Very nice. In the US, we often fasten with plastic insulated metal staples, so if the plastic melts, the staple remains to hold up the wiring.

Is the use of the metal staples required as part of your codes in the US?

Another option for fire rated fixings for Twin are Schneider electrical metal clips, basically the plastic clips but metal

The Linian Fire Clips appear to provide a more secure fixing, I very much doubt you'd be able to pull or hang off a Schneider fire clip as Gary done in the video.

@@ashmanelectricalservices4318 and wiring twin in metal conduit would be even better. Fully up for using them on concrete/brick walls but who is going to be drilling 6mm holes in joists and rafters? I was only providing another fire rated fixing for twin, Mr negative.

@@anttrib My apologies if my comment came across as negative... On wooden joists or rafters, yes I agree with you, probably a cheaper and faster alternative but in masonry walls and ceilings, I'd probably go with Linian.

Hi. Any solution that will prevent premature collapsing of the wiring systems has a massive thumbs up from me (Gaz). These clips were very simple to install and blended in with the wiring systems 👍😁. Thanks for the comment and feedback Gaz.

Great design!.. You could hide them inside pvc surface trunking too? After screwing the trunking to the wall drill a 6mm hole push the clip in, maybe a blob of intumescent seal to maintain ip integrity, voila done. These are the only ones I have seen so far that cover 90% of situations where support is required. The only issue I can see like someone else pointed out is... How do you remove them 🤔

I would like to use them but have you seen the price!!!, making it harder and harder for self employed electricians to afford stuff. £1.20 for plastic clips, £30 for them 🤔🤔 someones getting brown envelops.

What a brilliant product. Related question, is the void above a suspended ceiling seen as a preventative barrier to stop the callapse of a wiring system?
@ashmanelectricalservices4318
@ashmanelectricalservices4318 5 жыл бұрын
If the suspended ceiling supporting the wiring system has no fire redundant properties then no, the wiring system would need to be adequately supported by some other means.

@@ashmanelectricalservices4318 would the grid frame itself not be deemed as a structural barrier? They are usually a metal grid frame
@ashmanelectricalservices4318
@ashmanelectricalservices4318 5 жыл бұрын
@@gazdkw82 In my opinion, I won't deem this to be an appropriate means of preventing premature collapse of a wiring system as more often than not the cables are just pulled in and lashed across the top of the metal grid, when the ceiling tile catches light and fails, the loose cabling and slack will fall through the opening entangling anyone below.

Looks great for bricks & blocks, but on wood I'll be sticking to the Schneider metal T&E clips as no drilling required.

Used Thorsman myself, they hammer in just like the standard clips, and as a bonus, you can remove them with a removal tool just as easy. Universal for 1.5 and 2.5 T&E cables.

They are a great product but the price makes them less favourable. I use a nail in type metal clip from Schneider which is about a quarter of the price and can be easily removed and reused if required. Most customers don’t understand, nor care about the updates in the 18th edition of BS7671. They care about getting the job done for a reasonable price. With all these expensive additions there’s no wonder so many cowboys are getting so much work. Bodge it and leg it!! Any decent spark knows and agrees the importance of safety in our game, but the authors of the big and very expensive blue book, along with the manufacturers of these clips etc need to see the real world. At the front line it’s all about cost and making it more expensive ultimately makes it less safe💰💰

It's more about surface mounted cables and suspended over escape routes dropping down and entangling fire fighters attempting to deal with the blaze/get people out.
@robbbenedict
@robbbenedict 2 жыл бұрын
@@efixx surface mounted cabling makes sense. Though, even if on fire, wouldn't the insulation layers just melt first, leaving the wire itself suspended by the straps (which would hold longer with this product). I can see how it's useful, has it been made code yet? I'm in Canada, not sure about adoption here yet.
