Thanks! The biggest thing to keep in mind is the relationship between delay/reverb/modulation and distortion. If you put a delay before a dirty amp the delay will probably sound washy, muddy, and unclear. Same with reverb. The distortion will apply not only to the dry signal (what you want) but also the wet signal (not so good). So in general you want to put delays and reverbs after any source of distortion. Modulation is harder to create a blanket rule, some sound good in both places.

Hey, you're welcome! You can either setup the HD500 in pedalboard mode where all 8 switches control individual effects within a preset or you can set it up in preset mode where the bottom four switches are presets and the top four are individual effects within each preset. If you hold the home button you can change between each mode. Then presets save in banks of 4. So if you save that preset as #1 it will be accessible by FS5. If you bank up you have 5-8, up again 9-12.

Kley, I enjoy your vids. You explained things very well. Every musician has that certain thing that everyone remembers. I think yours is your vocabulary. Very subtle and very entertaining. (sizzle snazzle and something something ). And yet it all makes clear sense to me. Keep posting and we will keep learning. God bless!!

@CarvinTone - Thanks for the feedback. Your point about the stock patches is very true. They are not very usable and are designed to be very flashy and show off how 'weird/different' you can make it sound. Overall though it is an extremely strong unit for the price.

Interesting about the mixer, as far as panning both sides to center, and getting what sounds like a beefier sound, as well as the volume. I'll have to experiment with that. One of the most challenging things with this processor, is all of the different level settings. I've had the HD500X for almost 2 years, and am still learning more. Very difficult for the beginner to navigate in my opinion. I still have my XTLive, and in a way, like it better. If my wife wouldn't have a cow, I'd just get a Kemper and be done lol.

The bank switches on the left call up the proper bank of 4 presets and then the lower 4 switches select A, B, C, and D in that bank. If you have it set in preset mode (not pedalboard mode) you can instantly call up those 4 presets in the selected bank.

@satchizgod - Definitely if you're using a lot of gain and the buzz is pretty bad. If you can manage it, I like to go without. Sometimes noise gates mess with your attack or sustain a little bit. And there can be weird EQ changes if they aren't transparent.

Very great and informative video post there Kley... I am so looking forward to getting mine POD HD500 the day after tomorrow... Can't hardly wait any longer... I've been watching KZbin for several days now ... and I think I've seen all POD HD500 vidz that is out there (at least not far from it)... I have a Fender Stratocaster and a J&D Les Paul that I'm going to use with it, and I'll post vidz of it as soon as I'm the proud owner :) -Tnx again! Regards from Arnt in Norway!

@AUDIODH - Good stuff on that delay, I've never had it explained fully to me before. Also I will be experimenting more with that pre-delay on the reverbs. Sometimes I have difficulty dialing in just the right amount of reverb. It can be a little overbearing or not at all. Thanks though, I think you'd be quite pleased with the HD500. Its shocking how good of tones you can get for so cheap. Its a home studio for $500.

In the HD500 Edit program, set input 1 to guitar and input 2 to variax. I just recently changed my input 2 to variax from whatever it was before and a substantial amount of buzzing and noise went away. Hope that helps!
@KleyDeJong
@KleyDeJong 11 жыл бұрын
I do use it in studio/direct mode when plugged in via USB or listening through headphones. You can mess around with other output modes, there really isn't a right or a wrong - whatever sounds best. But finding the right output system (headphones or speakers) is extremely important to getting the most out of a modeler. I'd recommend a FRFR speaker (google it) like a powered PA speaker (Alto TS110a) or some nice headphones. The better you can get the better it will sound.
@KleyDeJong
@KleyDeJong 12 жыл бұрын
If you leave it where both are on guitar it will double the input gain. Variax on input 2 will put it to normal.

I just used my HD500X for the 2nd time jamming with a friend and used the wah pedal (Chrome model). Yep, it was too much (I tried the Fassel, etc, also but the Chrome was the least irritating). Thanks for the tip on adjusting it to sound more natural, I'll have to apply this trick to the others as well.

