The amount of work as a sound engineer & mixer that Mike Shinoda put in is so understated, and the fact he doesn't tout it like, at all, shows the humility of this man. Literally he made that band, he shaped & molded Chester, and was the glue of the band all along.

For real. And that's to say nothing of the way he has shouldered the responsibility of maintaining the connection with the fans over the past 5 or 6 years.

100% Shinoda is the GOAT and is probably the most underrated everything ever. I didn't even fully get into LP until after Fort Minor (The Rising Tied remains my favorite album of all time) and that was because I finally understood that Shinoda WAS/IS Linkin Park, period.

I didn't realize until this anniversary how much input he had... even during his second solo era a few years back! He's now writing with other artists and I can hear so much of his DNA and thus Linkin Park's in the new songs he's just put out with them (one with Demi Lovato, another with Kailee Morgue). It suddenly made me more appreciative of his role in the band than I had in the past two decades.

It's so heartwarming to see any of them together. One of the reasons I love these guys so much is because they're so humble and down to earth. They were kids when they broke out in 2000 and they're still kids now in a sense. They haven't changed a bit in how they present themselves and act and it's something to admire. Just listening to them talk and recall memories is such a warming thing. So much love for this band and Meteora

Well its important to remember, they HAVENT broken up. They aren't looking for a new singer but if something ever feels right, it could happen. Of course Chester can never be replaced and itd be a new direction, but if they ever get the inspiration or find someone they click with, I'd love for them to continue. As much as I love Chester, Mike is the true mastermind behind most their music and I'm sure Chester would want them to keep making art.

I love Chester and the influence he had was unreal. But I think acknowledging the immense effort Mike Shinoda put into making LP what they were, is a must. A lot of the fanbase loves praising Chester but forgets to give Mike his due respect. Chester was the face of LP no doubt, but none of it would exist without Mike, he was the true brains behind it all. We as fans should give him his flowers while he's here.

I have to say, this is by far the best interviewer I have ever seen. I have never seen an interviewer have such a genuine connection with artists like this, and be able to bring out the true humanity out of artists like this. He touched on vulnerable subjects without going too far, he steered the conversation naturally where they wanted it to be steered in, all the while expressing true, authentic love and interest for their music. I didn’t sense a single moment of “fakeness” from this interviewer. Absolutely phenomenal interviewing skills, 10/10. As a huge Linkin Park fan, I’ve seen countless interviews with the band, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen them this comfortable, and this open.

I agree. I've actually just recently started listening to Linkin Park again. At the time losing Chester was too much, was painful especially since I grew up listening to these dudes. Helped me in my dark moments, but it hurt because it was all over. It hurt because the thing that had used to help take the pain away was now a source of pain. Still feel the occasional nostalgic pain but definitely able to listen to them again, and it feels good to not only to have the rest of the band but the fans and a new release with ya. I can definitely say I am happy to have been alive during this group's time in the sun.

It took me a few years as well. My first album was actually Live In Texas, which I would sing my heart out with my cousin who lived a block away from me. This band is the very first reason I'm a musician. It wasn't until a few months ago, I talked to a friend on a podcast he has (that I used to edit) and I mentioned it, and then he asked me to run down the album sometime on the future. I did it a few weeks ago and though the audio was obviously edited the experience for me was filled with tears and laughs and sadness and joy. Quite a rollercoaster. After that, it was kind of opening this old box and putting things on display again, this time on the living room, with pride.

I remember when I first saw One Step Closer, I was like "pffttt, who are these posers with red hair and hanging up side down". Then some time went by - and I didn't have a radio or anything back then, the school bus didn't have a radio - so my first listen was always through the music videos. One day, a song comes on within like 15 seconds there's this sound break that was an incredible sound that till this day I don't know what it is except that it might be from the guitar, and then BOOM! the chorus hits and they're all in like this bullet time (which was all the hype back then) sort of movement which goes with the chorus' rhythm. It truly awakened something inside of me musically. Even though I was already listening to Slipknot the prior year and grew up on Michael Jackson, I truly fell in love with music and became a rocker after Crawling.

This album has come at the perfect time in my life and I'm so grateful for these guys that have all been part of my life ❤❤

This is curing childhood trauma right now. I'm so glad to hear so many things about the band that we didn't know. I could never understand these guys' grinding to get where they are. All in all, it's safe to say that obviously, it was all worth it. Can never forget this band.

The moment I heard about Chester’s death, I stopped listening to LP until recently. I just now started revisiting all their albums. I couldn’t listen to his voice and lyrics, because they turned into thorns. I couldn’t listen to Chester’s pain because I started realizing he was really hurting and I couldn’t relive his pain over and over. But now so much time has passed and I can listen to these songs and lyrics again and they don’t hurt as much as they did when he passed. I just got older and accepted the loss of my favorite musician and person in the show biz. I didn’t know him in person but felt like I knew him through his performances, interviews, behind the scenes and the band’s stories about him. The more I listen to their songs and watch interviews with Chester the more I feel like his is still around. My mind is playing tricks on me but I will never let him go ❤ By the way, not even one celebrity death affected me like Chester’s death did. It’s insane!

Knowing Mike said the 5 of them are working on music together again (no planned soon releases though) and the fact that they feel like Lost and this sound is still so relevant today and they are loving rediscovering these songs makes me hope, that while unlikely, we will see them try to be creative with this sound and instead of reinventing the band again, we will get one album first (or later) of them reinventing this sound and pushing the blueprint even further than they did with Meteora

Thank you for the interview. The band will always rock. True LP fan. I loved the stories about the album. My favorite part of this interview is at 25:37 that got me emotional was the story about the Record Label trying to steal Chester away from the band and Chester telling them to "Go F*** yourself". That was the best and saddest thing I heard in a long time. That's what true friends do. Stick up for your friends and I'm glad each of you had each other's backs.

Not gonna lie, it was so nice seeing Brad and Phoenix again, as well as Mike. I hope Joe and Rob are doing well, and this is probably one of few interviews that I actually sat down and watched. This album was my favorite back in high school, and I'm still listening to it at 33. I'm glad we also got to hear little stories about Chester too. Thank you LP for everything, and I'll forever be a fan

My first memory of Linkin Park was watching a TV ad promoting Hybrid Theory with Chester screaming at the camera singing Crawling.. I was out of my mind. After that I had a mixed relationship with their music with love and hate at the same time, but always I respect them musically no matter what. Times passes by little while and I became super fan finally in the process. I just understand his movement after all I must say. Meteora is a great album work too and I'm so glad hearing those stories of Chester watching the back of the band when people was so bad with the rest of them at that time. LP 4ever.

Chester was a great performer and had a great voice. Certain parts of songs were heavy and he gave it his all, same with slow ones that required finesse and feeling, he could do that too, he played his part brilliantly. I think Crawling was the song that shot you to the masses. A thousand suns is still way ahead of its time, its a beautiful story, with a powerful message and music you can dream too. I loved the tour of that album watching the videos on stage accompanying your live performance.

How can it be that someone i didn't meet, know or talk to could have such an impact on my life and soul. I'm in my 50's and love LP from the beginning. Chester touched millions of people in the world, yet left us all way to early. I miss him everyday, i wished that I or someone could of helped him in his dark moments and stopped him from leaving all his family and LP soldiers who adored him.
