for your information you can check again and be sure yourself for the origin of language and the physical adaptation it's one theory as there are others you might have mentioned some which i haven't and i do not use that kind of language since these lectures are usually for first year students we do not want to complicate things

Hi there! Sir i'm sitting for PhD. Examination in applied and general linguistics. For now i collect data on both disciplines but i'm lost can't end up with a clear outline. So i started from the origins of language ending to jeremy harmer's book (didactics) i'm working hard on forming a story timeline on linguistics how it started, its scholars, branches, schools .. etc. What do you think sir? Any advice?
@HM-English
@HM-English Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you are trying to create a comprehensive overview of the field of linguistics. This is a great way to get a broad understanding of the subject, and it can be helpful to have a timeline to organize your thoughts and keep track of the development of the field. One piece of advice I would have is to make sure to focus on the key contributions and achievements of the scholars and schools that you discuss. It can be easy to get bogged down in the details, but by highlighting the main ideas and innovations, you will be able to provide a more cohesive and clear overview. It might also be helpful to consider organizing your timeline around key themes or questions that have been central to the field of linguistics. This can help to give your overview a logical structure and make it more engaging for your readers. Finally, don't be afraid to seek out additional resources or seek guidance from your supervisor or other experts in the field if you need help organizing your material or if you have questions about specific aspects of linguistics.

@@HM-English yes, i do! I appreciate your guidance. The series on your channel are quite helpful, i guess you sir have followed a great chronological order to cover the descipline in whole. I checked them out, took a sneak peek 😊 and im pleased! I can refer to it. I intended first to just google the two terms (applied/theoritical linguistics) and go brief. But it seems to be a deep research. We'll be asked about both general and applied linguistics, just to make sure sir, did you mention the two terms within? Im sorry for asking too much, thank a lot 🙏🙏🤝

@@HM-English thank you sir, i guess i've found an answer that general or theoritical linguistics focuses on language structure and developement in general, whereas applied ling means the practical applicaltion of language studies ( application of theories and studies of language) i will watch your series and trace when each of them started. I graduated masters in 2017 and been an excellent student, since then, i took the biggest interval ever up to now. So five years of housekeeping is stronger enaugh to erase years of learning! The chance comes at last, so im swaped with work, doing my best to be one of the three winners accpeted and succeeded to be a PhD. Student. Thanks for having given me a reply. Much appreciation sir!

It means in the context here: humans have ti ability to learn a language It does not mean they are born with a language
@nyarakatch
@nyarakatch 4 жыл бұрын
Well, it is just a theory, but Noam Chomsky says that humans are born with the ability to learn language, and that language starts in the mind where there's mental lexicon (like human dictionary). So when one is exposed to a language, and learns it, he stores it in the mental lexicon. He then is competent. He also talks of performance. When one hears a word or comes across one, he first scans through the ML so as to interpret it, same goes for when he needs the appropriate words, methods, or ideas to execute something. It's all in the mind, inborn.