It would depend on how you would come through the console. If you are able to get some nice stereo effects going and you like to use panning effects it could be sweet. But for a standard rock n roll patch it wouldn't be necessary. Keep in mind you'd also need to run out of both the L and R XLR or 1/4" outputs.
@KleyDeJong

It is hard to know for sure what the problem is, but it seems like a driver issue. Do a google search for HD500 driver and try to install it. When you launch Line 6 monkey does it seem to recognize the HD500? If it gives that green check mark it might just be Windows being weird.

From what I've read, they're only vaguely similar. But if you are familiar with POD Farm you should be able to grasp the HD interface quickly. I also learned (unfortunately) that the Farm and HD libraries are NOT interchangeable. So all those great patches you spent hours tweaking on the Farm will have to be recreated from scratch on the HD. I was really hoping for a copy/paste option, but no luck.

Is the delay for a thicker/doubling sound? Putting the delay mix to 100% @ 20ms will result in only the delayed sound coming out, with none of the non delayed sound. I don't think this will fatten up the sound. This will result in a latency type of effect, where the sound is behind what you're playing.

Hi there. I have another quick question. When you use the HD 500 while using recording software. Are the only things you need, is the HD 500, usb cable, and recording software. I've tried using reaper for recording, but it won't recognize the device. I might be doing something wrong, but I'm not sure. Do you need another device or even monitors to hear the sound. I'm assuming not.

If you're playing live, though, the room has it's own reverb, and it might make you really "mushed up" in the mix with the band. Also using those two verbs eats an AMAZING amount of bandwidth. Forget about dual amps and delays. For most of my patches, I wouldn't be able to do the other FX I want. To me, the non-verb sound sounds better, too. Also... the short delay trick works better if the mix is at 50%, at 100% it's just delaying the tone. I agree that the Z amp is amazing, tho.

I just got this board When your using it through the usb connection.Do you set your board to studio/ direct? Also I don't have a home studio set up.So I dont have the external speakers to play through. I only have In line earphones that I use for church and to me the sounds of the amps sound very muffled and weird.I switched the output to combo and it sounded better, but this would be incorrect right.I dont have the money to buy the external speakers, would a good set of headphones do the trick

Great informative video. Im looking to purchase one of these when my amp sells...a friend let me borrow his and it took about a half hour of fidgeting to decide on wanting one. Hey, can someone tell me if, with the delays, i can set the repeats to a time signature? So instead of running repeats at 400ms, I can have them as Dotted 8th notes that i can set to tempo via the tap tempo button. That's really the only thing i need to know about this board. I love all the amp models, but i do alot ot U2 style stuff so i need to be able to set my delay to Dotted 8th notes.

Hello, thanks for taking the time to make this vid. I recently got a HD500. I am still taking baby steps. After you build your channel, how do you save it to say 1A? And, how do you assign the footswitches to turn the screamer or a chorus on and off? Thanks again.

Thank you for your answering! So you mean that the dry signal is the one BEFORE the amp/distortion, and the wet signal is the one AFTER the mixer? so in general, any modulation, pitch or EQs can be set before? Thanks again Kley! you are such a great and a smart musician!

I use a xt live and love the sounds i created but I recently bought an hd 500, problem is i don't seem to recreate the sounds i have on my xt live, i thought it would be an improvement but I'm finding it really difficult to get the great authentic tones i have already. One reason i think is theres a model called chemical x that i use for my lead tones but its not on the hd 500. any advice appreciated

Man, the "room reverb" you use is actually not necessary. You can adjust the distance of the mike from the cabinet; that will give a roomy feeling to your tone. Try that instead of wasting DPS on an extra reverb. Cheers.

Very cool indeed, this is the sort of stuff I look for preping for my new HD500 next week. If one goes into these new units there is an amazing quality of tones way beyond the typical dumbass plug and play dufus who does not realize a stock preset is NOT a good judge of the unit but merely a starting point. I have always preferred building one from stock, very cool tips. Do more!!!!! Line 6 HDs are way beyond the prior state of modelers.

Download the drive solo for the lead sound, this was made for the single stroke strings riffs for rock and metal, 2013 new wave sound, , you may need to change the EQ because I used the pioneer headphones, and for some headphones and different wood guitars and pickups, you may need to do same adjustments, I found that the other metal amps they lack mids for harmonics and single string power riffs, Please give comments, Paulo silva8200 patches, best is the drive and drive lead
