Two double feature ideas: Bug(1975) and Bug(2006): Two completely unrelated movies that happen to have the same title, and both in their own way deal with themes of madness and paranoia. The Fog(1980) and The Mist(2007): Theme is obvious.

I like that the book being written in The Shining isn't just the phrase filling up every page in its entirety, there are paragraphs & blocks that make it feel like an actual novel.

Apparently, Stanley Kubrick's secretary spent weeks (possibly months) typing "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" over and over again. I'm getting carpal tunnel syndrome just from thinking about it.

@@lorddrayvon1426 I know this is possibly a joke but bc I know some ppl genuinely dont realize how far tech has come I'm gonna answer seriously, so: nope. The Shining came out in 1980, which means it was in production during the late 70s (probably '78 or '79, since the novel came out in '77). In those days computers were crude and expensive even for the time, so they were a huge luxury, with far less functionality than modern computers. The *were* mostly used for word processing, but that didn't mean much; the word processing software of those days was crude, so something like ctrl+v was out of the question. Even if ctrl+v was an option... well, Kubrick was the sort of man who was an extreme perfectionist, to the extent he would push his cast and crew to extremes for the "vision".... including making someone type a stack of papers with the same phrase over and over which steadily get more and more crazed and wild, because the same effect couldn't be replicated with a 1970s word processing computer and printer. edit: to correct myself, since i looked it up today: crtl+v was invented somewhere around the mid-70s by the late Larry Testler, and wasnt standard on all computer models at the time, but i stand by the statement that Kubrick still would have done it his way even if it were an option

15:01 - 15:17 I remember when I watched Upgrade (2018), and the ending that had a very similar twist with "was it all just a dream" angle, and then the rug gets pulled put from under us with the reality, with the villain claiming that a fake world is less painful than the real one, and that the main character is better off there while the villain is in control. Kinda the opposite sentiment of this movie.

Love the wheel at the end to show what the next theme is. The new indent at the end is fitting. Only thing I might critique is that either your camera or your computer is visible in the reflection on the blue part of the glasses. Not a problem, but something to be aware of.

Personally, I would've paired 1408 with Oculus for the similarity between the type of evil both Room 1408 and the Lasser Glass possess: they're both a completely unknown evil that fuck with the perception of their victims to kill them--or, better yet, get them to kill themselves--that can't prevent outside forces (in the room's case shows that, while you can't escape from inside, the firemen were able to break down the door from the outside; the mirror wasn't able to prevent someone from being knocked into it nor prevent the large heavy anchor hanging in front of it from crashing into it), both have ways of using their massive victim pool to influence their current target (and in both cases intercept phone calls to those outside its influence or using psychological warfare to fuck with their victims; Michael's daughter and Kaylie's mother for instance), and both movies have similar scenes of someone using their an amassed collection of photographs, research notes, and other information to warn of how dangerous the haunted thing in question is by explaining how their victims either died or suffered some type of mutilation. Again, Evil Hotel Room and Evil Mirror aren't exactly a 1 to 1 replica and I'm not saying not. The parallels could be drawn to connect the two in similar ways, however.

What really sells this show is picking a variety of horror films and their sub-genres, and not just going for the low hanging fruit of standard Horror Host schlockfests. Not that those kinds of films wouldn't be appreciated on a series like this, but going with a Steven King theme really elevates the series concept.

I liked this and feel like they're getting better. I like the spinning wheel in this one. I like that this one had a theme( and those future ones will have a theme). As for critiques, I would populate the background more, I would also play up that 3-D glasses thing a lot more. I would add more red and blue things in the background or maybe more horror stuff in the background (the mummy figure is looking lonely and I love how your other set is superpopulated with things ). I would also play up the left and right sides since the right is red and the left is blue. Like once you start talking about the other movie things shift to blue or red. Like the critical part is cool, but like have fun with the premise a bit more like it's a haunted set, like even something like the red tickets changing to blue ones off-screen would be neat( cause I know those admit one tickets come in different colors.

