Knowing the difference between sashimi and sushi may not win you over any friend in the US, but it will win you over friends in Japan. Speaking as Japanese, confusing those two dishes is like confusing hamburger and hotdogs.

japan didn't have raw salmon until the 1980's, the Japanese salmon had parasites so it had to be cooked, but in the 1980's Norway brought its parasite free salmon to japan which they started using in 1995

It may just be raw fish but every time I have Salmon or Tuna that I cooked I always think "Damn... why did I cook this? It is better raw." and generally it is because the fish is not nearly fresh enough so I guess not being hideously sick is a good reason.

You can just lightly cook (slowly) them so that the insides wouldn’t be completely raw

Yep, if you dont live on the coast and get your fish from reputable fishers, trusting the raw fish sushi gets trickier.

Farmed Salmon 🍣 is safe to eat Raw because of the quality control Fresh tuna is also safe because they’re really deep sea

I live in the middle of Europe and yesterday, while promenading past the fish isle, I saw that they offered raw salmon cubes for those poke bowls (I guess). I'm 3 hours away from the Belgian coast if I drive like a grandma (trust me I do) but dang that's not convincing me to eat raw fish 😂

9:18 This is called "Ko(n)bu--maki/昆布巻き," not sushi at all but a sardine/other ingredients like burdock rolled up with Konbu/kelp and to simmer in dashi stock with soy sauce until soft.
