Fun fact: certain rides used to have English names, but they were all renamed in 2004. Here are a few examples: Space Express -> Linnunrata Polyp -> Mustekala Space Shot -> Raketti City Express -> Pikajuna Viking -> Viikinkilaiva Dragon -> Lohikäärme

I love Linnanmäki! It was my home park when I was a child, and I still try to visit the park at least once every year. I haven't been able to visit the park yet this year, but I hope I can make it to the Light Carnival this October. Great review!

Linnunrata eXtra now has VR and you can choose between three different movies. Not the best VR coaster I’ve been in, but it was certainly enjoyable this way. Taiga is one of the best coasters I know, I rode it five times. Such a thrilling ride! The wooden coaster is not very thrilling, but I liked it because of the history, the breakman and the smell of the wood and tar. It felt like going back in time for a while. The spinning coaster didn’t spin a lot the first time I rode it, but the second time it did, and that made it so much more fun!

The old Vuoristorata (RollerCoaster) can be more intense than described here. I haven't been riding it for years but it used to be "main attraction" (at least in my opinion). Maybe the breakmen are more conservative nowadays but as a kid I remember riding it over and over. One time I rode at the back right in front of the break man and I was launched to a standing up position as I was putting my arms up! Yikes! But I think there can be quite a difference between breakmen, at least it used to have.

Your description of the rides you got on Vuoristorata just makes me sad. I have joked with friends before that the lift hill is the fastest portion of the coaster, but rides that bad are rare. In the back you usually get floater on all the drops, and pops of ejector on the small hills next to the station. Front gets very little on the big drops, but also has the best airtime moment on the bunny hill next to the station. On the best rides you can get a full second or two of true airtime - no restraints while you butt leaves the seat. The very best rides can rival Taiga, but the breakman really has to let it loose. I would personally consider those a once in a lifetime experience, as I have gotten one of those in my ~30 visits to the park. I have personally noted that you get better rides when the park is less busy, which might have to do with the amount of trains they are using. With three trains they take it slowly to make sure that they don't reach the next block before the train ahead has left. With two trains they can go as fast as they want with no worries. This is just my theory though, so take it with a grain of salt.
@CanobieCoaster3 жыл бұрын
The ride was running two trains when I visited. I tried the ride both on a sunny and rainy day. I got slow rides in all instances.
@aapee5653 жыл бұрын
@@CanobieCoaster Guess my theory is total bs then :(
@edbrown29983 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, when I went back in 1999 it ran very well, quick through the layout with plenty of airtime. Certainly no stalling around the turns or the brakeman having to get it moving! It was definitely one of my favourite rides from the day I spent there :)

This reminds me of Liseberg, Tivoli Gardens and Elitch Gardens in the sense that they're all located in a big downtown city. It's also the exact opposite of SeaWorld San Antonio. While that park has a lot of space but not a lot of rides, this one has a lot of rides but not a lot of space.

I thought most scenic railway coasters had the breakman stand in the middle of the train, so the fact that he has to stand at the back might have something to do with why it's conservatively run. But I could be wrong.

The one at Wiener Prater also had the brakeman in the back.

I imagine it might get old pretty quickly--unless you're a real people person, then just interacting with all these people through the ride might be nice. I'd guess that part of the job is to read the crowd and figure out what they might like, because you actually have some control over how intense the ride is going to be.
