I'm a 34 year old guy who grew up in LP's prime period. As a teen I fell in love with Chester's singing. I have dozens of favorite singers from many genres, but Chester is something else, man. Imagine being a teenager and listening to Chester's furious, frustrated and emotional and meaningful hybrid screams, speaking up and fighting so hard to be heard for you.

They aren't letting it die. New covers come out every month from upcoming youtube starts. Their own styles, their own story behind it, but the soul of Chester and the Linkin Park left untouched and very much alive. Just came from Haloce x Orlandi - New Divide cover, but Jonathan Young's Breaking the Habit is also beautiful.

At 66 years old, I've heard a lot of music, fell in love with a lot of music. And in these 66 years, there are some voices that are so distinct and so unforgettable that there's no mistaking who they are. David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Mark Hollis, Eddie Vedder, and Chester Bennington. I know I'm forgetting a few, but, these stand out to me the most. They can't be duplicated. After today, Linkin Park won't be the same again. My friend next door kept asking why I was staring at my screen blankly. When I told him what happened, I was told how it's just a band. Then I said how it's not just that. How it is so much more. How I grew up on his music. How I did the countless assignments with his voice blaring through the earphones. How I planned to watch Linkin Park live, just once. And how I won't be able to do so, now. Their music changed and took different shapes and forms, but I loved what they did. I loved the nostalgia associated with their music. I grew up listening to their music. Listening to Chester's voice. From One Step Closer, his first official single for Linkin Park to the last track of One More Light, Sharp Edges. We won't hear Chester's crooning again. Ever. Let that sink in. The guy who sang so many songs which hold a permanent spot in the playlist is gone. From Numb to Breaking The Habit to all the Transformer's tracks. Watching Linkin Park live, watching Chester live, was one of the things I had on my bucket-list, and it makes me sad in the stomach that I won't be able to do it. Ever. I feel robbed of one of the once-in-a-lifetime things. As if someone snatched something from me. I always waited for the credits to roll just to hear that one song by him. No Transformer movie will have his voice. Ever again. Chester, we will miss you. I will miss you. I hope it's peaceful there, wherever that is. Love, One of the millions of Linkin Park fans whose love wasn't enough to make you stay.

Linkin Park’s “New Divide” is a song steeped in emotion and metaphor. At its core, it’s about separation, change, and the struggle to reconcile with past events. The song illustrates a person grappling with memories and the desire for redemption or closure. It’s not about a specific person but more about the universal experience of facing life’s divides and the emotional turmoil that comes with it. The song was written for the movie “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” which adds an extra layer of intensity and drama. However, its universal themes make it resonate beyond the film’s context, touching on the human experience of facing and overcoming personal challenges.

Even though he is gone he will forever live in our sparks. We would be gone if it weren’t for him, so must honor our fallen comrade. Our hero and savior is a legend who will never die, and he is more to us than meets the eye. I am Optimus Prime, and I send this message to any grieving humans and Autobots out there listening to this among the mountains and the stars: Chester is here, and he will forever be so.

[Verse 1] I remembered black skies The lightning all around me I remembered each flash As time began to blur Like a startling sign That fate had finally found me And your voice was all I heard That I get what I deserve [Chorus] So give me reason To prove me wrong To wash this memory clean Let the floods cross The distance in your eyes Give me reason To fill this hole Connect this space between Let it be enough to reach the truth that lies Across this new divide [Verse 2] There was nothing in sight But memories left abandoned There was nowhere to hide The ashes fell like snow And the ground caved in Between where we were standing And your voice was all I heard That I get what I deserve [Chorus] So give me reason To prove me wrong To wash this memory clean Let the floods cross The distance in your eyes Across this new divide [Bridge] In every loss in every lie In every truth that you deny And each regret and each goodbye Was a mistake too great to hide And your voice was all I heard That I get what I deserve [Chorus] So give me reason To prove me wrong To wash this memory clean Let the floods cross The distance in your eyes Give me reason To fill this hole Connect this space between Let it be enough to reach the truth that lies Across this new divide Across this new divide Across this new divide
