Well, you haven’t got sick yet with a terminal illness yet. if you’re a millionaire, you’ll be OK, you can afford it. I see you haven’t witnessed a mass shooting yet. I see you are not living in a city where people are drinking lead water. Get a bit of suntan and you’ll have ICE Gestapo asking for your papers. And when you travel to the Middle East, you’ll have a Canadian flag on your backpack and you’ll pretend you be a Canadian. You haven’t been stuck on the highway or on the airport’s for a whole day because of a snow storm. And don’t live along Tornado Alley. The truth is things are not like you see in Hallmark Christmas movies, but we’re resilient and we adapt. I just wish we had a president. It’s been three years without one.

It is wonderful to hear someone explain the good things about living here. Often, we tend to take them fro granted because we were born into it. Americans need to watch this. I think that too many of us forget how much we have compared to many places in the world. Things that are trivial or commonplace to us are amazing to people from other counties. I appreciate your enthusiasm. ;)
@BabyDoIIx7 жыл бұрын
need to watch it...why? Nothing here was of substance to avg. Americans ...weather? Cuz people fake smile? Cuz you CAN make a lot of money? Tell that to the 80 million + Americans working 2+ jobs just to pay rent, or are on Govt. assistance ...or those that without a $100,000 college degree will never go further than flipping burgers, or how the Americans doing HARD TIME IN PRISON for being caught with WEED?? Those literally dying in their homes because they're unable to afford healthcare for an operation. The funny irony here...is almost ALL of her 13 reasons were trivial. Not once did she mention anything about coming to America because of what it stands for, what it means to be an American...everything she mentioned was shallow, or about her being able to make herself rich. I think you need to reevaluate how you think Americans need to watch this because we "have it so good" ....tell that to the 20% that have less than $100 in the bank, while banks are being bailed out with trillions while they steal money.
@matthewmcandrew16107 жыл бұрын
Certainly nothing of substance to the average American that doesn’t take personal responsibility for themselves or for their outcome. Crying foul or playing the victim (even if it may be true in some regard) will ultimately doom you to one of outcomes you describe. There is a huge difference between living in America and striving to live the American dream. This Russian gal has my respect. - micro-aggression intended.
@commonsense54947 жыл бұрын
+Shelia Ellison You've obviously never seen *real* poverty. I have been around the world a few times, and I've seen families who survive by picking through garbage dumps for food and scraps to sell, who drink from ditches that smell of sewage. I've seen places where starvation - not hunger - is an everyday thing. I've seen war torn countries where surviving the day is a victory. Do we have problems here in the U.S. that need fixed? Hell yes, BUT, we also need to be aware that we have the means to fix it, we have the basic necessities, we can educate ourselves. I think *you* need to reevaluate how you view your life, your country and the world. You may not have it as good as you want it, but you do have the means to make it better and you need to have some perspective on how bad your life is compared to people elsewhere. In other words, get over yourself.
@matthewmcandrew16107 жыл бұрын
Sorry, you lost me when you started to use worldwide poverty to support your argument about awful-awful America.
@commonsense54947 жыл бұрын
I'm talking about having perspective, which was the point of my original post. We can work to make things better - which I have been doing for my 70 years on this planet - while not having a constant pity-party about how awful *we* have it. I probably recognize the problems we face better than you, since I was in the movements back in the 60's, and haven't stopped since, but I always keep in mind that I can't succumb to feeling sorry for myself, and I see WAY too much of that nowadays. People, who, when you point out that other people have it worse, just assume that you're downplaying the issues that concern them. We're not alone on this planet, and right now in history is a damn good time to remember that. One of the things I heard from others in my travels is how arrogant and spoiled Americans seemed because they were always complaining about things that a large percentage of the world wished they had. I hope that you can have two things in your mind at a time - our problems and their problems, they're not mutually exclusive.
@elexg69827 жыл бұрын
You've definitely picked up that American optimism. Honestly, sometimes I think immigrants and foreign workers, atleast the ones I've met, are more "American" than natural citizens sometimes lol. I love how they get so excited about the culture here. :)

I have always thought how neat that was, plus I was there to witness it. She even said a speech to her graduating class, she said your never to old to learn and accomplish your goals in life. Refunds: We've been capitalist forever so the real reason is... serving the customer is a top priority. One of the things you don't like is the cost of American healthcare... and that stems from NOT having a free market (thanks, government!).

I would live in Singapore, because of the safety, cleanliness, and as a retired citizen. I know it is super expensive, so I will live in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and just do my visa run to Singapore. I love shopping online also.

I'm an American lucky enough to be married to an enthusiastically happy immigrant come naturalized citizen like her. When we moved to the Midwest, I was afraid my worldly wife would find the place boring after all the places she's lived. On the contrary, she told me, "open your eyes to the beauty and the opportunity" of living here. I learned love love America more from my foreign wife.

@Sovereign_Citizen_LEO7 жыл бұрын
+Pfsif - Taxes may be lower in Cubaflorida but Mexifornia is still the better state in which to live (by far), if you have the money or can eek out an existence. It's also the better state for business, recreation, technology, and talent. Florida is pretty cool though, and you can afford a much nicer house for the same money. But you are right about the humidity.

it's possible, just buy what you need, not what you want and living with the means. But some Asians will find that hard because of the constant comparing you with your siblings or relatives and you got no choice but to spend more to conform to their expectations.
