Why didn't you include your website address in the description below? Anyhow, your video was very informative. I have astigmatism in my left eye that wants to move around and cause double vision a lot. But doctors refuse to make a prism for me.

How would you cope with ptosis induced irregular astigmatism that's so severe I have fake images above AND below the actual image of what I'm viewing by the end of the day? Renders my glasses completely useless, makes no visual difference with them on or off.

I have a myopic astigmatism in both eyes. I'm going to go for a lasik consultation, I just hope it's not lenticular. Anybody know how to tell the different between lenticular astigmatism vs any other type? Edit: Nm he answered my question. I've worn soft lenses to correct my astigmatism in the past so, it's most likely not lenticular.

what do you mean that glasses can correct astigmatism, do you mean that after using glasses for a long time your eyesight will improve or your vision would just become sharper if you only wear it? sorry I'm just confused

glasses dont cure refractive error, they only correct it.

Gia Giorgadze You can, and LASIK procedure are rarely have complications especially long term ones blurry vision or photophobic do occur right after the procedure but it's normal and will eventually get better it wont do anything with eye muscle it will just repair cornea Hope You get better

I am an astigmatic and sometimes even after wearing glasses I can't focus and get blurred. Which is better for better vision contact lens or glasses for astigmatism? I am thinking of getting contact lens if it has better vision. Plis rply
@crock28807 жыл бұрын
I wore toric contacts for astigmatism for years. They are "weighted" to correct the astigmatism, which made them very uncomfortable. I started wearing my glasses more because it wasn't worth it. Even with glasses though things will still go out of focus. I was told that the astigmatism can be more permanently corrected with lasik so I'm now gonna go that route.

Acuvue Oasys has contact lens for astigmatism and they are super soft and pretty much the same as a regular one but there's some sort of technology behind it that they could make it soft. You should really look it up because me and my sis wear them and they helped me a ton! Thing is with astigmatism you always get an occasional blur. Also it can get pricy for me because I have to buy regular for my left and astigmatism for my right.

How come you are not talking about eye exercise ans right diet?
@SianaGearz8 жыл бұрын
+Leeza Topchiy Well what's that gonna do? One of my major mistakes, was to believe those people who said you shouldn't wear glasses, should do eye exercise and eat carrots. It was hard to me to tell that i couldn't see well, it seemed that i just need to put a little more effort into it. When you get too used to it, your brain starts masking the issue, but it has to work extra hard, so discomfort is a result. I had migraines for most of my life until i started wearing glasses. According to my experiences, i believe people who believe in Bates method are suffering from a delusion, their brains are accommodating and tricking them, rather than the vision being improved. I can see the benefit of diet and exercise to preserve elasticity of tissues, the health of nerve endings, and the range of muscle motion for accommodation; however astigmatism isn't either of those. Once your cornea has grown anisotropic in shape, it will stay that way forever.

Siana Gearz How can you explain that some people can reduce astigmatism and actually they get lower prescriptions? Your eyeball can change if you change your bad habits,but this could take months,years,we don't know...
@SianaGearz7 жыл бұрын
Susana Fonseca Prescriptions are noisy and very much based on perceptions of the patient. In my experience, when i got a lower prescription, a while later i found that the stronger one actually allowed me to see better, with a drawback that it might be more tiresome to adapt to. But you don't see well when you are tired either, so there's a tradeoff to be made there, a tradeoff that optometrists are usually not equipped to make, not with limited time they have per patient, nor with the lack of information on how the person actually feels in detail. I too have learned to live with astigmatism without knowing it, and i could read much better than other people with astigmatism without glasses. I can no longer read so well without glasses. Image processing in the brain is very flexible and based around learned pattern matching - the constant necessity to do so made me match blurry patterns to characters better. But it didn't make me see better. You know the astigmatic mirror? It's a pattern of lines. It showed the same distortion in line thickness years ago (when i could read without glasses better) as it does now, indicating that it's not the vision that has changed at all. It's rather obvious that the reverse is also true, that some or all of the astigmatic people who decide to learn to live without glasses also learn to recognize shapes better in spite of not actually seeing better. But in my experience it's a torture that i wouldn't want to repeat, it's not worth it. So there's a systematic fault in vision tests that are performed with characters of alphabet rather than with abstract shapes that are not encountered daily. Eyeball changes its shape how exactly, sitting in a bone socket? It's not very likely, and i haven't seen sufficient evidence that it can do that. The flexible part of the eye is after all a lens. However there doesn't appear to be a mechanism to tension the lens anisotropically to correct for astigmatism!

My eye balls shakes from side to side but was told it's astigmatism, what do i do?
@SianaGearz8 жыл бұрын
Oge Ogunbadejo I don't know, it shouldn't do that. I think it's Strabismus, not Astigmatism. But i imagine it's remotely possible that Astigmatism could be the cause of this too. For Astigmatism, they add a cylindrical curve to the prescription glasses, that's the right thing to do. For Strabismus, they add a prismatic wedge shape to the prescription. I don't have an opinion on whether it solves the issue or how. There's a difference, that Astigmatism is a physiological condition, that is easy to correct, while Strabismus is a muscle coordination issue, so no sure fire course of action exists. There are quick online and printout tests with which you can determine whether you have a significant degree of astigmatism, they may be called Astigmatism Chart or Astigmatism Mirror or somesuch. They consist of concentric lines. You start moving away from the chart, looking at it with one eye at a time, and then if you see vertical, diagonal or horizontal lines much better than others, then you probably have astigmatism. Online charts however are not suitable for diagnosis. They are also not precise enough to determine the angle of astigmatism and don't allow to determine the strength of astigmatism. Be wary, some pages use such century old tests to build reader trust, and then abuse this trust by peddling useless products. I am not a medical professional, so don't take medical advice from me. You should visit a qualified Doctor of Ophthalmology who can inspect you in person. You will not be able to resolve your issue by text conversation. The doctor will also perform measurements and try dozens of lenses to determine the correct values for correction glasses.

You are a doctor yet you forgot another way to correct astigmatism and basically told your audience that that if they have lenticular astigmatism you cant have it fixed yet the most common surgery done can correct a lenticular astigmatism with a Toric IOL. Is this because you don't know how to do it so you pretend it doesn't exist or is there some other reason to misinform your audience.
