Playing violin is not that easy. You need to have a true enthusiasm for it and a creative mind. I have been learning to play violin since 2014 but I am yet to create good melodies. Every time I listen to Lindsey's tracks, I feel how amazingly good she is!

Everytime I watch this I catch more and more details. I absolutely love how it goes from the ballerina being content only to see something beautiful and tries, too early, too soon, and in the wrong way, to get there. And how she wakes up the second time, the way her head shakes like she's not ready. And the bat showing it might be scary out here, but as the butterfly, shows it's still beautiful despite the fear. How the ballerina uses her own strength (the violin) to escape, despite how it appears the cracking in her skin is painful and terrifying. How her stance changes from the static perfect pose to something more dynamic. The moment she hesitates, hand to her cheek, as if she thinks she can go back to the safety that is killing her... And deciding to shatter instead, showing a less than perfect person underneath but free. Dancing as she wants to. And finally seeing the outside world as it is

I just saw Lindsey in concert and it was INCREDIBLE. There's actually such a deep story behind this: Lindsey struggled with body image and anorexia for years... She constantly was trying to be perfect and was killing herself inside but tried to appear content (the porcelain ballerina). She realized that perfection was suffocating her and she'd have to break out, even if it meant cracking through years of work for perfection, in order to be happy and free.(:

I started playing the violin a year ago. I had been wanting to start playing ever since I first heard this song. The violin wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, and I struggled with many things (such as getting my bow straight, intonation, timing, and many other things), but I didn’t want to quit. I kept listening to Lindsey Stirling’s songs to give me motivation, so that I wouldn’t even think about stopping. The only way people can achieve great things is if they work for it. Currently, I am in the Honors Orchestra at my school. That is the highest orchestra you can be in- and just as I thought when I first started- it wasn’t going to be easy. Just two months ago, I was really having a hard time with orchestra. My grade was lowering, and I didn’t even feel like playing. The transition between beginner orchestra and Honors orchestra was a HUGE ONE. I felt like I was lower than the rest of my classmates because they had more playing experience than I did. ...then I found this song again. After listening to this, I felt that spark of motivation I had when I started. I knew I had to push myself and go past my limits to be like everyone else. I know that this sounds like a pretty fake story, but it’s 100% real. In a month, my orchestra is going to head to a few other schools to play. Either way, I really enjoy this song and it left a huge impact on my heart. Thank you, Lindsey! ❤️

Lindsey Stirling was six years old when she began begging for violin lessons. She began getting 15 minute lessons, which no one thought she could learn from, but she mastered it. It was all their family could afford. Much longer later, she joined a rock band and began experimenting with different types of music, and began earning money for collage by performing. Later, she performed in America's Got Talent, but didn't do very well. But she wouldn't give up. Then, Lindsey was introduced to Devin Graham, who kick-stared her career. Lindsey quoted, ''He changed my life. He taught me everything I needed to know about KZbin.'' It was a while later when Lindsey realized that she was suffering from anorexia, an eating disorder, sometimes very deadly. She noticed that something was wrong with her, and she was becoming very depressed. Finally, she found help and recovered from it. This video is about her suffering of anorexia, and how she had to turn back from her life of being a perfect ballerina. It was hard and scary, but she finally broke through the glass by doing what she loved to do: Playing violin. And on the other side of that glass that she had suffocated her self in for too long, she found what she had been looking for. A whole new world. She finally found happiness. Cheers to you, Lindsey. If you really read through all of that, thanks. Wow this is a long comment.

