Thank you for your excellent explanation on "seem." I always have problems learning to use "seem" in a sentence. For anyone confused about using "seem," my video wrap-up is as follows. 1. English seems (to be) very difficult to learn. 2. It seems that (It would seem that) English is very difficult to learn for many students. [polite] 3. English seems to be the most difficult subject to learn. [seem to be + noun, linking verb] 4. Thomas seems to speak English very well. (He is a secondary school student.) [seem to base-verb] 5. Thomas seems to be teaching his friends English after class. (one of his classmates passed by the classroom.) [+ to be ving] 6. Thomas seems to have finished the test earlier than his classmate did. (students were taking the midterm exam last month.) [to have p.p.]

I always mixed up seems & seems to be, someone told me ‘seems a manager’ is incorrect, it should be ‘seems to be a manager’, the latter is more suitable to describe a situation. I can’t catch up his meaning for situation, but now, your explanation is much more clear, the reason is ‘seems to be’ should be followed by a noun phase. Thanks Andrew

Hi, there! I found the lesson on the verb "seem" very thorough; I think it would be great if you can make another one with another verbs that are very similar : "look" & "look like"; in fact, in one of the examples you use one of these ( in the example of the cat being hungry: "... we can also say that "the cat looks like he's hungry." Thanks a lot in advance. Best wishes.

Hi ,Teacher thank you for amazing lesson you have done for us. I have been watching your lesson, since I came in London. The first time I have watched this lesson I did not notice a little detail in this video. But today , I started to watch again the same lesson, and I noticed that something caught my attention. When the Teacher said: The verb Seem does not have a continuous form, similar to see, sound, smell, taste, and hear. I noticed that an less these verbs some of them usually it comes with continuous form in the newspapers, emails I have been receiving, letters etc. For instance, can I say: Smelling? Or seeing, tasting, hearing ? Because I have already seen these words in letters. Is it grammatically wrong? Can say that , or write them ? That’s my questions. Thank you for your attention. I have to say that, today I can speak and write in English with great confidence, because of you. My first language is Portuguese but I enjoy watching your lesson, I have been learning a lot from you. Thank you very much.