I live near the Stanley Hotel, which was the inspiration for the Overlook Hotel. It's a very pretty building both outside and in. That said, being as it too is in a somewhat out of the way town, Estes Park, in the mountains I can definitely see the inspiration for the horror elements. It's in the middle of the town, but the lawn surrounding it gives it enough room that it appears solitary, as if nothing else exists for miles. It was also used in the movie Dumb and Dumber. lol

As for the movies discussed I've been meaning to watch the Shining and 1408 seems like it could be a good watch, although from what the comments have said it seems that the version with the theatrical ending is not readily available so it might be some time before I get the chance. As for feedback -Like the theme song -Like the choice of colors for the set. -Like the sign to the side -The set as of now sort of gives of the vibes that you're at the front counter of a very small movie theater, gives off a mix of spooky and cozy. The room does seem to be a bit empty though, maybe get some more props to set for the sides like a projector.

Evil Ventriloquist Dummy Night, and comparing Dead of Night's The Ventriloquist's Dummy (1945) starring Michael Redgrave, to Magic (1978) starring Anthony Hopkins! Or if you really wanna stretch it even though it's a bit flawed and dull in the character department and twist ending, but still had potential with the premise, style, atmosphere, and delivery, Dead Silence (2007), a guilty pleasure of mine with James Wan movies.

While I never got around to reading the book, I am aware of most of the differences between the movie and original text. I love how the movie managed to be a direct sequel to the movie, including flashbacks from the actual original film and close as they possibly could get casting for new footage, but also managed to have elements of the book as well. I especially loved the actor playing Scatman Crother's character. I really hope that if they ever make that Hong Kong Phooey movie, or at least make a follow up to Bumblebee that contains the character of Jazz they give that guy a call.

In the original short story, a big part of the horror comes from how being in the room itself affects Mike's way of thinking as well as his sensory perceptions. Like, being in the room makes him think horrifying thoughts and make him feel displaced in time and space, in addition to things like the paintings changing, the phone blaring out unnerving messages in an inhuman voice and a room service menu that changes every time he blinks. Just being in the room is like being stuck in a chamber filling with toxic gas. But because of that, not a lot actually physically happens to Mike in the room, so I think it was wise to rework the basic premise like the movie did.

Well I wasn't expecting this. I thought the show was gonna be about less known movies and BMovies. This is awesome

The show's about horror in general, plus the occasional really well known movie will help the algorithm find it. =)

Big King fan and 1408 (the film) was well done. Cusack and Mr Jackson really add a gravitas to the movie that the book lacks I feel. The Shining I preferred Kubrick’s take, and Dr Sleep was a nice follow up. Really hoping the Darktower books get a long form TV series. Thanks again for the content.

1408 is 1 of those movies that I had no expectation for whatsoever and once I saw the trailer And heard the synopsis I thought it was gonna suck right out loud. Then I gave it a fair chance because it had Mr. Samuel L. Jackson.1 of the most surprisingly good horror movies I've ever seen.

Kind of bummed the Kubrick adaptation didn't include the topiary animals. That could have been really chilling or really goofy.

Apparently they just couldn't figure out how to make it look convincing, so they went with the hedge maze instead. Honestly I think it's better, anyway.

Honestly, i love the more supernatural elements in the book version of The Shining. Plus the ending was much better, with the hotel blowing up cause Jack didn't do his job

I figured that the nonsense layout of the hotel isn’t a hundred percent literal. It’s less of a thing that the hotel just does, and more of a subliminal trick to keep you off balance, because you subconsciously realize that this just doesn’t make sense.

1408 is a favorite of mine and I think one of the most underrated horror films there is. I even got John Cusack to sign my Blu-ray copy and unfortunately is one of my worst autograph experiences I’ve had to date. John Cusack came to Dragon con and after a while you realized he honestly didn’t want to be there. When I got to his line it was actually very short I thought most people would have more time with him. But the line was being moved extremely fast even though there was maybe a dozen people In at the time. And this wasn’t that the autograph time was ending it actually has just began. So yeah they’re rushing us and he sitting there in all black with a baseball cap pulled down over his head again it was really obvious that he kind of didn’t want to be there. When it was my turn I got him to sign it they wrote my name down on a post it like normal I said hi I enjoyed this film very much 1408 How many of us works but before I could even ask him a simple question I was already being ushered away for the people next in line which again was maybe at the time of seven or eight people. And the autograph itself was just pour his signature And my name really miss spelled only four letters and it began with an R with my name beginning with a B. Apparently I found out later that he was also very demanding not wanting to come out of the line unless there was at least 30 people there or something so yeah to this day that is the worst autograph session I’ve had
