Two double feature ideas: Bug(1975) and Bug(2006): Two completely unrelated movies that happen to have the same title, and both in their own way deal with themes of madness and paranoia. The Fog(1980) and The Mist(2007): Theme is obvious.

@@lorddrayvon1426 I know this is possibly a joke but bc I know some ppl genuinely dont realize how far tech has come I'm gonna answer seriously, so: nope. The Shining came out in 1980, which means it was in production during the late 70s (probably '78 or '79, since the novel came out in '77). In those days computers were crude and expensive even for the time, so they were a huge luxury, with far less functionality than modern computers. The *were* mostly used for word processing, but that didn't mean much; the word processing software of those days was crude, so something like ctrl+v was out of the question. Even if ctrl+v was an option... well, Kubrick was the sort of man who was an extreme perfectionist, to the extent he would push his cast and crew to extremes for the "vision".... including making someone type a stack of papers with the same phrase over and over which steadily get more and more crazed and wild, because the same effect couldn't be replicated with a 1970s word processing computer and printer. edit: to correct myself, since i looked it up today: crtl+v was invented somewhere around the mid-70s by the late Larry Testler, and wasnt standard on all computer models at the time, but i stand by the statement that Kubrick still would have done it his way even if it were an option

Personally, I would've paired 1408 with Oculus for the similarity between the type of evil both Room 1408 and the Lasser Glass possess: they're both a completely unknown evil that fuck with the perception of their victims to kill them--or, better yet, get them to kill themselves--that can't prevent outside forces (in the room's case shows that, while you can't escape from inside, the firemen were able to break down the door from the outside; the mirror wasn't able to prevent someone from being knocked into it nor prevent the large heavy anchor hanging in front of it from crashing into it), both have ways of using their massive victim pool to influence their current target (and in both cases intercept phone calls to those outside its influence or using psychological warfare to fuck with their victims; Michael's daughter and Kaylie's mother for instance), and both movies have similar scenes of someone using their an amassed collection of photographs, research notes, and other information to warn of how dangerous the haunted thing in question is by explaining how their victims either died or suffered some type of mutilation. Again, Evil Hotel Room and Evil Mirror aren't exactly a 1 to 1 replica and I'm not saying not. The parallels could be drawn to connect the two in similar ways, however.

As for critiques, I would populate the background more, I would also play up that 3-D glasses thing a lot more. I would add more red and blue things in the background or maybe more horror stuff in the background (the mummy figure is looking lonely and I love how your other set is superpopulated with things ). I would also play up the left and right sides since the right is red and the left is blue. Like once you start talking about the other movie things shift to blue or red. Like the critical part is cool, but like have fun with the premise a bit more like it's a haunted set, like even something like the red tickets changing to blue ones off-screen would be neat( cause I know those admit one tickets come in different colors.

While I never got around to reading the book, I am aware of most of the differences between the movie and original text. I love the prose version of 1408, but I can definitely understand why they changed it up like they did. In the original short story, a big part of the horror comes from how being in the room itself affects Mike's way of thinking as well as his sensory perceptions. Like, being in the room makes him think horrifying thoughts and make him feel displaced in time and space, in addition to things like the paintings changing, the phone blaring out unnerving messages in an inhuman voice and a room service menu that changes every time he blinks. Just being in the room is like being stuck in a chamber filling with toxic gas. But because of that, not a lot actually physically happens to Mike in the room, so I think it was wise to rework the basic premise like the movie did.

1408 is a favorite of mine and I think one of the most underrated horror films there is. I even got John Cusack to sign my Blu-ray copy and unfortunately is one of my worst autograph experiences I’ve had to date. John Cusack came to Dragon con and after a while you realized he honestly didn’t want to be there. When I got to his line it was actually very short I thought most people would have more time with him. But the line was being moved extremely fast even though there was maybe a dozen people In at the time. And this wasn’t that the autograph time was ending it actually has just began. So yeah they’re rushing us and he sitting there in all black with a baseball cap pulled down over his head again it was really obvious that he kind of didn’t want to be there. When it was my turn I got him to sign it they wrote my name down on a post it like normal I said hi I enjoyed this film very much 1408 How many of us works but before I could even ask him a simple question I was already being ushered away for the people next in line which again was maybe at the time of seven or eight people. And the autograph itself was just pour his signature And my name really miss spelled only four letters and it began with an R with my name beginning with a B. Apparently I found out later that he was also very demanding not wanting to come out of the line unless there was at least 30 people there or something so yeah to this day that is the worst autograph session I’ve had

Here's a suggestion: "A Bucket of Blood" and "Chopping Mall": two horror movies featuring Dick Miller playing characters both named Walter Paisley

Very informative on both parts.

Now this is a double feature I definitely enjoy. Both Shining and 1408 are such great movies.

Brilliant episode. Also, if you like The Shining, I’d also recommend Doctor Sleep. It’s a sequel to the Shining and its fantastic.
