I remember my dad bought season's tickets for the Oshawa Generals' games in 1989. They had just acquired a 16 year-old kid named Eric Lindros. He was a target for opposing teams, initially, but as he proceeded to destroy player after player in hits and fights, word got around quickly. A superstar in-the-making who didn't need others to protect him. My favourite player of all-time, he wasn't destined for a long NHL career with his style of play. But, man, the physical dominance was unreal. Cheers.

Aaron Kohn No, we will not. Once in a human history type of a player. He was blessed with more talent than Wayne Gretzky, let alone anyone else. Eric easily matched Gretzky in those elements of the game that made Gretzky put up the most points in history of the NHL. Yet, Gretzky could only dream of the unprecedented elements of versatility that Eric was able to make the part of his game as a power forward, which are elements that will have been and will have remained above and beyond any other hockey player's abilities.

Stevens gets the blame for ruining his career, but that point he was already out a year with a concussion from Kasperitis. That probably would have ended most careers now that we understand CTE better. Lindros had about 6 "concussions" at that point. In reality he probably had 30+. I'm sure he gave himself some mild concussions over the years with some of those hits he laid.

В 90-е по НТВ+ (с интернетом в России было никак в то время) я с открытым ртом смотрел на Линдроса. Когда увидел впервые -был в шоке. Подобного хоккеиста не было никогда и наверное уже не будет. Такое впечатление было, что он играл с детьми на льду! В 90-е от его игры можно было сойти с ума! Скорость, мощь, бросок, великолепное катание, куча шикарных пасов за матч, силовых приемов....стиль выигрывания вбрасываний...Две восьмерки на 194-сантиметровом качке, набирающем почти по 2 очка в каждом матче... 238 фунтов...Во всех печатных изданиях России только про него и писали. Более доминируещего игрока я никогда не видел.... Этот хоккеист стал для меня - тогда 14-летнего пацана -настоящим кумиром покруче Ван-дама, Сталлоне и Шварцнеггера. И на хер не нужны ему кубки Стэнли, Зал славы и пр. хрень-это для великих Грецки, Кросби, Лемье, Ягра достижения, чтобы их не забыли.... Линдрос-это непросто игрок, Линдрос -это эпоха. THE ONE ever. Every fan of Eric Lindros thanks you for this tribute. I often look back and realize just how selfish I was. Eric would get hurt or get a concussion and I would be upset because he wasn't playing. In retrospect, I guess it would have been better for everyone if he had taken the right time to come back instead of wanting to satisfy fans like me and go back to play much to early. The badest, meanest, biggest SOB to every play in the NHL. I have followed the Flyers since the Bobby Clarke era when I was a kid playing pee wee hockey. Being a diehard fan and watching Eric play was the highlight of my life. When he played I couldn't wait to get home every night to watch the game. Unbelievable talent and skill. He was the entire package. The guy had to fight different players every night!! The Flyers have not been the same since he departed and they never will be. Thanks for the awesome memories Eric.

Hello, I Pens fan from Eastern Europe. Lindros - excellent hockey player. He be able to play tough, and he played so. But, he played hard and clean, he not send people to hospital. It big difference to play hard or to broke people. Sad , what players like Kasparaitis, Stevens and other nasty guys played dirty, and many great hockey players be injured by them, including Eric Lindros too. This is great, brings back so many memories of being a teenager and watching Lindros dominate every aspect of the game. When he was healthy, there was nobody better. He brought a blend of size, speed, skill, and toughness that was never before seen and hasn't happened since. If injuries didn't plague his career, the Flyers undoubtedly would have won a Cup, and who knows what kind of numbers he would have posted.

It's a joke that Lindros isn't in the HOF already and is still waiting, as for the game yeah I miss the fighting and the overall badass mentality we used to get, but at the same time I actually think the game is smoother and faster than ever today, I don't miss the red line shit and the goofy two line passing, and I think it's much safer too, too many guys getting destroyed by headshots and it being legal.

Erica Martinen Doesn't have the stats?? Lindros had 865 points in 760 Career games was a Hart trophy winner in 1994, 6 time NHL all Star among other awards. Now let's compare that to Forsberg a guy that got in first crack this year. Forsberg had 885 points in 708 career games, was a hart trophy winner once just like Eric, 5 time All star, Calder trophy winner. If Forsberg is in then so should Eric.

Maniac With Mop Yeah I looked up Gillies' numbers and he had a really good career and was a winner but nothing spectacular either, so yeah if someone like Gillies is in the HOF is a joke with a guy with as an amazing statistical career as Lindros still waiting for a call even with how short his career was due to injury, however it did take Gilles several tries to get in, I think Eric has a good shot at getting in next year but we'll see.

Lisa Moreno I’m all for player safety, but it’s just so different these days. I think we play too conservatively and need to just go out there and go after the other team. It’s more about defense and the team just doesn’t have that many big, physical players now. But if we’re getting wins and 2nd in the division with playoffs, I’m all for however they play lol. Used to be Flyers and playoffs were almost a given. I know they’ve always come up short, mainly due to goaltending, but nowadays playoffs are who knows. Vigneault has done a great job as coach this year, hope we can do some damage when the playoffs do happen.

