Yes it’s truly an investment learned over time lol . I felt guilty because i got this months ago and let it sit cuz I wasn’t feeling electric lately .. but dawned on me that I can send my mics thru this and plug in acoustic as well for separate paths .. soooo many options. I have the LT so I use a mixer for phantom power mics going in thru guitar in . Then I have acoustic running thru fx send or receive I forget but it’s amazing that you can internally route your path . Stoked

This video was a real eye-opener for me - thank you so much. I was all set to ditch the Helix and go with something less likely to cause option paralysis - like a Strymon Iridium. Now that I understand snapshots for the first time, I've come to the realisation that the Helix CAN be as simple to use as an Iridium plus outboard pedals. If I were buying real amps, I would have two, maybe three. Likewise, I'd have maybe six or seven pedals. Use the Helix the same way - just concentrate on a small number of amps and effects and take a bit of time to set them up right in the first place. I'm now working my way through all of your "How to create a great tone" videos, to see what else I can pick up. Great work - and SO much better than wading through the 75 pages of the user manual!

Thanks for all of your videos! They are a tremendous help! I got my Helix this past Thursday and I am simply loving it. The whole preset switch delay exists in all modeling units because they have to load things in and out of memory. The snapshots, which are a God send has all of it in active memory, we are simply turning them on and off. Still have so much to learn and getting tons of information from you! I really appreciate all the videos! Great tip on setting the Snapshot edits to Recall while you are programming the preset and then changing to discard after it is setup. Also, THANKS for showing how to set the parameter "changeability" in HXEDIT. I couldn't figure out how to do that without using the unit itself.

I don't have a Helix and I haven't actually played with one (though I have heard one and liked it). I'm looking into the Helix' possibilities as I'm thinking of buying one next year and I came across the concept of snapshots, so I wondered what that was all about. I was quite puzzled, until I saw this video. I would gladly recommend this video to anyone who wants to know what snapshots are, how they work and how you set them up. Even without having a Helix, this video gives me the feeling I can already operate one, or at least part of it. 😁 Very well done. If Yamaha/Line 6 isn't paying you already for making these vids, they should. These are not only making people eager to buy a Helix, they are also high quality in terms of sound & info and the explanations are really clear. Just perfect! Oh, and you play cool music, sir! great service you're providing here. I just recently acquired the helix and ran into a stumbling block with trying to quickly setup snapshots through the editor. I felt a bit overwhelmed when I first got my Helix LT. There's a bit of a learning curve in regards to making presets and routing everything. Most new guitar players know little to nothing about which pedals to put before/after the amp, send/return, splitting/merging blocks, 4CM, etc... I think they could make the user interface just slightly more "for dummies" friendly. Perhaps a tutorial mode built into the Helix where it explains step by step how to setup a basic preset or snapshot. Your videos really help with fully understanding and utilizing Helix. Thank you!

Got my Helix LT today and started working on a couple of tones for Metallica's Enter Sandman, just as a means of familiarising myself with the unit (been using a POD XT Live for twelve years). When I switch from the clean intro snapshot to the heavy rhythm snapshot, the chorus turns off, the distortion turns on and the noise gate turns on but the amp settings remain the same. The same thing happens the other way, too. I can save the heavy rhythm tone with all the settings as I want them but when I switch to the clean snapshot, the amp is still as per the heavy rhythm setting. I'm loving the tones that I've got out of this in just a couple of hours of fiddling about but this is driving me nuts....Heeeeelp!

Jason I have a question for you. I noticed on your the video that your strings are NOT top wrapped. Have you ever tried this ?. I always do it on guitars that have stop tail piece and found the strings easier to bend even though it allowed me to go up 2 gauges. i.e. I used to play with 9s and now use 11s. This also had the added benefit for me of a thicker sound and a lower action. Regards James.
@JasonSadites7 жыл бұрын
I have seen a lot of people do that but somehow never felt the need to try it myself as I have been happy with the feel of my stop tail piece guitars as is. I am a .10-.46 player on all of my guitars and so far seem pretty happy at that gauge. Thanks for the observations about it though and maybe I will have to give it a try to see if I like it :-)

