There is no country under the sun that brought 770 million people out of poverty - except China! I am from Singapore. In the 1970s, we had to ship old clothes and money to our relatives living in China - they were utterly poor. I witnessed the rise of China in my lifetime. Today, they are a giant on the world stage and I have deep respects for the Chinese people. They are very diligent and pragmatic. Sadly, I witnessed the decline of the West in my lifetime too.

Two things. 1. Yes hard work achieved this. But at terrible expense. Lots of suffering. And the evil system of communism. 2. The West helped. The west outsourced manufacturing to China, thinking the Chinese are only capable of copying and nothing else. This hubris contributed to Chinese advance because the west buys stuff in China, that is money going to China. China first copied the tech and now helps to make new tech. But we must not forget the Western buyers who are funding this.

The West has chosen its decline, so really no reason to be sorry. In Germany there was and is a witch hunt. Both people having a different opinion than the government are ousted from their jobs or even voluntary positions in church. Homeowners should pay 35,000+ USD for switch from gas burning to a maintenance intensive electro heating.

As a Russian, I am happy for China and of course they work hard. But let's be honest. The main thing here was that all Western corporations, in order to save money, transferred all their production facilities to China so that the Chinese would work for them for pennies. And the Chinese government has been condoning this for a long time. And it was the state program and propaganda that created such a situation that the Chinese work more than they live.

I spent nearly ten years living and working in Northern China, arriving back in the UK (Midlands) in 2019 for my pension. Truth be told, I still haven’t got over my initial culture shock on arriving back. I felt as though I’d arrived in the third world and politically in Alice in Wonderland! No country is perfect and the bureaucracy in China was on another level, but I miss those China days. Cheap, safe and although there must be crime and drugs, they weren’t visible on the streets and I still smile when I hear the media say the Chinese economy is collapsing. Coming from Hong Kong and having lived in UK for over 50 years I do see eye to eye with the author of this video. I do have doubt about democracy and am convinced it has some structural flaws especially against another governance like China. As an ethnic Chinese I could never understand why a democratic society prefers electing a leader by popularity instead of capability. UK prefers the ordinary citizens to select a leader but how good a leader is will be presented only by the media. Thus a party or wealthy people controlling the media are effectively controlling the election. I can still remember Tony Blair from Labour got into government by playing political spins using tricks arranged by a public relation company. I think the worst part is in order to show democracy there are always "alternatives" to everything including truth, community interest and even science. The labour and Tory are finding each other in exactly the same way the Americans Democrats fighting with the Republicans. There is no common ground. The party in power will try to undo everything the previous party has done. Time, resources and attention are wasted for the sake of toeing the party line. I don't think the Chinese governance is a system suitable for every country but in China the country is governed by people who have previously proven themselves in government first. China has so many people and will be pulled in all sort of directions if the country must suit everyone's opinion. Instead China adopts its own system which is based on community's interest first and the individual's right second. This in effect in Chinese adopt their own culture that has last for several thousands of years. I do not think there is a system that could fit all. Even with democracy UK runs a NHS system like a communist state that the US doesn't have anything similar. While the US gives freedom for everyone to bear fire arm and suffer the consequence. In UK not every policeman carries a gun. A governance must be continuously updated and adjusted to suit its population. Simply brand the Chinese system authoritarian and even evil will inhibit a democratic nation to modify its governance to use Chinese tools and models even if they show positive results. I suppose if China has not risen up and shown its spectacular development then UK and US may seem nothing wrong in the absence of any comparison.

About democracy, I think the key to democracy is that the government and the people have good communication and consultation, and that the basic goals and development ideas of national development are established through broad social consensus, rather than elections. For me, I am a social conservative. In foreign policy, I adhere to realism and use diplomacy to defend national interests, but I oppose foreign aggression. I defend peace through force, but not by force. I defend trade routes and partners from imperialist hegemony. Internal policy emphasizes big government, control of capital, social market economy, opposition to refugees, and opposition to white left. However, there is no discrimination against ethnic minorities who have joined the country's nationality. However, if someone commits a crime, they will be hit hard regardless of their ethnicity. Support rational environmental policies, support new energy transformation in line with national conditions, support industrial policies, require the government to strengthen investment in emerging productivity and emerging industries, strengthen infrastructure investment, and public education, and the establishment of a complete and low-cost medical insurance system (not free medical care). Support social security, but oppose white left-style high welfare. Specifically, it is to ensure state control in the fields of energy, education, medical care, and infrastructure construction. The government subsidizes emerging industries, but encourages market competition. Opposes false freedom of speech that talks about political slogans. Supports rational policy discussions based on facts and seeks truth from facts.

