Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, well I’ve been fishing sixty years using an overhead thump, I’ve always wanted a little more distance and learnt to pendulum cast about forty years age, but didn’t like to use it for safety reasons, I tried your layback cast with a multiplier and fixed spool and it has added thirty to forty yards to my cast, I found it a r3ally simple and smooth cast, thank you.

Full of little gems The footwork tip, so simple, clear and effective Combined with the "scoop" (it all goes together) this has cured a plague of the classic low rights (almost). The little layback cast is the future , works in a tight spot and trains the end of the cast. As ever practice practice practice, as suggested by the boys " Got to get it outside the tip " Many thanks Gentlemen.

Awesome video. I still don't think I'll ever master either of these casts, but I certainly will try and thanks to this have a clearer understanding of some of the critical aspects. For years I've been doing a single axis cast I picked up from a buddy who would always hit the distances under fishing conditions. It was effectively an over-the-head cast, but included a back and forth pendulum type swing with one hitting the lead as it moved back. It was certainly more powerful than the basic overhead thump, and we'd be out-casting most on the beach. But I now understand that we were doing precisely what you've explained should be avoided - hitting the lead "inside the tip". Yes it loaded the rod better, but was really only using the tip section. My buddy was a tall strong guy (much more than me), but thankfully neither of us had sufficient power to snap rods with this technique..
@George_Vargiamides Жыл бұрын
Accidentally this is the casting style I have come up when I faced problems like crowded fishing spots, accuracy and longest possible distance. Here, at Greece, the 99,9% of anglers use the overhead cast. Most of them with poor performances. But some "crazy ones" learned a lot about long casting. I am also trying to do so. What my experience thought me is that you can indeed load your rod fully when the lead is out of the tip. Avoid bending the tip. It will snsp eventually. Load the middle and the butt section.

Thanks very much, gents. I've watched loads of videos and have started using the pendulum. The casts were explained really well and I found it very helpful in my quest to have the option to cast 150+ yards. I bought the DSCS recently, and really like it, but find I can wrap my thumb around my 6500 mags better. they feel slightly smaller. What do you think? Cheers.
@adamslack72783 жыл бұрын
its because the 6500 are a lower profile reel so the spool is actually closer to the rod blank. I have the same problem with my saltists, but i use a thumbie which gives me the extra grip on the spool.

Recommendation for a mag reel? For casting, an akios, daiwa 7ht mag or similar 6500 sized reel although the abu's are now crap. For fishing? Penn Fathom Mag II. not enough difference in distance to worry about, but unlike the 6500 sized reels, the Fathom is a relatively indestructible reel. Rod wise? Something you can bend, but a new daiwa sandstorm wouldnt be a bad starting point

I'm 62y/o do you think I can still learn this type of reel.......