I love this song and music video. It beautifully illustrates the concept of suffering with a mental health disorder. (Trigger Warning: mention of suicide, self harm and eating disorder). I really can relate to this. I know Lindsay Sterling wrote this to describe her eating disorder and eventual recovery, and I can definitely see this with my anxiety and past self harm and suicidal ideations. A couple of years ago, I didn’t want to get better or improve. I thought things would get worse if I stopped cutting myself. But now that I’m recovering and over a year clean, I can safely say that stopping and getting help was probably one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I have almost broken the glass and am ready to live a life worth living. While in recovery, I was/ am afraid of changing. I can definitely relate to the lyric, “if I break the glass then now I have to fly. There’s no one to catch me if I take a dive. I’m scared of change and the days stay the same.” That’s how I feel when learning to let go of my anxiety and fears.

people who say treatment, counseling, talking about it overall getting help doesn't work has probably never been truly in that situation. Yes having the WANT within is the foremost important step but it's not sumthing you can really do alone, at least not of you have been suffering for a while. Plz get help you may need. it will HELP. it won't fix everything on its own but it's a very important step. my heart goes out to anyone who is battling a war within themselves. I know what is like. it's a life long battle but it will get easier overtime significantly. I can always give advice if you need it. bc having someone to talk to, to know you are not alone in this, helps with your mood/self esteem offers a lil reassurance, maybe motivation. I'm not very religious. I know prayer alone won't help. you cannot assume someone will fix it all for you. clearly it's not that easy. you need to have a part In it . if it helps I believe in you. ❣

This has got to be one of my top favorite songs by Lindsey, if not THE top. And Lzzy is freaking insanely amazing with her vocals... Always. Her range is mind-blowing just in this piece alone. But the grit and push when she sings "Shatter me" & then again in the bridge gives me goosebumps every single time I put this song on... Which is a lot. These two need to do some more collabs bc they compliment one another so perfectly.

100% with you on the compliments. This song has long been a favorite for my kids and me and my sister and her kids discovered it independently. It's just amazing. That said, not sure they should regularly collab--part of Lindsey's talent and artistic integrity is developing her works organically from start to finish. Yeah, she uses her contacts, but it's about what fits the piece. I trust that if she develops another track that's good for Lzzy's vocals, Lindsey would make the right call.

Metal is normally a lot faster, based on the category. Like Death Metal, Black Metal, Symphonic Metal. Others are a bit slower, but still Metal, like Love Metal. Examples of these catergories are Cannibal Corpse(Death Metal), Cradle of Filth(Black Metal), Within Temptation(Symphonic Metal), and HIM(Love Metal. I really freaking love the symbolism in this video. I don’t know if this is the main intention, but the way I see it is that the ballerina represents someone who is in an abusive or unhealthy situation. She desperately wants to be free, but the glass is keeping her in; she knows breaking it will set her free, but has also been convinced that it will keep her safe, so she stays. When she sees the bat, I believe she’s realizing how this situation has affected her perception of the outside world. And at the end she finally does break free, which takes a lot of courage, because sometimes it’s easier to stay in what you know, even when you know it is unhealthy. Idk why I felt like commenting this lol

I don't know if this is intentional (I expect it is), but the imagery of her in the snow globe is surprisingly good representation of suffering from clinical depression. The globe turns beauty into darkness, butterflies into bats. In real life, fighting depression often means facing what hurts, like Lindsey having to play the song even though the cracks started showing on her. I want people who don't understand this condition to watch this video.

Lyrics I pirouette in the dark I see the stars through me Tired mechanical heart Beats til the song disappearsSomebody shine a light I'm frozen by the fear in me Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me So cut me from the line Dizzy, spinning endlessly Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me!Shatter me! Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me!If only the clockworks could speak I wouldn't be so alone We burn every magnet and spring And spiral into the unknownSomebody shine a light I'm frozen by the fear in me Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me So cut me from the line Dizzy, spinning endlessly Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me!Shatter me! Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me!If I break the glass, then I'll have to fly There's no one to catch me if I take a dive I'm scared of changing, the days stay the same The world is spinning but only in gray If I break the glass, then I'll have to fly There's no one to catch me if I take a dive I'm scared of changing, the days stay the same The world is spinning but only in gray (Only)Somebody shine a light I'm frozen by the fear in me Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me So cut me from the line Dizzy, spinning endlessly Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me! Shatter me! Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me!