Avid hockey fan since 1973. Lindros was the most talented, the most fun to watch. The clutch and grab systems, illegal for the first 100 years of hockey, became commonplace and were designed to protect teams from Lindros. Shortly after his demise, obstruction interference was re-implemented. Not an irony, a conscious decision by the NHL brass. He was a marked man as the Flyers have been a marked team.

The refs just did not call those as much and they let a lot of that go, granted at some points teh calls where made but alllowing obstruction in the form of hits away from the puck, clutch grab etc was around and used for years thats what led to all the brawls. I know I played high level through the 80s and it was on all levels growing up pee wees bantams midget etc etc

The types that were let go were the less flagrant fouls, the type of interfering that lasted half a second, considered incidental, and not all the time. Referees could be very strict. The types of interference and blatant holding that became the calling card of the n.j. Devils and others to follow was much more extreme and would have been penalized in 70's, the brawl era. The devils would grab and hold up a player 20/30 feet from the puck, and not for a flash like in earlier times but for the duration the player was forechecking. Now everyone can have an opinion, mine yours, they do not matter much. What I experienced and what you experienced playing or viewing are somehow different. Doesn't matter. The rules WERE changed. "Clutch and grab" was different than earlier times. Thats why it was defined as such. The goals per game dropped by nearly a full goal per game during the 1994-2006 seasons because of it. Fact. Forcing the league which was losing interest because of slow, sluggish play and low scoring to institute The goalie area, trapezoid behind the nets, where he could field the puck, and strict enforcement of holding and Interference, both reinstated to original intention after the lockout. This gave rise to smaller, faster teams effectiveness ie. The blackhawks teams. Over time the league found the game was getting ridiculous with the constant parade to the penalty box for minor penalties, and softened its stance on holding and interference, but NEVER, back to "Clutch and grab" levels prior. These are facts. I do not care who or what you blame it on or whether you believe it happened at all. Doesn't matter. The "Clutch and Grab" era is recognized by all. Irrefutable. It is generally dated between the years 1994 and 2006. It is always mentioned in conjunction with the N.J. Devils and their championship team. Facts. Lindros was viewed as a malcontent and the league promoted illegal tactics( Clutch and grab) during his tenure. Facts. They did away with said tactics as Lindros' career ended. Fact. That's more than enough evidence for me, whether or not you believe it doesn't matter. I too was there, and I too played and witnessed what happened. I'm not going to attempt to rewrite history, revisionist style, because of a disdain for Lindros. That's obviously why you came here. Again, doesn't matter. He's still the best I ever saw despite the hatred and dishonest play that effected his career.

His controversy was really uncomfortable for the NHL as it never to deal with "divaism" before. In the other big 3 its not uncommon to have a representative dictate where they want their client to play. At first glance one could make the argument of similarity with him and cam but Eric was Eric from day where it took Cam about 4yrs to be the player he was and even that was a short window. Both players physical styles contributed to the shortened productive years. Eric had an 8yr run that will never be duplicated in hockey again.

Became a fan of Lindros as soon as he entered the league and when the North Stars moved to Dallas at the end of that 92-93 season, I became a Flyers die-hard. I don't care what anyone says, he was one of the baddest, meanest guys on the ice who also had incredible skills. One of the most dominant players to ever lace em up. The irony of these vids show Eric playing with his head up, and repeatedly crushing people trying to late him/cheapshot him. The Stevens hit was, a planned play, and should have been an ejection of the coach. They let a guy(Leclair) that just score 300 goals in the past 5 years skate in alone, with second highest scorer of the 90s skating alone to his left in Recchi. They were willing to allow an obviously 2 on 0 to purposefully hurt Lindros.

Just like all sports rules have generally changed you can't call something dirty that was allowed in the time frame it was when it was allowed. The people that hate Lindros he problly laid out half there team. Every team in sports should have a player like that there one in a million. Not only could he out skate you out wit you out maneuver you he could lay anyone out on there best day. Watching that video brought back a ton of great memories my father is the flyer fan and i'm the ranger fan but man did i love that philly squad so exciting to watch. I do hope both the flyers and rangers retire his jersey just out of respect and if the flyers don't they need to check there brains out for memory loss as well, what he brought to that town for years was inspiring.

As kids we were obviously Lindros fans, collected his hockey cards too. Was also a huge John LeClair fan and I played hockey with #10 on the back of my jersey just like him, even though I was playing D. Watching this compilation now in my forties I have to admit Lindros had all those concussions ending his career coming to his way from the get go. He lived by the sword and died by the sword I guess. PS. Legion of Doom was massive in the 90's

Unfairly labeled as a choker because he never won the Stanley Cup, but looking at these clips of crappy goalies and team mates, it's clear that he never had a chance. Stevens and Lindros appeared on ESPN together just two days before the 2015 All Star game and Lindros was asked what he thought about OV. Lindros responded "I like turtles"! Stevens then asked Lindros what he thinks of Claude Geroux and Lindros responded "thanks a lot, I got a fucking migraine"! I felt bad for Lindros but a second later I was hoping he would get hit by a bus.