I would say that China's party system is more similar to the parliamentary system in the West. The Communist Party and several progressive democratic parties cooperate to establish a coalition government. Unlike the West, the Communist Party of China has assumed the historical responsibility of organizing and implementing policies and building the country. The difference between China and the West is that unlike the West, China does not hold general elections, but formulates a five-year plan for national development through the National People's Congress and entrusts it to a professional government to implement and promote China's industrial development and construction. The prime minister of the government is elected by the National People's Congress. However, both the National People's Congress and the government are guided by the socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics and the leadership of the Party to carry out national construction.

to me, the main reason uk is on the decline is that it doesn't have an independent foreign policy, just at the beck and call of usa. in fact china is the only country that can give substantial help in terms of economic development, infrastructure improvement and industrial upgrading after brexit . uk dismantled the communication facilities by huawei wasting loads of money just cuz usa asked it to on the pretext of endangering its national security, an ungrounded accusation, thus uk's 4g and 5g communication is way behind other developed countries. america thwarted quite a number of cooperation projects between china and uk, namely helping uk build hsrs and nuclear power plant that can stand magnitude 10 quake with china's cutting edge tech which can utilize more than 90 percent of its energy, and acquisition of uk's bust factories, all on the pretext of endangering uk's national security, which is an american lie. another thing is to stop gas and oil import from russia , so uk has to import gas and oil from usa at prices several times higher than normal price causing inflation in other areas. usa is the greatest beneficiary while the european countries are the victims of russia-ukrane war.

Although there is Chinese investment all over the UK, The UK should not really have it's primary communications network literally run by a Chinese company. It could pose a security threat or put the UK rather in an awkward position. The problem with the UK is it's infrastructure building regulations, these are now, like the USA, quite restrictive. Planning and approval consultations at so many levels, environmental legal challenges, land purchasing / allocation issues etc etc , whereas the CCP being authoritarian and owners of all the land have a top-down approach which can bypass many of the public consultation and regulatory hurdles seen in the UK. i.e they do as they like and no-one complains. Which hasn't been a bad thing in terms of development. As for the US relationship it is historic and will bear fruit in the future. China appears not to like or trust the Uk and vice versa. Look at their Australia argument a few years ago.

But any foreign nation should not really be in charge of building the infrastructure in my opinion. Either way, if there is any eavesdropping, China will simply deny it. Now, with China being a stronger economic and military nation, what could the UK do?? Nothing! At least with the US there is the history of being allies. The underground was clean and efficient, the buildings were impressive, the streets felt safe, there was no graffiti and hardly any litter. At night, when it got dark, people of all ages would be in parks, sitting on benches, walking, practising tai chi. Compare that to a city centre in Britain at night - drunks would be staggering about, there'd be fighting, yelling, police sirens, and only an idiot would think it was a good idea to go and sit in a park. Sure, I got only a snapshot of China, but what I saw was impressive.

I even came back for work in 22. Six months was enough, now I'm back abroad. What Blair started in 97 and the so called conservatives carried on with has destroyed the country of my birth. I've seen second world countries overtake the UK in just about everthing that affects the quality of life. It really is betrayal by the political class to the UK people.

You overlook that China is continually threatening Taiwan, making claims of most of the South China Sea (including within the economic zones of many of its neighbours), imprisoning Wiguars, border clashes with India, salami slicing territory of its neighbours etc. The list goes on. While a benevolent dictator is arguably the most efficient form of government, regrettably they are few and far between

I'm raised in the UK, and haven't travelled much. I looked up a YT video for one of those silent "walking" videos where it's literally someone walking around one of China's cities - Chengdu - and was absolutely SHOCKED at the architecture of the place. The streets and city seemed to be endless. So modernised and dare I say the night view is like something out of a sci fi movie. I come from a small town and it feels like they're living in 2040 and the UK is stuck in 2019. Even London, a giant city in my eyes, can't compare anymore. @@ricotheman8139- Seriously, those so called "countries" are really backward undeveloped sh*tholes. Being from the 3rd world county, we’ve got to admit the reality. Let’s not romanticize these countries as anything but. They’re never been shining beacon decency and civility. All of them are constantly fighting small kingdoms, fighting for scraps, with the majority of the population are nothing but slaves or worse to the ruling nobility. How do you think the British were able to conquer India or Africa. Not by sending their army. No. They find a compliant ruler or raja, then they support him with wealth and weapons, then that Maharaja and his local native soldiers would invade the other Rajas to side with the British. In return the new colony get modernized with new hospitals, schools and trains and all it’s medieval antics like slavery or caste systems are abolished. Look at Congo nowadays. Yes, the era of King Leopold II was harsh and brutal. But look now the country has reverted back to the stone-ages. All great building, hospitals are now in ruins. Their train system is now a wreck. Dead and suffering went sky-high. They replaced one white tyrant to a black tyrant who’s totally incompetent. There 4 kinds of Freedom that must be upheld, that is universally agreed upon. Freedom of Expression, of Worship, From Want and From Fear. There’s something wrong with your country if one of these are not met.

