The game goes into extra time, a lovely through ball puts Lineker one on one with the Cameroon keeper Thomas Nkono, who brings Lineker down in the box for England's second penalty. Every English fan in the stadium, watching world wide, sat on the edge of his or her seat as up stepped Lineker to again bury it deep into the net. England win the game 3-2 and are heading into a emi Final showdown with West Germany.

I was kid back then As a young African was passionate fielding for The Indomitable Lions. However, it was the reaction of the refree which broke our hearts, to us he looked like he was celebrating the ending of the game...I never liked Lineker since then...He clearly dived the second penalty...and was diving throughout the game...

Body language from Cameroon's goalkeeper before, (0:29) and the players after(0:45) the penalty says it all. Looks defeated, cannot believe the decision by the referee. Ball was already in the back of the net before Lineker kicked it.

Most blatant dive for a pen (2nd one), and probably the 1st if there was a better angle. Gary has made a post playing career discussing "The hand of God" goal, but never once has has the decency, or spine to admit that he cheated just like Maradona did, and as Terry Fenwick did in '86 when he tried to break Maradona's jaw, and legs in the first half!

Clear dive for the second penalty. I never knew this until I watched a documentary. If this happened to England they wouldn't stop talking about it - just like Maradona's "hand of God" goal.

Remember watching this one as a 13-year old in Dublin - of course we wanted England to lose. It was sad for the tournament when Cameroon exited since they were one of the few exciting sides to watch in an otherwise very poor tournament. In terms of the penalties I disagree with the consensus - I actually think the first one is dodgy, Lineker finds the carpet very easily and makes a real meal out of it. The second, on close examination, is legitimate.

BOTH OBVIOUS DIVES!!! Fuck! At least admit it, then I'd have some respect for yous. Scotland qualified v Wales for the 78 WC when our player Joe Jordan handled the ball & we got a penalty for it. We scored 7 went 1-0 at Anfield. Then Dalglish scored to make it 2-0. I'll at least admit that, & England crucify Maradona for "cheating" in 86 .. hypocrites!! I'm English. I love my nation and I'm Breixit. And I wish Cameroon had won this game because they deserved too and it would have helped the developing world to have semi-finalists who were African. It also would have deprived this treacherous, rich, cheat of the footballer his status as national hero. Lineker is a Remainer through and through and any England fan should hate him with a passion.
