You forgot the Certifications they add to your profile. It can be downloaded and printed. There are also courses that satisfy CE (Continuing Education) credits for PMI, Business Analysis Association?, Etc.

I have completed one on Ed X (paid $45.00) that was Tough to get uploaded certificate. If you are taking courses as a linked in premium member, as soon as you are no longer a “premium member” your courses will disappear, along with your premium network. Probably too much information, but doesn’t hurt to elaborate.

Just letting you know that there could possibly be a 3rd option: free linkedin learning through your local/state library. I live in NY, and given that every single person in NY pays 8 dollars a year in taxes for the largest public library in the country, we get lots of benefits for that 8 dollars. The only thing is that a surprising amount of new yorkers don't know about this. Either way, many library systems besides the NYPL offer free courses and subscriptions. Most offer things like lynda or linkedin learning/ mango languages/ rocket languages/ ebooks / in-person library courses and more. ;)

"Udemy with pant suits" - worth it just for that comparison! 😃 I've got a soft spot for LinkedIn Learning. I do get free access to it, but I find it a useful format and pretty smooth. I seem to recall old days, probably the Lynda era, where it was pretty much "get started with Excel" and "intermediate Excel" etc. The technical level of content wasn't great. It's actually pretty good now, with the caveat, as you say, it's mostly watch, next, watch, next, watch... And always check out the relevance of the technical topics.

Definitely deserves a higher grade, it can be free for students or through public services and certs can be tied to your LinkedIn account or printed. This is a plus, especially since you can form connections with employers because of LinkedIn and it's Job Board.

I use LinkedIn Learning as podcast for my work commutes. The courses are easy enough to follow without having to pay much attention to the screen. Otherwise, they are brief summaries of the topics.

On LinkedIn Learning, I learned how to completely "no-code" MS-Access to create a database of our personnel and publish it in such a way that it didn't look anything at all like MS-Access. It was cool, I guess.

I think much of its use is for those that are already familiar with a particular concept... IDK, say MS-Outlook, and then take a few courses so you can then know 98% more than anyone else. Mail Merge comes to mind. We had to get semi-individualized letters out to 300 personnel, and I taught the HR fam how to do that in a few keystrokes. In fact, I'm completely shocked at both the level of ignorance everyone, and their unwillingness to seek out the knowledge.

I'm currently subscribed to linkedin learning too. The good thing about this is you know the instructors are experts in their field because you can see their own linkedin profile. Do you use a different learning platform? It's just that I think most of the topics here only scratches the surface. Do you think so too?

Echoing Dominic: Something I want anyone who watches this to see: In my experience some public libraries, schools, and even some jobs offer free access to LinkedIn Learning. It's well worth getting a library card to get access and start adding free completion certs to your LinkedIn profile. You're also able to make a small donation to some large libraries and get access to their resources for a year. Happy learning!

Can your review the CS50 courses by Harvard? I started one, it's amazing, more people should know about it! It's free (except if you want a certificate). I'm doing the Computer Science course and I'm blown away. Where I am, they have a lot of great exercises where you code in C, and using commands you check your code functionality and style via their servers. Then you get a grade when submitting, and you can resubmit your work whenever you want. It feels like their is a teacher correcting me sort of. The teachers and their lessons are also the best.

Probably Udemy. Udemy’s courses are purchased A-la-cart and can be as low as $11/class. Though, more commonly $20/class. But just like all other platforms, they have outdate courses too.

The problem I have with LI Learning is that a lot of courses feel so "robot-like". They are "too" perfect with great lighting, great clothes, great backgrounds and great reading from a great script. I want a course to have personality with a down to earth teacher, not a corporate guy that has done 50 courses on how to present like a pro. Are the others course sites like this or are they more "natural"? I'm thinking of Skillshare, Udemy etc.

I don't think they care. It might show that you put effort to further educate yourself, but a recruiter is more interested how you apply your skill. Maybe showing your skills on a portfolio website, thought take this advice with a grain of salt. I am just guessing here.

I believe that having certs on my LinkedIn profile helped me get a job I wanted, though the LinkedIn learning completion certs weren't the only ones I had. I MIGHT add one course to my resume if it needed content in a direction that I wanted. But I DO heap the completion certs onto my LinkedIn profile as soon as I complete the courses. In my experience, courses I've been taken so far don't usually get extremely technical, but they are great for introducing you to concepts and considerations in a field / subject / industry you want to learn about.