On my first visit to China in 1985, I saw bicycles all over Beijing. Imagine it was bicycle jams everywhere in the morning and evening! There were no private cars because the people were just too poor. There were a few Volkswagen Santana used as taxi which the locals couldn't afford. Today, the best and most expensive European and American cars are found all over China. The western countries, especially the US, are lying in their reports on China. There are so much negative reports on China. The US has so many homeless people living in the streets now. I did not see any homeless living on the streets of China. I was so impressed with the US on my first visit to San Francisco. China is painted as a threat because it has progressed so much and the west is falling behind. The GDP of China will overtake that of the US by 2030 because it has a good government and a very hard-working population. China still holds more than US$700 billions of US Treasuries and are selling them as soon as they mature. At its peak, China had close to US$2 TRILLIONS of those Treasuries. Why is China selling those Treasuries? They saw what happened to the Russian assets in US and Europe. Very few countries outside US and Europe trust them anymore after the Russian monetary assets were frozen and they have just decided to use the interest from those assets to fund the war in Ukraine. The debt to GDP of the US is more than 120% and no country had recovered from that kind of debt level. Trillions of dollars were thrown away on STUPID WARS!

Your observation is consistent with the vast majority of westerners. A similar trend is observed in the US/Canada and throughout western allied nations. The endless QE does not improve the situation either as the hegemon exports inflation around the globe in an effort to tame their economic woes. Economic prosperity is clearly shifting towards the East now with global south nations expected to undergo further development if they continue to establish cooperation and trade through the BRI. Poor economic conditions and political instability are often accompanied by drastic decline in the living standards, rise in poverty and crime as wealth is concentrated within a small group of social elites.

9:00 Of course, there are homeless people in China too, and it was common to see them in the past. However, the Chinese government has put in a lot of effort to build a system to help the homeless. This system helps the homeless return to their hometowns or find employment, and provides assistance to people with disabilities so they can live in relief facilities. As a result, there are no longer homeless people on the streets. Moreover, examples of such support systems can be found in historical records, indicating that China has always established these systems during times of prosperity. My sociology teacher taught me that a country's level of civilization is reflected in its concern for the vulnerable. It is undeniable that economic development and national strength provide the capacity to care for the less fortunate. However, many Western countries not only neglect the vulnerable but also seem to be less focused on their own development. Instead, they are more concerned with suppressing other countries that are progressing well.

Every time I return to the UK for a holiday, I am shocked to see it so massively overcrowded, the run down state of so many things, poverty and high prices everywhere you go, and of course very high crime rates. I don't recognise the place! Each trip costs me so much, high cost for poor standard hotels, food, trains, underground extremely expensive compared to Sydney, which we at times think is quite expensive BUT IS NOWHERE NEAR AS MUCH AS UK. Plus, we earn so much more. Yes, it's fallen from grace big time...so many problems, and an awful climate. No wonder so many people feel depressed in those long, dark, cold days of Winter, with poor opportunities and a bleak view of their futures. I would say that those of us who live somewhere else, and have something better to compare things to, obviously notice it more. We know other things, are living different lives; enjoying better things all round, like great food, climate, cost of living, superior accommodation, and owning our own car is so normal. Nothing wrong with any of that. No wonder so many are desperate to get out, to places Australia...1,300 UK Drs. this year alone. The West is in a "profit crisis" defined by Marx as a period of time when falling wages & rising prices mean people cannot afford to buy what is produced. Corporations react to this by inflating prices further as a quick short term fix - but increased profit per unit of production suffers diminishing returns. Eventually the economy is pushed into a depression, usually by debt.