I am absolutely in love with snapshots. Just came to the realization that the options are endless. I love the fact that you can have a switch activate an effect, or group of effects and they behave one way and then in another snapshot the effects are different. I will have a swell snapshot, but then on another one use the same swell switch, but they are VERY minimal so basically a bit of ambience. Do other modelers use similar concepts? Any modeler will have that delay if they change their preset, don't they? Just the nature of modelers.
@JasonSadites6 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more! Once somebody gets their head around how snapshots work it is amazing what can be done with them. I can't speak for different modelers and how the handle the problem of loading patches, but I do LOVE the Helix snapshot feature :-)
@spsanders696 жыл бұрын
That keyboard shortcut you posted the other day is also a major time saver. Nice going through all the effects and alt-click each parameter that I will be changing on each effect before I start. I would absolutely love if Line6 could put in some feature where you can set amps, effects and cabinets to a "preferred" setup and whenever you load that effect or especially for amps/cabs and EQs they are already at our ideal setting, instead of trying to remember what we typically change. I wish they took advantage of the Template setup on the board, instead of simply being another setlist.
@JasonSadites6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I love that shortcut also, but I can't take credit for it :-) A user from the Facebook group named Jason Kessenich messaged me about that as I was not aware. So we have to both thank Jason for that one! I agree about the preferred settings idea. I guess you could creat your own template for different amps like that yourself. I have done that with my preferred "chain" that I always use.

Great video. I have one dumb question...sorry I just received my LT this week. To create a snapshot do you first start with a preset and then make it a snap? I know...but everything I have read and watched seems to skip over this.

I will have to explore that a little further. So glad you like the studio comp at the end, that is one of my favorite things to do :-)

So if I’m understanding this correctly you’re going to be working with the same number of blocks between all of the snapshots? It’s just that each snapshot may have different blocks turn on or off for example if I want to clean sound on the fender twin and a distorted sound of Vox ac 30, both amps will be taking up block space But muted on and off between snapshots

Man your videos are full of such great information. One note of criticism though, you tend to say the same point 5-6 times, especially later in your videos. I'm watching on 1.5x and I still have to skip whole sections. Still, the benefits outweigh the cons here. Good stuff, just wish it was a little trimmer.

Dear Jason, do you play on the Helix with headphones sometimes? Which headphones do you use? My Helix LT sound awful on headphones... I founded out, that because of relatively high impedance of the output (12 Ohm), one should use the headphones at least with 96 Ohms (rule of 1/8). So now I ordered Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro with 250 ohm. I hope it will work... What is your experience?

I have been using my Sennheiser HD 600 headphones and they work and sound excellent with the Helix. They have a 600 ohm impedance and seem to pair up nicely. So, you may find that the new BeyerDynamic phones you bought may sound a lot better having a 250 ohm impedance, hope they work out for you!

Thank you very much for your answer! I hope they will work out for my. In case they will not sound good, I will try Sennheiser HD 600... :)

I wish we could just do that on the unit and not hx edit .. when I see that on the video I just check out mentally - can we just make snap shots on the unit to play live using the 4 cable method ?

is there an undo/recover feature. like if you mess around with the setting and don't like the changes you made (while you are still in recall mode) ?

Not that I am aware of.

Can I have 4 snap shots on the bottom and one on the top and then 3 effects on top or does it have to be 4 and 4?

is it possible to hit one button in stomp box and have two blocks turn on?
@JasonSadites6 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, it sure is :-) Make sure you have the capacitive touch turned on for your footswitches. Select the first block you want to control with the footswitch and touch the switch you want to assign it to. Then hit OK. Do the same thing for the other blocks you want assigned to that switch. You can also do this from HX Edit software with the Controller Assign tab.

Can you only have eight snapshots total, or eight snapshots per preset?
@JasonSadites5 жыл бұрын
You can do eight snapshots per preset :-)

Thanks. I figured out what I was doing after re-watching your video.
@simonhouel19843 жыл бұрын
Hmmm ... I think the snapshot edit logic should be backwards. The parameters are global by default and are turned into snapshot specific by right clicking. They should be snap specific and turned on as global by right clicking. This would be way more intuitive. Other than that, damn this thing powerful !

My Helix is from Hell...have very little satisfaction with it...tried time and time again to find something 80-ish crunch and Brad Gillis Boogie singing leads and can;t even get close. 3 weeks in and one week left before I can return it for a full refund...so lost and disappointed...My X3 live and Vetta II sounds better believe it or not. Can't believe how hard it is to find something satisfactory...even the presets sound like it is coming from a transistor radio. At the music store it sounds really good when going thru the Line 6 Powercab but thru my tube poweramp and Mesa 4x12 it just isn't happening.
@JasonSadites5 жыл бұрын
So sorry to hear this! Can I ask what tube power amp you are using? Depending on what kind of signal the power amp is expecting to 'see', you may have the output settings set incorrectly in the Helix. If the power amp is wanting to see a Line in then you must set the Helix appropriately and same as if it wants to see and Instrument input. I would check that first. Also, once that is set correctly, make sure you have any stock cabs or IRs shut off in your signal path. Let me know if any of that helps...

Why not just right-click turn them all white so you can tweak
