One such example is that Honey says they don't track your web browsing on "any site that is not a retail (shopping or service) site"; that clause about "service" is wide enough to drive a bus through. They also "share information... for the purpose of running Honey and fulfilling our commitment to you"; since their 'commitment' covers every website in existence that sells anything, that's such a blanket statement as to be essentially meaningless. Personally, I am highly suspicious of a free browser extension that has 200 employees and advertises on a large number of popular YT channels and podcasts (just that I've seen, don't know about other media). They say they make money through stores "sometimes pay[ing] us a fee"; this seems like complete tosh to me. Because, really, what store is going to have a marketing campaign mediated through a free browser extension? I've never heard Honey advertising a specific code or deal that they have with any store whatsoever. Honey has raised $40m in venture capital funding, but that's not going to pay the bills long-term. Plus, you know, privacy policies can change on a dime.