No she says "somebody make me feel alive than shatter me. Saying she wants someone to make her feel wanted rather than being told she isn't worth anything. The song is like a cry for help

Still breaking out of glass ceiling thought patterns from my upbringing.. Some abuse is more insidious simply because of it's subtlety. I love the part where the butterfly goes past and then you realize that it's actually a bat. I feel like there are subtle forms of abuse of religion or abuse of parental power that can create such confusion. When you look at it in one moment you think it's lovely and beautiful and then as you stare at it longer you realize that it's not, that it's an illusion created to keep you quiet. And then she goes up to punch and crack the glass and stops herself. I really relate to that because anytime I try to break out of some of that fear (i.e. fear of God, fear of love withdrawal) I feel afraid that I'm bad and giving in to anger and that it's not true and that I need to believe the lovely perfectionistic ideas. Then I feel depressed because I know that I'm suppressing the truth and that I actually feel trapped. It is a difficult task to shatter the denial and coping patterns built in childhood to protect you when you were defenseless. As an adult you can break free but it means getting in touch with what was too painful to face as a child. Subtle abuse, not letting you have a voice as a child, it brings up such frightening feelings of rage and pain! We want to stay in the bubble at first... But trusting you can still survive outside is the truth. Breaking free.. One hit, one conscious act, one shifted paradigm at a time.... It's a process.

+LadyLullaby INFJ First off, well said. It's a common theme in Anime but not really brought into the mainstream of western media, and when it is it's usually misinterpreted or un-recognised. It is as you say the subtle abuse that gets overlooked and often lacking understanding. Tbh, and I'm not 100% as to why but this song always reminds me of Aigis from Persona 3. I know I'm trailing off but wanted to say well said. Edit; said eastern when meant western

+Stuart Haram Ok you mention subtle abuse, now what if is self abuse, that happens ,let's say a millennia would that make if hard to break out of the repetiveness of self abuse, thus trying to shatter the past and living with regrets? Many of our problems and or situations can be of our own making,or design

It’s amazing how the video shows that in the end, Lindsey didn’t need someone to shatter her, but she needed her own strength to shatter herself out of that bubble and finally got to experience being in the light all on her own. If you’re going through a tough situation in life right now, just let this be a reminder that the most important person in your life is yourself. Motivation from other people won’t matter unless you are willing to make the change yourself and shatter open your own bubble. Much love. ✌️

One thing I didn't know for years after listening to this song, it's about anorexia. At some point, Lindsay fell victim to anorexia and lived to tell the tale through this beautiful song. The video really shows it and it's an insanely powerful song.

Anorexia is one disorder I don't have, and I'm glad I don't have it! I do have depression, though. :(
@wagnermh12025 жыл бұрын
Kitten Kat nowadays is almost impossible for someone to NOT have depression. Our societies are sick and we, as part of it, get sick too. For us to be well, despite everything we see and hear every day, we have to be deeply connected with higher sources (God, energies or whatever you want to call it). Also, the depression is connected to something that happened on your past. You must learn to let it go. Anxiety is connected to the future, of what has yet to come. Stay focused on today, live today, be today. Be well. God bless you.

I love this song so much. To me, it's an anthem to remind us that we need to step outside our comfort zones to feel the exhilaration of new experiences. If we don't, we may remain "safe", but our world just keeps spinning in gray (no excitement). Thanks, Lindsey and Lzzy!

Ok, I'm going to put my entire opinion on this video. First, we can see a butterfly flying outside of the glass. Now butterflies usually symbolize rebirth and freedom, so for the butterfly to be outside, it could represent how the ballerina (We'll call her Belle) feels trap. Belle feels trap, since she's inside the glass, while the butterfly is outside. And it is this butterfly that helped her break free. 2nd, when the glass started breaking, she started shattering as well. Now to me, I see this as symbolic of how Belle is starting to break free from what was keeping her trapped, with the glass breaking representing how she finally finds the courage to break free, and her skin shattering representing how she's finally setting herself free after earning the courage. 3rd, now this song is of course known for the lyrics and it's title "Shatter me", so the lyrics "Somebody made me feel alive than shatter me." now, many would assume it means Belle got betrayed. But to me, I think the person that 'shattered' her is the butterfly, what I'm trying to say, is what if she meant "shatter me" as in "shattering the glass that is trapping me" the butterfly representing that person that had given her the courage to shatter the glass.
