Interesting. Me, I'd say the 1st read is the O-line which gives pretty straightforward pass block look. And as a coach, I'd never ever ever ever ever teach anyone to cross their feet. I know it can be done efficiently but to me that's just a no-no. Much rather have them turn their hips and remain the alignment on upper torso. But yeah good and important points.

Yeah my coach taught me o line reads unless specifically told not to against a certain formation. Like as an ILB against an I Option with the slots, you should read the near back. Slot motions away, read the fullback. Slot stays, read him, go where he does. It's my first season and I'm too fat for Linebacker right now so I'm temporarily on D line, but my coach told me to drop to a 5.0 flat 40 this offseason (implying weight loss) and he'll start me ILB, since I'm one of our better tacklers and my reads are pretty sound.

The backer needs to shorting his steps (which can be taught), he needs to stay low for better change of direction and he needs to take a better pursuit angle to the ball carrier. He can't run flat. Aiming point to the ball carriers hip.

Cornerbacks and Linebacker are often better catchers than rest of positions in the football team except for the offensive backs and the recievers. So yes
