Linear Particle Accelerator is an electromagnetic accelerator where a charged particle is accelerated by repeatedly passing it through a potential difference. Such particles can then be used for desirable nuclear experiments.
In this video, I discuss the principle, construction and working mechanism of LINAC (or Linear Accelerator)

This is the clearest, best description of the process that actually accelerates the electrons (as opposed to the general description of what LINACs are and how they work in abstract) that I've seen yet. I'm not a physicist so I needed it broken down into simpler terms like this. I've been interested in these things ever since I first read about the Therac-25 disaster where a programming error coupled with a lack of mechanical safeguards caused several cancer patients to be given massive overdoses of beta radiation and killed by a machine designed to save lives. Nightmarish! Anyway, excellent video. You'd make a great professor if you're not already.

my prof gave us an assignment wherein we're supposed to explain concepts from nuclear physics to the class and this is my topic, and I have my presentation tomorrow. I know nothing about linacs and goddamn, you explained it beautifully. I wish you taught my entire Nuclear Physics course! I'm definitely going to watch the entire Nuclear Physics playlist now!

As a layman, this is the only clear description I've encountered yet. One thing I'm still trying to wrap my mind around is the way electron beams differ from electric current. I'm used to the idea of electrons flowing from a negatively charged source to a positive source, like terminals on a battery. But electron beams seem to my small brain to just be spraying electrons out into the ether. Like is the tungsten target used for photon/X-ray generation "grounded?" Where do the electrons go? I envision lost, homeless electrons just loitering around a LINAC drinking electroliquor and just generally being electronuisances. Do they go to ground? Are they somehow just converted to energy?
