I just bought my Firehawk FX and this video is awesome. Explained how to deep dive into sounds I wasn’t even listening for until you addressed them. Seeing it done and how to apply setting was the most educational video I’ve seen. Love the sound you got out of it!

Thaaks so much Peter. Amazing stuff, Really helps many Firehawk users. It seems EQ is the key to all the great tones. Thats wy so many beginners/amateurs never get those great tones, as they normally dont have an EQ unit in their rig or dont know how to use it. Pros use EQ all the time. Wish you didnt have to give the Firehawk back so quickly. Wish you could have done 7-8 videos with it like you did for the HD500x. I cant wait to save these settings to my own FH FX. Your music on your CDs is amazing, Will be buying them ASAP. You are a tone master.

And THAT my friends is how you tweak a tone on a Line 6 device. All that fizzy harshness can be rather easily tamed just by using some careful and judicious EQ. By the way, I also frequently use the rack compressor to add sustain and back off on the gain a bit. Gives me an amazing high gain tone without cranking up the gain so much that the tone becomes fuzzy and indistinct.
@MarshallMusicSA7 жыл бұрын
Thanks MeTuLHeD, i'm using the Helix but I loved the Firehawk. I think it's got a bit of a bad rap due to the hype of the Helix.

I agree. The Firehawk is a perfect combination of some of the HD Series amp models with the older (but still great sounding) POD Farm/POD XT models. Could not live without the Spinal Puppet. :D

+Marshall Music SA No worries, thank you. I'm trying to pull out unwanted frequencies using the EQ, but it completely flattens the tone. I will keep working on it.

Does the noisegate get it's own assignable pedal switch? Or is it part of the chain but not assigned, meaning that you don't waste a foot switch on it. I noticed it didn't have a number on it which makes me think it's not assigned. Just wondering. Great video, thanks for telling people to crank up the mids. I love mids.

Once created a patch from the App, How do I save that patch to the pedal board?
@ghostburgers42843 жыл бұрын
From what I’ve heard you have to connect your Firehawk pedal to your computer with a usb cord and download it from their website.

You just have to press the patch switch for 3 seconds and do it again.

Hi Peter thank you for the fantastic video would you say the EQ nasal 3k tone in this video is similar for all digital modellers or for this particular amp and Mic combination? I'm trying to learn how to better EQ my tones
@MarshallMusicSA7 жыл бұрын
My pleasure Dave. The 3k frequency is a lot more exaggerated with the mic and speaker combination but it can be prevalent in a lot of distorted guitar tones. My only advice that I can give is to try removing frequencies that seem harsh. Remember to keep your "q" value quite high though or you'll take out too much.
@DavidMacVicar7 жыл бұрын
Hey! This is awesome thanks. However, with the Firehawk there is no "Q" setting in the same way as with the HD500... from what I gather with the Firehawk all you can do is boost the gain of each frequency, and then sweep through?
@MarshallMusicSA7 жыл бұрын
Yep, sorry I forgot. I haven't used the Firehawk since I made the videos. Yes, your best bet is to not remove too much at a time then. Even if you have to add to eqs one after the other to get what you're after instead of scooping a massive amount of a specific frequency. Bear in mind that guitars need mids to cut through mixes but make sure it's the correct sounding mids and not the shrill, nasal, harsh mids. Hope this helps. Cheers.

I am pretty confused about where you set the white knob (press the master to adjust guitar volume). Line 6 states its only for balancing the guitar with music streaming...but this is kind of a weak response because your guitar volume affects essentially ever patch you create. For consistency I figured it would be best to put the white vol knob at 50% in the dead center. However, with this setting and hooking my FHFX into my computer I would have to drop my amp channel volume sometimes down as low as 12-20% so that it wouldn't clip or go past -12DB on my DAW meter for the cleanest signal. Line 6 doesn't even give a recommendation of what the guitar input volume should be. Any insight here?
@MarshallMusicSA7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure either, Dave. I didn't play around with this setting but from what I understand you're saying that the "white" level affects your gtr's input volume to the Firehawk. Line 6 states that it's to balance the gtr and the music streaming. It shouldn't affect your gtr tone at all. It should just lower the overall volume. Where do have your overall output level set?
@rolandlemus2037 жыл бұрын
Here is what I have been told and used, and it works for my DAW Presonus recordings. After you set your tone selection, and you create your guitar track in your DAW, it will be overwhelming too loud on the direct USB connection. So, you just go to the main volume knob, push it down ONCE, it will turn white, turn it left to turn down the output volume to the DAW, that will get you a nice level, and adjust to your liking. After about a few minutes, the setting CAN be adjusted in the amp without impacting the DAW out volume, and you can turn the volume BACK up. It is VERY COOL. That way you can have a nice recording level and no clipping or distortion. I can now have clean or whatever effects at a great hearing level recorded nicely. I hope this works for you, I was pulling my hair out, the one thing they need for this amp is BETTER instructions, but I love my amp just love it.

