How does this setup hold up after 5 years? Is it still going ok today? It is a great way to connect barrels on the top side to get the overflow from one barrel to the next one

Thank you for video. I created my own set of water harvesting that hopefully stands the test of time and posted on KZbin.

Excellent video! Thanks for your help. With your advice and how you demonstrated your technique, I have also produced my own rain harvesting here in upstate New York. I created a video that hopefully helps. Thanks again.

I mean if it works for you that is awesome. But why wouldn't you connect them in series at the bottom so the system drains evenly . will the caps pop out if you flip it?

no, you get better hose pressure feeding from one full barrel than four that are 25% full.

Julian that is a good point. He can’t take out unless he put a spigot. Siphoning is fine, but the purpose of doing all of this is to avoid siphoning. This is why you need to do it from the bottom so you can take out the water with just one spigot

You need bulkhead fittings. Those are the way 2 go.

In with any serious amount of rain entering the barrel that tiny hole will not accommodate the overflow. You need much bigger fittings , at least 1 in

You can install a faucet for each barrel.

This has been my confusion. If you link at the top, yes, it is easy to fill but not to drain as when you drain the last one it is over. You then have three full barrels with no movement. If you bought barrels with screw off tops you could easily reach the bottom. The matter of no having pressure when it goes down, how about you put a submersible to a pressure switch in a tee to a pressure tank. Problem solved. NO? tell me why.

I have the same concern, the issue is you cánt drain all water from one barrel.

He doesn't mention. It but in the video behind the barrels there is a hand pump that would go in whichever barrel he plans on emptying 1st. Inconvenient? Maybe. But that seems to be his plan

Audio is as important as video! While the content information is priceless if your audience can barely hear you then...... it's a marginal win. Therefoe, knock it out the park next time by vimproving your audio quality.

Not necessary. Simply syphon (using hose or copper pipe) from one barrel to the next via holes in the screw caps. Simple. Done it for years.
@glumGlumm

That seem like a waste of time. When you add the connection on the bottom its done. If its for drinking then yes go with syphon system but still a waste of time. 🤪

Supposed to connect them 4 in from the bottom not printers from the top you have it backwards

Prob not going to get a big response but a bunch of smart ass comments but I need help I think I’m over thinking this process I’m going to do. I am burying 8-12 food grade cleaned 55 gallon drums. Used to store water not for drinking but non potable uses, things like cooking with it(boiling first) for instance. I need to figure out how I can hook them all up daisy chain style, as so they fill evenly and Drain evenly when I take water out. 1st drum will hv a 12vDC car battery powered cylindrical shaped pump dropped into 1st tank, wired to 12v car battery connected to a solar panel to keep charged. Trying to figure out a way I can plumb them all together as to fill evenly(if even possible), and a way to pile them together as so I can pull water outta 1st tank and the water level in all tanks will drop at the same time same level. Thinking about putting 3 different holes in each tank top middle bottom, that way they all drain from each hole and when below 1/3 full I can pull water from bottom of tanks out of 1st tank. Digging 12 bi level 3’x3’ platforms for each drum to set on is kinda dangerous cause after 8th barrel I’m getting pretty deep, if I was going to pull from last tank. Kind if using gravity to fill each tank, I want water level all even at same time. Any help greatly appreciated
