In today's video (it's a short one!), we'll examine the difference between cursive and calligraphy. There are four main differences:
1. Cursive is about writing efficiently (you rarely pick up your pen), while calligraphy is ... well, hardly efficient!
2. Cursive is generally quite simple -- again, it's about writing quickly and efficiently. In contrast, calligraphy is usually detailed and ornate.
3. Cursive letters always connect to each other. Calligraphy, however, doesn't have to connect. There are broad-nib calligraphy styles (like uncial script) that don't connect at all!
4. Calligraphy is a discipline, while cursive is a skill. Cursive is usually associated with everyday handwriting. Calligraphy is generally more embellished, so it’s reserved for special projects, like wedding envelopes.