British expat now living in Hong Kong. We moved here six years ago. Never looked back. It is safe, clean and we have a far higher quality of life here than in the UK. There have been so many attempts to smear Hong Kong and frankly misinformation from the mainstream media and Western politicians. China is also a massively misunderstood place. When we first arrived, I like many Brits have been conditioned to be apprehensive about crossing the border into the mainland. But after I did amd after a number of trips, meeting people and making friends, you soon realise it is utter BS. In many ways people here in HK are more free here than we are led to believe. People often forget this but at the very least during COVID the government's priority was to protect lives and as a result we lived relatively normal lives. We went to parks, beaches, shopping etc. This was so important because my wife was pregnant. Meanwhile my mum back in the UK was working in an elder care facility and was denied proper PPE, and hospitals kept sending infected patients back into these care homes like trojan horses because the official policy was to let the virus kill off the weak.

What you say about tech salaries is true. As CTO in London, with the responsibility of 60 people and a budget of almost 5 millions, I was making 160k a year, which is an entry salary for a senior software engineer in the worst US companies, and it's the salary of someone with 2 years of experience in a FAANG company, like Facebook or Google. And believe me, the situation now is much worse than 4 years ago. It is way harder to get a job. The rent is gone up between 20 and 30 percent just in the last year.

You can see the same decay and decline in many of the other European capitals. Michael Hudson remarked that the Collective West now has a 'rentier economy' (thanks neo-liberalism!) that extracts wealth through the FIRE sector (Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate), benefiting only a select few. Compare this to China and the Global South in general that creates new wealth by manufacturing, innovation and new infrastructure. Which seems to be benefiting the many. I've observed (by leaps and bounds) the relative and absolute decline of the economic heartland of Europe for some 50 years. This process is now visibly accelerating. The world has caught up with the Collective West and the odd 200 years of western global supremacy are over. Not that the US-led status quo is going to give up without a fight. Arguably the best thing that can happen to the Collective West is a rapid collapse - following that we can pick up the pieces and have a fresh start.

@ 11:50 , “The world is changing; it’s becoming multipolar,” said Harvey. Translation: the world order is reverting to a past era when the Middle Kingdom dominated global economic and financial activities whereas the United Kingdom was a fishing and shipping island; and much of Western Europe bickered and fought among themselves.

Man what a beautiful and honest video. I totally agree with you, since I've lived in Shanghai for 3 years (until the start of the pandemic) myself too. For me tho, I can't see myself living there because it's just so different. Yes it's MUCH cleaner, has WAY BETTER transportation, healthcare and everything... But I just don't feel comfortable. All the concrete, the lack of green parks (ones where you can actually go on the grass lol), the lack of constant fresh air, and the difference in culture is simply too much for me to live there. The food is brilliant too---but it's almost impossible to get the normal bread and cheese I eat back home in Germany. Those are the things that truly make the difference too me.

Around 300 meter from there is a small supermarket with a lot of German, Italian stuff (Brotaufstrich, Aufschnitte und deutschen Käse). The bread taste better than many bakeries here in Germany.

Why are there no homeless people in China: In China, land is publicly owned. Rural residents each have their own land, which cannot be bought or sold. If they cannot make a living in the city, they can return to the countryside to farm. The government can provide interest-free loans for agricultural materials. China has a strong sense of family. If someone encounters difficulties, their entire family will help them. China produces 80% of the world's goods, which means there are many job opportunities due to the abundance of factories.

Thank you for the enlightening video! The issues on crime, safety and poverty are indisputable. On the matter of cost of living, price is lower in China but so is the average salary. To compare more fairly, we have to somehow calculate the ratio of salary to living cost....

@agusedyanto3324 7 ай бұрын
I think a big salary is meaningless if inflation continues to rise, your salary is used up for living expenses. It's better if the salary isn't too high as long as inflation remains low and prices are still affordable and you can still save!

@nuo.not1033 7 ай бұрын
I can tell you the answer right now, the cost of living and income in China are very low, but there are many things that China needs to spend money on, which leads to longer working hours in China. If you are an ordinary salaryman, it is very difficult for you to work in China to adapt to the work-life balance, and there are too many competitors. If you are a person with a certain economic foundation, then you will have a great experience to travel or settle in China, if you have 600,000-700,000 dollars, you can go to China for retirement, usually the third and fourth tier cities are better than the first tier cities, provided that China and the United States have not broken the world.

More importantly, the health service of the UK is shockingly bad. People have been asked to see non medically trained people like chemists and car mechanics for health conditions. It also begs the question, do the UK not able to differentiate between non medically trained people like chemists and car mechanics from doctors? Why have the UK people come to this level? The level of education there must be awful if they have to ask chemists and car mechanics about health, can't they think for themselves?
