WAITWAITWAIT I JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY. Probably wrong, but when Adam goes into the basement with 6 or The Intruder, the Alternate in the spirit box says that, "no one is coming to help you", and "nobody knows where you are". In an unlisted Mandela episode, Sarah calls Mark asking if everything is okay, but she doesn't directly visit. Could be because she couldn't drive, or maybe because no one knows where Mark is. Plus, notice the voice change. When the Alternate stops talking in its distorted human voice, it says, in a more robotic voice, "Do you understand". That could be 6 directly asking Adam if he understands that he's just like the voice in the box, and the Alternate just using its previous mockery used to get Mark to kill himself.

I'm pretty sure that's not what actually might have happened. There's no way 6 would choose Mark out of all people to use as a mockery against Adam. He had thousand other victims too.
