll have the girl that does my website post them. For now, I am including the 'How to Use' for the 2 bags with the purchase of the Microwave Bag.' As for the fabric, I'm not sure where I got the popcorn fabrics. I bought them a couple years ago when I put together a popcorn-themed gift basket so they may not even be available anymore.... I would not use the corner template. Not safe. I would fraw my line and cut with the scissors. Great tutorial

So sorry to hear this! Lots of viewers don't know about my No Slip Templates & that I make & sell these. There are lots of videos that show making Popcorn Bags using paper templates or acrylic rulers so I try to show the difference when using my No Slip backing.
