I also went off to Gerudo Desert first! It's such a strange concept that Gerudo Desert, a location ordinarily intended to be a late game area, is one of the first areas you visit in this game! Don't forget to check the descriptions of all the echoes you pick up! You may find you're capable of doing more than you realise! And don't sleep on Tri's ability to grab/move objects! It's incredibly useful almost everywhere and may save you having to make a bunch of echoes to reach something!

The Sheikah symbol has been around since Ocarina of Time, for the record. Also, the map imitates, but is not identical to, the map from A Link to the Past.
