This is the process we use to line hone a Inline 6 block. There are multiple steps required to make this a easy job. Do 1 of them wrong and you will regret it. Some may say the cam to crank gear mesh will be drastically affected. Cut the cap .002, the hone will remove metal from the tight side of hole , which is the cap. The crank center line will usually move .001 or less in the downward direction. The cam/ crank is affected less because they are on a 45 degree angle.
The reason to line hone the block. It aligns all the main bearing bores perfectly. After performing, the crank will turn flawlessly and with much less friction.
