My ancestor was forcibly ousted from Norway during the Lutheran reformation, for being Catholics, moved to the Netherlands, married a Dutch woman, and moved to Austria to build stone churches as a mason. Their son moved to Eastern France near the Rhine, and the family remained in France until moving to America after the Prussian Franco War.

Here's a different side of the story. I am slowly trying to learn more about our history, and by default about Luther and about other religious figures. It has been suggested to me once before, but never backed up, that a darker side of the reformation might have been that its genesis led to some unfortunate episodes. Luther's reformation may have been designed to give the people freedom to worship the ways their conscience dictated; but is it true, then, that those who heard and followed Luther's message subsequently used it to persecute ordinary catholic families?

@@LineageJourney I am loving your 5 minute stories. They help me learn about a history of Europe that I was never taught in school. I wonder if you have also researched the possibility that those inclined to follow Luther, and later on Ellen White, might have not always been the peaceable, self-effacing types we are led to believe - that some, indeed, might have been prone to giving ordinary catholics or perhaps those from other groups the same type of persecution they themselves had historically received. I am myself a newish SDA member; it's the message that's important. But it doesn't sit right with me if we're all prone to just not teaching a balanced view of history. Jesus was perfect; people aren't. I want to hear the truth.

How ‘norwegian’ is your family after all that time? Is it just something you discovered while doing family history research, or is it a remembered family story?

Praise God again for such beautiful work. Can I ask what books outside the Great Controversy did you use? The Great Controversy has some great insights and everyone should read it but these videos you seem to go deeper. Thanks

Thank you so much for these well done professional videos. They are now a support to our small group study on the Great Controversy. I wonder if there will be future episodes on other christian churches that held to the Bible, existing in Central Africa and the Armenians of Asia, as mentioned on page 63, paragraph 2 of the Great Controversy?

It's very interesting, but I am surprised that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ is only mentioned three or four times in thirty episodes

Jesus is the center of all episodes. Jesus kept the truth alive in a small groups of people throughout history. Praise God ! Several men names were mention in the Bible. The Bible was centered around the Father and the Son Jesus Christ which are one. God raised up men throughout history to carry the gospel even down to our time.

I’m a former Lutheran who became a Catholic, so I lament the Reformation, but I can at least respect portions of the Swedish Reformation for not destroying the beautiful, medieval material culture.

Long live the Catholic Church! Catholic means universal. Jesus (from the Book of Matthew): “On this rock, I shall build my Church.” Rock in Latin means Petris, or Peter. The Apostle St. Peter was the first Pope. Catholics are part of the original, universal Church.
