I recall in anticipation for the Seige event comic, Marvel did a weekly look back at the events leading up to it on their KZbin. When they went over this event, Bendis admitted, "Yeah I thought I was doing something novel and ambitious, but I ended up being the kid destroying sand castles and toys on the playground, sorry..."

I genuinely think this series is a fascinating experiment. It shows just how different the movies could have been. I think Mr. Lucas did a great job streamlining these ideas, but it's still a lot of fun to essentially see the beta of a finished product!

Imagine the world where this is what the movie actually was.

I think Avengers Disassembled is one of the first runs that got me into the Avengers. Yeah, continuity sucks, but I think having a big story where characters get killed and the status quo is blown up rather worked for me because I wasn't aware of the continuity issues. In contrast I HATED Children's Crusade. I HATED that they were trying to say, "Nope! She didn't do anything!" What I compare this to is Hal Jordan becoming Parallax. Hero turns evil, the continuity is not entirely clear, there is a lot of destruction... and then years later they walk it back by saying they were manipulated by a big bad. I did not like Hal being absolved then either.

I loved Samurai as kid but hated Megaforce! But at the same time even when I was little I did used to watch power rangers all the on jetix! Oh Goodie! Infinity Crusade; the one where some Rule 63 Adam Warlock brainwashes half the Marvel Universe into being her sex slaves-I mean, converts. Okay, all jokes aside, it's really weird how Waldron ended up doing the exact same thing as Bendis with MOM; turn Wanda into a villain off-screen (or in this case, off-panel) while ignoring pervious continuity. All because he wanted to show off how cool he thinks he is! Gag me!

This started a long period of an event to three events in Marvel every year, and it set the tone firmly that they would be bleak, pointless, and involve every single hero turning on one another for flimsy reasons. While I don't think we're completely out of the woods yet, I notice Marvel is STARTING to remember that these events used to involve heroes, y'know, working together against an unstoppable foe.

Gotta say, bringing back a character that hasn’t been seen years just to kill them really rubs me the wrong way

This entire story feels like "and then this happened, and then THIS happened, and then this happened, and then THIS happened, and then this also happened, and then THIS happened", I know some of that is just the effect of having to summarize so much, but around 30 minutes in I was thinking "wow, that's a lot of setup for just one story, how much time is left on the review?" Only to be shocked when I saw it was two thirds over, and I was just forced to ask myself... "what is this story's THROUGHLINE!?" Yeah, it has a vague theme of "a bad day" and some attempt at a mystery, but... and, like... a lot of event comics have an issue with setting up plot-points that are only relevant to tie-ins, but HERE I'm shocked that Linkara didn't include the "dad what is the point of this story?" "I like stories" line from the Simpsons. I mean once you know what the ultimate answer to the story is, it's just "oh, a basically omnipotent being was fucking with people in random and chaotic ways". Like, the story is unsalvageable. Maybe you could use good storyTELLING (a non-linear narrative, for example), but the core story is just... it's nothing. It's random shit and then an explanation and then it's over.

They should use the mutant cures on Wanda
