Quick tip for anyone reading this: Once you have found the coefficient that goes in front of the n and you need to find the second number all you have to do is get the coefficient say it was 5 and take it away from the first number in the sequence. For example: 6, 11, 16, 21, 26 We can see that this is a linear sequence as the numbers are being increased at a constant rate of +5. This means the the first part too our nth term is 5n. To find the second part all you have to do is take away 5n from the first number in the sequence. In this case it would be: 6-5 = +1 So... the nth term is 5n+1

This is the most tedious way to perform nth term calculations. Just do the following and it'll work on all of the examples shown in this video. 1st term +(nth position-1)× difference between two numbers. Note : It only applies if the difference between two numbers is constant.

A brilliant explanation. However, what if we are not given the numbers for instance? Ex. A sequence increase by 5 each time. The first term is x. Write down an expression for x. Answer...................... The sum of the first four terms is 54. Set up an equation to work out the value of x.

Hello, I've this question: A sequence starts 9, 20, 37... . Its nth term = en^2 + fn + g, where e, f, g are constants. Find the values of e, f, and g. I've done some work and got to the point where I got simultaneous equation with 3 values, but can't seem to find an answer. Or is it a mistake in text book? I got.... e + fn + g = 9 2e + fn + g = 20 9e + fn + g = 37 Please help me I can't do this.

Mate . You should be aware of the BODMAS rule. Where you multiply before you add? In one of these cases you're subtracting before your dividing and in the other your adding before multiplying . Each case would give you a different answer. Stick to BODMAS
