I spent a week in Shenyang in 2012 and had a wonderful time. While visiting the large city center park several of the residents approached me and just wanted to practice their English skills. They told me they don't see many Americans and were very kind and asked a lot of questions. I remember the huge monument of Mao and the people doing various activities playing with laser lights, group exercises, and just conversing with friends. The city itself had bad air pollution so you couldn't see the sun but when I visited places a few miles outside the city the air was clear. This was in September and the evenings were cool so you needed a jacket. Shenyang is a large city of about 6 million and is about an hour flight from Beijing in the NE part of China. Thanks for sharing your video. It brought back nice memories of my one visit there👍...James, USA

My bf and I are both German and we have been to China 2 times (Shenzhen, Shanghai, Suzhou, Hong Kong and Beijing) and I really have to proof your point that China is not very foreigner friendly. I study Sinology and if I wasn't able to speak Mandarin, my bf and I would have been lost in China 😂 But I must say, we both miss China already.😢 We just love the Food (even though I am vegetarian), the people and the culture. People even almost daily wanted to take selfies with us and were in general very friendly to us! Also, the public transportation is sooooo convenient!

i totally agree with the not foreigner friendly situation, like i swear they used to be but gov policies and all that made a lot of cities change... :((( on a positive note: if ur introverted or don't know chinese, u usually don't have to speak to a real person to order! every place has qr codes for mobile order and that's what most people use to place their orders.

what u talking about, do u expect a small boba shop in China to provide u english menu and serve u in english?
@islamae295 ай бұрын
@@peng7712 No I don't, that would be insane to expect for local small businesses. But some of the places Lindsiann went to were large corporations like Luckin and Modern Tea. There is absolutely no way they have never considered foreigners going to their stores, esp since both those shops have chains outside of China. Also just smaller things such as street signs and directions, China has implemented new policies to remove the English in a lot of tourist areas and change it to pinyin. I've seen a lot of foreigners struggle to navigate (mind you google doesn't work in China which makes it even harder). And let's not forget Chongqing is one of China's biggest tourist spots. Even for more local chains and shops, I think they def should be held to a diff standard than your average run of the mill local business. Anywho, China used to be sososo foreign friendly. But after recent policies, particularly during the covid era, foreign friendly implementations have been removed. Thus pushing a bigger attraction to other asian countries like Japan and S.Korea. There's actually a lot of articles written about this phenomenon, in chinese and english, I recommend you look into it.
@nataliewebster63555 ай бұрын
Let's not make it all about policies. As a local who lived there for 20 years, Chongqing is not well developed like some coastal cities including Shanghai, Shenzhen and only becomes "international" recently.

But I believe the city gov is working on it. And if you hear about the current viral show in China "SINGER 2024", you wouldn't say the things you said. It's a live streaming singing competition. Singers like Adam Lambert, Chante Moore, Faouzia and Charlie Puth are basically beating Chinese singers every week because they are so good and so popular among the Chinese audience😅 Anyway, love from China.❤

hi I think there is a misunderstanding here. I do speak Chinese fluently I just don’t read or write very well.
