Happy Lunar New Year! 🎈🐯🎈 Loved seeing this. I watched the shopping section twice just so I didn't miss anything, lol. We have discovered this before, but it's surprising to find ingredients that I can find fairly easily here in the USA but you can't there in Japan, when it's usually the opposite. In the video, you said you couldn't get water chestnuts. I am not sure if they are the same, but canned water chestnuts are available in the ethnic aisle of every supermarket I have ever been in here and have been for decades. My mother used to buy them in the rural south at least as far back as the 1970s because she always added them to chop suey. Yet, the reverse is true for mushrooms. Most grocery stores here only offer white or brown button mushrooms. But, I can find Lee Kum Kee sauces, like your plum sauce, along with at least one type of Lao Gan Ma, at my regular grocery. But, to get other kinds of mushrooms requires a special trip to an Asian grocery store. Maybe one day shokupan and a few other types of mushrooms will be common here, too. Your dinner looked very delicious! I love seafood and fish and the Prosperity Pot seemed incredible as well. YUM! I feel certain your family had a delicious and memorable holiday. Have a wonderful week!
@LinnainJapan
@LinnainJapan 2 жыл бұрын
Wow! You have access to Lao Gan ma and the Plum sauce too! Here is Japan most supermarkets carry Chinese and Korean condiments and sauces. But very limited. Just a few popular types. The plum sauce I have looked for many shops in China town and finally found it 😅 and I have never seen canned water chestnut here any where even China town! Japanese Shokupan and mushrooms are really good! But I am not sure is it possible to bring them to your market because they are both fresh products that have very short shelf life. Perhaps learning to bake the Japanese shokupan will be a faster way? 😅 Thank you for sharing the insight of the difference groceries you get! I totally agree and had fun reading 🤗💛💛💛

The quality of your produce over there is intensely impressive. I wince with shame to reflect upon the offerings in UK supermarkets. Nobody here appears to be ashamed of their 5th rate garbage on display for sale-- that's because it's the same as every other supermarket's produce and if nobody else is embarrassed then why should I be, right? It's become 'the norm' and our standards in general are sliding down fast as a society. Fresh produce here is mostly tasteless, bruised, ugly, limp, manhandled garbage. I miss you Japan and I can't wait to return! Thank you Linna for these charming, inspiring, relaxing videos. Educational and very motivational too. I will keep working overtime, forgoing big shopping trips and keep being disciplined in saving my money. I'll be thrilled to have loads to spend when I'm in Tokyo next. I hope everybody has a wonderful year with big adventures and many quiet little joys too.

lunar意思是“of or relating to or associated with the moon”,是“属于或关于或与月球有关的”,“Lunar New Year”传达的是“月亮的新年”的含义。
