There is so much to love about this amp. It can cover anything from blues to classic rock and clean tones. What this does that I don’t hear other models doing is it has a kind of reedy warbly sound that is similar to power-amp breakup that increases with the volume and gain. It even does Marshall better than the Placater to my ears. It is capable of so many different tones it seems like it’s two or three different amps. I am running it through a power cab plus in flat mode with the default 1x12 cab that is used when selecting amp and cab when creating a new preset and that 1x12 sounds fantastic. By far my fav. Model now.

Nice - Thanks for this video, good coverage of the Dumble. Maybe Helix will communicate with Workbench HD again after this update. The last update (3.5) eliminated it and that was one of the best features of the Helix/Variax combo. So much is lost when those two can't be used together. I really miss it. (yes I did contact line 6 multiple times - end result was pretty much --- "sorry about your luck, it is your problem now"). The new effects/amps and IR style cabs are so good I'm doing without the Variax/WB interface instead of going back to the version that last worked.
@ChadHuskey Жыл бұрын
That's very strange, I've never had any issues with workbench and Variax communicating in any firmware since they added it. The only time I had issues it had to do with the Helix driver getting messed up some how. Once I reinstalled the Helix drive everything went back to working as normal. I hope you're able to get that working again!
@78tag Жыл бұрын
@@ChadHuskeyI didn't have any problems before 3.5. I have recently made a little room on my hard drive - maybe between the new update and the drive all will be good in the universe again. I was hoping you maybe hard a miracle cure for past experiences. Thanks for the response. If I find an answer I'll let you know for future reference.

Thanks for the tips, Chad. I acquired one of those JTV-69s (HSS from 2012) a while back and it's my go-to guitar now. The trem is much more dependable than my Standard, which I am now using as a backup. Not in love with the neck, although it's fine; I'm in the process of putting the finish on a custom one I'll replace it with. Still using a bunch of the models from your MEGA pack. Have a great one!
@ChadHuskey Жыл бұрын
Glad you're enjoying the JTV! Yeah putting a Warmoth neck on mine really upped how much I enjoyed playing it. I didn't hate the stock neck, but like you I wasn't in love with it.
@sonidojamon Жыл бұрын
I find the stock neck annoying and "light" somehow, closer to a shredding Ibanez guitar. What Fender/Strat neck replacement do you recommend (I have the JTV 69S with Fender CS Texas Special set). What about the 4th off-set hole?
@ChadHuskey Жыл бұрын
@@sonidojamon I have a Warmoth "Boatneck" shape Fender style neck. And stainless steel frets. For me that's a non negotiable. I'm pretty hard on frets and the stainless steel has eliminated me needing fret dressing and refretting. The boatneck shape was huge, so I took a small hand sander to it and shaped it in a way that made it super comfortable to my hand. Also I like not having finish on the back of the neck. It's my favorite feeling neck at this point. I had it on my SRV strat for years, but after getting into Variax guitars it never got played, so I put the stock neck back on that guitar and the Warmoth on the JTV. I just had to redrill the 4th hole that's different on the 69 than regular Fender neck pockets, but it wasn't a big deal. I would though recommend ordering a neck that isn't predrilled, so that way you don't have to worry about it and can just drill it exactly to fit the JTV. My biggest grip with the stock Variax neck was the nut width felt very narrow. I have fairly large fingers and it felt very cramped for chording.

Adding dynamic ambience after the cab really makes this come alive, it feels like an amp in a room. Usually, amp modelers are made with the goal of sounding like a record would sound. But I don't want to feel that way when playing, I want to feel like playing an amp in a room.
@michaelb9537 Жыл бұрын
The the nature of cab sims- what mic/positioning your replicating. Same with IRs where the mic type and positioning is fixed. I think the closest to “amp in room” is the speaker sim on the power cab which replaces the cab sim in the signal.

I really hope they revamp the rest of the models to channel switch like this. Not enough blocks or DSP on the stomp to snapshot 2 different amps. Imagine the Cali Texas or Archon set up this way.
@ChadHuskey Жыл бұрын
I'm just speculating here as I don't know the technical side of this, but I think the OD switch is just an added gain stage and this is basically a one channel amp with lots of options. Whereas the Cali Texas is a 2 channel amp. So it wouldn't be as feasible to allow you to switch back and forth between amp channels on one amp model since it's technically 2 different models if that makes sense. That's my guess for what it's worth. Would be really cool though if you could!!

Sooooo, the Grammatico amp's overdrive setting. Is it possible to have one of your footswitches act like a switch to turn that on or off? I got a neo-soul setting and I think the drive would be perfect for dirty leads
@IamtheFerryMan Жыл бұрын
You can for sure do this. In HX edit, it's under the controller assign tab when you've got the amp selected. I didn't try from the front of the unit, but my guess is command center.
@ChadHuskey Жыл бұрын
That's absolutely correct, though I don't think you have to go into control center to do it on the unit. I think you just go to that parameter and assign it from there to a footswitch. Though to be honest I never do any editing on the unit itself, only HX Edit, so I can't remember the exact process lol.
@wlliamson53 Жыл бұрын
@@ChadHuskey so go to the on/off peramiter and assign it?
@IamtheFerryMan Жыл бұрын
@Chad Huskey That sounds right. I only ever use quick assign to bypass from the unit itself. I still think this thing is glorious in that I never needed the manual until I was looking for something super particular. Even now, I fumble around a bit and usually find what I'm looking for. They really nailed the UI with Helix.
@jasonmedina4560 Жыл бұрын
Use snapshots and you can quickly change whatever parameters you want. On/Off, increase/decrease, to any or all of the blocks in the signal path, with one click.
