You are so right!! The texts are horrible and there's a lot of terminology. Yet, somehow, the subject remains fascinating. Thanks so much for your honest, balanced and fair vid!

A wee story about con 2. We learnt in syntax about Chomsky's binding principles and how they were unshakeable, top-of-the-notch, etc. Later in semantics and pragmatics, our lecturer did a speech on what could be called a good chunk of their life's work on disproving those same principles (all printed in a uni press book to boot)! I asked my syntax lecturer if they've heard their neighbour across the cubicle was doing this - they hadn't, and went to the defense of the principles syntactically. Apparently semantics and pragmatics are known as the poor cousins in linguistics. In child language acquisition, we learnt this wasn't always the case and the focus goes back and forth between departments depending on the "era".

Thanks for the well structured and honest video! This mindset should have been around when I studied (1990s). 👍🏻✨

I’ve just graduated from a uni. I studied Linguistics lol. It’s time to ask why I did that!
