I feel like poor link is going to have some false hope. Barbara seems like a maltese mix, which are eager to please and easy to train. Meanwhile Jade a dachshund may just want to be a love sponge forever and might take a little extra to train. But of course dogs are all individuals and all dogs are different. So jade could be super easy to train!

That's very interesting about the southern region keeping dogs like that. Have lived on the front range the Rockies all my life. Felt exactly the opposite as a kid. Only Uppity dog owners had leashed or penned dogs with houses. Our mutts or hunting dogs were never leashed; and if they ran off for a bit , you just called them and they just came back and followed you.They always slept in the kitchen on a pillow. we gave them bones to chew, you know, just mellow well behaved dogs.

Nothing wrong with your dog just being a love sponge :P It means she's a loving and cuddly dog, and a great family dog which is great when you have kids like Linc
@boomzilla868 жыл бұрын
+charmaine hansen but it means theyre lazy and unruly. "love sponge" dogs poop and pee in the house, beg for food, sometimes just taking it. they can hurt you if theyre too big and dont behave. a trained dog is safer, cleaner, more fun to play with, and an actual respectable member of the family.

It's all about positive reinforcement with dogs (and humans)! Pleeeeease don't listen to any dog training advice that you have heard from Cesar Milan. His "training methods" have set dog training back 50 years! There are much more humane & science-based ways to train a dog and build a relationship with them. If you really want to learn about dog training, look up the four quadrants of operant conditioning! Science rules! ❤️

It doesn't matter how old a dog gets, they're smart with commands. It really depends on the dog though. I have 4 American Akitas and they're very hard to train, 2 of them are have just turned 1 year old. And they're quick to understand commands. You just have to be very patient.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DOG TO GO TO THE BATHROOM ON COMMAND: Make sure for the next few weeks that every time she goes to the bathroom, you're with her. If she is about to pee or poop say "Do your business." slowly over time, every time she goes, say those words as she is doing her business, soon enough you wont have to wait for her to go before saying it. WIth my dog we trained her for guide dogs and she ended up retiring so we have her. We just let her out on her own but though she is 9, if we are traveling, we can use that command to our advantage.
@popein20128 жыл бұрын
I live in the South and we never trained our dogs in the 80s. We just made sure they were house trained. We lost a few when they would run out in the street....now that I'm grown up, all the dogs I've had have been fully trained, full knowledge of all commands, and commands specific to the breed (my dogs always have been hunting breeds, much more intelligent). The dogs last a lot longer and are more fun to play with and safer. Have only lost them to old age or divorce. my current dog is a wiener dog/dushound and she was a rescue and came fully trained.
