My number one request /comment over the life of this vu meter ( which is about 3 years old) A line in version of the microphone version. This is exactly that.
i have tried to make it as easy as possible. so its not just an upgrade version, its also a complete build video.
You have numerous choices - push button or bluetooth, uno or mega - all are line in., the fix is a direct replacement for the microphone. same level inputs etc.
The parts list is very small, so watch the video to work out exactly the parts you need

@@cine-lights the stereo version can be done by combining L and R channels using resistors as far as I can remember about 30 - 47K, but it's probably at a signal with a higher voltage than the one from the headphone port - or use arduino to mix the signal by connecting to the next port - but unfortunately this is not my ability :)

@@robertjamroz7637 basically you would repeat the same connection process for the second channel.. and then add the second channel to each vu meter... it's a lot of code rewriting but will see how it looks first.

Hello, very nice project. But I cannot manage making it work. The 40 leds strip lights up, the button make the patterns change, but it doesn't react with the music. I do not understand the aim of putting 2 résistors between 5V and ground on the pin A5, on 7:37 However, I use the right résistors and the right capacitor. In the sketch you have a pot on pin 4, but I Don't see it on the video. What is its role ? It would be great to add a pot for brightness and another one for the sensivity (so that you can use the volume you want then set the sensivity for a godd response of the vu meter) Can you help me please ?

BUT.. i would hold off for a week or 2.. i have a few big updates lined up. not just on the mono, but the stereo vu meters too.. and it takes both of them to a new level.. As i am typing this... i am working on version 2 of the mono, and the stereo version is 95% complete...i cant say anymore..., other than version 2 of the mono vu meter is aiming at 20 vu meters, and 15 standby patterns with alot of control.. and the stereo isnt far off that.

Also when I connect my mega to the computer output I get some noise. Also @cine-lights white acryl or glass makes it so much better doesn't it? ;)

Hi Fambaa. my only wish is to be able to share what i see... and my camera doesnt do it... The problem with this build is everyone wanted the microphone as line in... now re-writing the code to accept the new levels using a direct line in like the stereo vu meter would be a headache. so using a few resistors and capacitor to drop the levels to microphone level was easier for everyone. the only code writing was to disable the analogue reference.. which was this " // ".. im working on the stereo version as i write this, some vu patterns do not look good in stereo..... But a little teaser... this vu meter in stereo does look good

@@cine-lights Well my version is stereo and you can see it working. I think I had the code from someone else who used yours as base and modified it. He credited you as far as I remember. Idk exactly righ now what was changed. Something on the input I think, but it doesnt solve the problem when you turn up the volume of the line in. Code is still too sensitive. So If you turn down your headphone volume you sometimes see no lights at all and if you crank it up too much the bar VU meters are always full. Thats my issue right now. I have a slight idea how to change it by telling the Arduino to calcuate different values for the inputs I guess. But I havent looked at coding stuff for the better part of a 3/4 year now lol. That was kinda my idea. I mean this lightshow doesnt really need to be a real representation of loudness levels right, just approximate.

Good Idea and solution. In your scheme, the UNO board is powered by applying a voltage of 5 volts to the VIN contact. But all sources write that the recommended voltage is 7-12 volts. ( The board can be supplied with power either from the DC power jack (7 - 12V), the USB connector (5V), or the VIN pin of the board (7-12V). Supplying voltage via the 5V or 3.3V pins bypasses the regulator, and can damage your board..) Will the board not work properly from supplying 5 volts on contact VIN?P.S. Sorry my bad english. :)
@cine-lights
@cine-lights 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kolobov Igor. On ths setup all we are doing is powering the board so it will run standalone. As the leds are 5v we will use a 5v power supply to power both the board and the leds separately. we are NOT running the leds from the arduino as the arduino outputs a max of 2amps and our leds in this setup requires alot more, attempting it will crash the arduino and possibly damage it. yes you can power the board with the 2.1 dc power jack connector using 7-12v input, which is regulated to 5v but the you would require 2 power supplies so seems pointless. As we are using a regulated 5v power supply which we know is good we can use the Vin pin or any of the other 5v pin on the board to power it.

Please watch the video... i have included uno versions and mega versions. both bluetooth and push buttons for both.. so your answer is yes.., but limited to 60 leds using a push button, or 80 leds if using bluetooth.

Hello Cine Lights (Sorry I don´t know your Name), I build last year my 2 meter strip above my TV / Homecinema equipment, and worked with your Line In Stereo VU Meter - only with one Channel. So my strip is a 2 Meter / 60 LEDS stripe. At the beginning i don´t know anything about programming an arduino or C++ Code. In this time i learned programming like a scriptkiddy and changed parameters of your Code. Now it works fine,and all visitors are enthusiastic, when they see the effect… passive mode, slow changing colors or slow effects. and the active mode with the VU Meter. But now I have a problem. Your new effects… I have to build them in my scriptkiddy code. I have too look, how. :D Thanks for your perfect ideas… If I have a wish free… I am looking for an Idea for Christmas and LED effects on a Window. perhaps with white and red LEDs... Snowfall or an other idea… I don´t know. If you have an idea… I am sure, I want to copy your ideo to my window(s) With best regards, and thanks for your time and channel… Markus, … one point… What do you think about a configuration with a blue tooth connection with Android? to change the modes?
