Absolutely right.They are giving priority to that lines which are not needed at this time instead of connecting Subarban areas to main Mumbai. MMRDA should give priority to areas where no travel options available.

Not entirely yet because I’ll try to do my own reading before reaching any conclusion. But line 14 should atleast be discussed more I suppose.

This is just a fabulous piece. Very disheartening that government does not really focus on Line 14 and many such important lines. This will also reduce the traffic load on Thane Belapur road and the upcomimg Airoli Katai Naka in the future. Can you please explain what is the exact status of this project and why isn't government acting on it ?

Glad that you liked it! As per the last reply we got from the MMRDA via a news article. They are saying that the DPR is still in the final stages of completion. Which is strange since it has been 2.5 years since it was awarded. What I personally think is it needs political push to move forward on priority, without sustained political push it wont get started. They have a few unfortunate misplaced priorities at the moment :/ We are planning to hold an online pressure campaign to get media & politician attention in the near future, we are just waiting for the right time & opportunity to launch it.

@@DombivliCentral the sad fact is that even if its construction starts by March-April 2023 (which is highly unlikely), we could only see the first trainsets running by 2028 because i feel construction can be little time consuming due to bridge in Thane creek, hill cutting towards shil phata etc. Here, I am not counting any environmentalist poking nose and other legal issues that mmr's development is usually a victim of. I also thought for a brief stint that line 14 can also be thought of as an extension of line 6 or more accurately line 6b.

@@amishagarwal3151 Yes, that's true. The construction wont start even by Late 2023 I think. General Consultant stage after DPR alone will take 9-10 months at least, another few months for land acquisition, another 5 years for construction to happen. But at least it has to get started ASAP to reap benefits by 2028, else it will be a big lost opportunity for Mumbai to capitalize on. We even suggested some points to avoid environmental litigation like a detour via Shil gaon to bypass the forest land, will also prevent last mile traffic from rickshaws on Kalyan-Phata Junction. Lots of things are possible to minimize mangrove loss too, like having a suspension bridge instead of stilts. Or maybe divide up projects into phases, like Line 12 Kalyan-Katai & Line 14 Katai-Ghansoli in Phase 1, similarly Ghansoli-Kanjurmarg & Katai-Badlapur in Phase 2 . We were able to force the MMRDA into preparing the Line 14 DPR then. Planning next campaign to move from DPR stage to Construction stage

I got reply from MMRDA on 25th May 2022 saying that as below "Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority(MMRDA) has completed the Detailed Project Report for Appropriate Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) for Line-14: Kanjurmarg to Badlapur Corridor on PPP Basis” in month of October,2021. Upon approval of the said DPR of Metro line-14 by the Authority and Government of Maharashtra, the work will be taken up for implementation after Bid Process Management"

We had asked the MMRDA comissioner via a Free Press Journal journalist to give his brief 2 months ago. He said the DPR is still not ready, maybe they are making some changes. Also they havent taken any decision regarding the construction model there was buzz about PPP two years ago, but we had asked the journalist to mention that we are not in favour of PPP as private companies wont like to invest in public transport as it isn't an inherently profitable business & might charge unaffordable fares to recoup losses and delay project, they replied that they still havent decided with the PPP model. The thing is this line hasn't been discussed in any of the MMRDA meetings according to the MOM's i have read in last two years, so the reply you have received is probably a copy paste PRO reply from two years ago.

Leave all this aside even a proper road from Kalyan Shil Road to Diva station will spike the development of Khidkali, Desai & Padle Gaon but that too is in limbo. And coming to MML14 it has to be prioritized now with all the lines almost ready to construct. Also, if you could campaign for Airoli Katai Naka Phase 3 (NH4 - Katai Naka) that would be great. AKN Freeway will surely offload huge traffic from Kalyan Shil Road.

In developed countries (in metros) emphasis is placed on public transportation rather than using own modes of transport, even if it is a loss making entity which most of the times is highly unlikely after some years. Here projects are undertaken only after seeing the feasibility for profits.

The analysis is or could be correct or make sense when considering the today's condition but the infrastructure projects should me made keeping in mind the future. Every country when move from developing to developed there is certain change in their life styles. The places they will go to eat their mode of transport etc. for next 10 years the number of people who will have cars will increase as we have seen in the case of every developed nation China is the latest example ... The infrastructure of this level can't be approved and made once we have the problem. ..

I have noticed western suburbs develop faster than central suburbs just an example of Mira road and Kalyan. Mira Road was so underdeveloped and now look how Mira Rd developed and Kalyan lacked behind.

Mira road saw an explosion of development after the Western line between Borivali & Virar got quadrupled leading to more transport capacity being available. It also has to do with the geographic location. Kalyan is farther away from Mumbai by road & rail as compared to Mira Road. It's also closer to the coast which is also desirable to a lot of people.

I got shifted to my 1 BHK house in Badlapur in 2021 & it's impossible to travel to South Mumbai Everyday that's why I am working from Home. I'll definitely die one day hanging from the local train, It's so packed and that to from Badlapur itself. I don't understand how people enter inside of the train from Kalyan, Dombivli,etc. It's literally scary. I'll most likely shift back to my old 10 by 10 house in Charni Road instead of Staying here in Badlapur and wasting my time. Metro 14 is need of the hour for this region. Already the stations ahead like Vangani & Neral are starting to get filled This Region will turn into hell for daily commuters.

I myself have avoided near death situations trying to board a train, hanging out until Thane on three seperate occasions from Dombivli, i quit taking fast trains and have to endure the body pain and time it takes to travel to South Mumbai daily via a slow local. It was one of the first reasons why i started this channel 🙁

My Instagram handle is currently defunct, we mainly run the campaign on Twitter where we have some decent traction, the Line 14 DPR got pushed because we had made the mail campaign back in 2018 and flooded their emails. Currently we are waiting for an opportune time to restart the campaign in such a way that we can put maximum political pressure looking at upcoming municipal elections and get the project past the DPR stage and on to the tendering and construction stage. We are building on the old campaign to mobilize more number of people this time around than we did in 2018 and in a broader way, need more people like you.