I'm a huge Line 6 fan and play a JTV-69s with a Spider V 60. Both of these has a PC interface which is wonderful as all my playing is based around my PC then I bought the Firehawk FX... WTF!!! No PC interface! I thought it was reasonable to think it would fit into my loop but it doesn't. It is isolated and I don't even have an iPad. It's great that it connects to the Variax but terrible that I have to choose to connect to PC or FH. It became a paperweight once the novelty wore off.

I just got mine yesterday and have not messed with it much but it is really nice, I bought it with a 30 day return policy thinking that if I don't like it I will send it back. After about 10 minutes with it I figure I would not send it back. Peter, I am running it thru my blackstar HT-5 and was wondering two things, what should I do with the amp tone controls, put them all straight up at the 12:00 position? Also, can I use this with my Weber mini mass or is that kinda pointless? Thanks
@MarshallMusicSA7 жыл бұрын
Playing modelers into amps can be a minefield. It can be very easy to get a great tone or extremely difficult. Depends on the amp. So If you're able to get a great tone into your amp without playing with the amp's tone controls then that's a massive bonus. Don't be afraid to tweak the amps controls though. Use your ears - whatever sounds best is best. There are no rules to this. I've never used the Weber Mini Mass so I can't really comment on it.
@rdworthley7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I figured that would be the case. I have the treaplate and the plexi setting that you did on part 1 in my FH FX. Thanks Peter.

Four months in and my Line 6 Firehawk has become a paper weight. I'm soryy, but I have to sied with the Analog crowd if only because the volume leveling is massively inconsistent throughout the device, you cannot scroll through the effects seemlessly without major variations in volume. What's more--if you don't own an IPad, what's the point? The ap is far too complex to navigate poperly on a phone. Moreover, there has to be a easier way to scroll through the effects than runing up & down and across multiple banks. That said, these are issues I have always had with Line 6 I can't believe they haven't addressed them yet. I will not make the mistake of purchasing a Line 6 product again. Thankfully it only cost me 400 bucks that hopefully I can recoup most of that by selling the damn thing. All things consider, it's my opinion that all the video reviews on the Line 6 Firehawk have been doctored.
@PjhSA5 жыл бұрын
And why do you think that the people responsible for going to all the trouble of making these reviews would "doctor" them? There are far too many users out there who are perfectly happy with their Firehawks. If you are not able to get anything useful out of the unit maybe it could just be you?

Wow dude I mean nothing wrong with wanting to just use traditional amps and pedals. But damn they really made the app so stupidly user friendly that I think the problem is you haha. Also you can get great tones outta this fairly quickly just takes a little tweaking but thats literally the case with any tube amp that ive played too.
@cerclesvicieux4 жыл бұрын
@@zionrodman6409 Nevertheless I tanked it.Almost couldn't give it away then my local guitar dealer gave me fifty bucks for a four month old 400 dollar floor processor that is still sitting in their shop collecting dust. I was told by both them and Guitar Center that the resale value on thses things are impossilbe. I bet I can sell the Jim Dunlop analog pedals to replace it for far more than I even paid for it. That was my second expeirence wiht Line 6. Will never do it again. My other Line 6 amp is still sitting in my sister's garage, a paper weight. You can hardly find anyone to work on them. Ask your own dealer about it.

For rhythm tones turn your mids down. The Digitech RP1000 beats the hell out of the Line 6 HD500X. It's not even a close contest.
