Very nicely done Lindsay. For visibility I’ll half hitch and trim the butt ends then add a couple strands small flash or fluoro fibers to the top, fold back and wrap down. Trim to half the elk hair and then finish the fly. That just gives me a little something extra to see on smaller flies. As long as they are on top, the fish never sees it. I hate always adding suggestions, but you are sharing good information and I like sharing additional tips I’ve learned. Hopefully I’ll do some videos next years. Cheers.

Jeff I always feel weird making suggestions as well, but if we were sitting at the table altogether, we would have these same discussions. I know I cringe when I add suggestions but I have yet to meet anyone who takes offense and Lindsay is most gracious.

Well, that is an interesting varation. You could, I do it myself once I set the wing I tie in a clump of CDC in FL- orange then finish the fly. I have also been known to put an indicator on the last knot on my leader that way I know if I lose sight of the fly I look down the leader to the indicator and know that the fly is within how many feet of tippet I have. Getting old too.

George, I often add sighters to my dries I can just locate them quickly on the water. Never thought of adding an indicator knot to the leader though. Might give that a go.

Do you think that has any advantage over a pattern ribbed with that material? I guess with tiny flies it is easier than trying to put a super thin rib on it. Food for thought, something I can add when I'm tying to try it out. I like that fine wire rib! Glad you like the elk!

Hi Kerry, thanks for taking the time to send it pal. I think ribbing would probably be easier than how I have done it.

Nice to see a traditional version, I've not used it myself - but have you tried the CDC and Elk? I've been considering getting some CDC and trying some of the CDC patterns, I'm not 100% convinced its a miracle material ...

Some folks like it pal others prefer Deer hair, I am happy with both.

Nice again . Do you ever trim hackle on top, to allow wing to sit lower? Or does it matter?
@lindsayiflyfish3 жыл бұрын
Not tried that but it makes perfect sense, will give it a go.
