Overpaid for the actual amount of work they do. There was a news story on KFI last year that LACO firefighters were making over $100,000 a year in overtime alone.

There are fire fighters as well as convict labor. The fire fighters are paid well. A comment I read from a prior convict who did this said it was $1/day.

I hope the additional resources weren't too late because the fire is at the bottom of a steep 5,000 foot mountain and in 100 degree weather. Not to mention the top of the mountain is a pine forest. If it were a bet I'd bet on the fire. In Oct 2007 many homes on top of the mountain were lost in a similar fire, the Slide Fire.

Growing up in Running Springs, every able bodied man, including my Dad and many friends, were volunteer fire fighters, and many wonderful Indian tribal men came in the hundreds from our State and many other States to help fight the fires! They were all amazing in their generosity and willingness to help us! At night, in the field across from where the post office and bank are now, they would hold a massive rain dance for our mountain towns too. It was a fantastic sight to behold and I thank every brave man who came to help us! In later years there have been firefighters from the CA prison system who also volunteer. My thanks to them too, as they were not the dangerous prisoners back then.

It would probably help if they actually trained those so called fire crews to cut fire lines instead of doing mop up duties. When I fought fires as ground crew we had polaski or adze and we scratched fire breaks well ahead of the fire and most of the time it works. Today they're too dependent on anything to make their jobs easy.

Typical Gov. Newsom, withholding the big tanker planes and choppers needed for 3 days! This fire could have been stopped while it was still down low on the mountains and still in the West end of East Highlands area! Every long-time- resident of this area, especially the mountain top villages, all know that the slopes, ridges and canyons allow these fires to get totally out of control within just a couple hours! Newsom is in his typical, “who cares !” Mode of operations for So. Cal fires! In 78 years of living through evacuation level fires in Running Springs, I’ve never seen one that did NOT go explosive 🧨 like this one and my folks and grandparents all lived through them before and with us !
