i love it too, it doesnt feel like a bar of soap like the s8+ plus i can comfortably hold the phone without the corners digging in, like at all, i bought the phone specifically for the hard corners. that and no physical home button, and the scanner on the side. and project linda which i hope we hear more on soon. the bezels dont bother me so i can see the whole screen while holding two handed landscape, my pnly gripe i have about the phone is the corners should be a bit stronger. and that some apps dont use the mobile versions

Been using a Razer phone... MK 1... :D ..For nearly a year. Some points: Its bigger than my laptop. Its louder than the music played in my local pub. It doubles as a shield if you end up in some medieval war zone. By bigger trousers than normal, so the phone can fit in your pocket. Buy a belt for said trousers, as you will soon find them around your ankles due to the weight of the phone pulling them down. People think the Earth is flat... They just don't realize we are living on top of the razer phone. My first ever camera phone was a Motorola E365. That phone is nearly 20 years old. It had a better camera than my razer phone. It came in probably the sexiest box a phone could ever come in. I work in construction... and sometimes, I mistake this phone for a brick, patio slab, roof tile.... but on the plus side, if it rains, its so big I can work nderneath it and not worry about getting wet. The battery is pretty good. I find it tidy for playing a few games on. The official phone case for the Razer is... pants. Did I mention its loud? It gets warm with extended 'gaming/viewing' sessions. The phone is unique. Its an Android phone. I dont know anyone else who has this phone. I payed a daft amount of money for the phone. And since I payed so much for it... its the 'best' phone ever... (I keep telling myself this, and wont buy a new phone until this one dies, as I certainly wont lose it, because its to big) And now they've gone made a Mk 2 version? That is toilet proof..? I think they mean, if you drop it down the toilet, it'll just break the toilet pan.

It's pretty clear why, it takes up screen. Despite how big some phones get, the screen still isn't that big, and using some of that space just for bezels is silly. The only way to keep the screen size while not having thin bezels is to make the phone even bigger, which is also just not good. It's not just some fad, there's an actual, genuine reason why every tech reviewer criticizes phones with gigantic bezels.

While I am highly unlikely to buy this phone and have not touched or seen one in real life so based on what I have seen I think some of your comments may be a bit harsh. Personally, I would always prefer a 16:9 ratio phone over any of these new taller/wider (depending on how you hold it) ratios. Basically, all content at the moment comes in that ratio as you pointed out so viewing them you will either get black bars on the side or it is stretched. As for bezels, I would choose one with them too over one without them as they give you something to hold on to especially while gaming or watching something. while hard points are not ideal for pockets and holding I would sooner that if it meant you didn't lose screen real estate to round off the corners. That it doesn't have a notch is a great thing too. To me the biggest shortcomings of this is that the batter is still not exactly huge which is going to limit how much time you could game on it. I would hope that these gaming phones would have 5ah batteries in them at least.

It may not be worth the efffort when it comes to performance but i know for a fact that there are many people that prefer the larger bezals, i wont touch the screen with my palm when reaching to the top corner and it allows more hold for cases. The speakers are also cool cause there large, they can pump higher sound flow and as for the cornered edges, in my eyes at least it looks like a phone should, right angles like a screen or monitor and almost all videos on the internet and 3rd party apps designed for multiple devices are build with right angle renders it just seems more usefull to the trends of the rest of the world. And as for the poking into your palm? Since when would you push hard enough for that to hurt? The touch id is ok as is, you’ll learn its placement after using the phone for a while and if anything a case would help you locate it. Not tryna challenge linus but just want to point how some of these doubts can be good especially for an interested party.

Well, it's just my opinion, but bezel-less phones are a pain in the ass when it comes to gaming. You need some bezel so than you can grab your phone strong enough.

And considering Samsung has a lot of smartphone market, there is a lot people who got used to not place fingers anywhere on bezels. You could use the phone like that only if it's iPhone (excl. I'm using an s8+ when I put videos on fullscreen there would be two black bars on left and right, given the OLED display these look just like bezels on a phone like the iPhone 8 plus. This gives a 16:9 ratio by default. You can also pinch for the video to fill up the whole display, this crops a bit from the top/bottom. You are not losing anything from the 16:9 experience you're just getting more options so I dont understand where this bs is coming from. Display doesn't affect how comfortable phone is to hold sideways that's more to do with bezels, curved phones like the galaxies are more comfortable to hold than blocky phones such as this or sony xperias

You need a bezel on a gaming phone (or any phone really) so you have something to hang onto. If there's no bezel then your hands get in the way and it's a lot less comfortable to use. It's another reason I like to use larger phone protectors or cases.

Razer phone has some failures for sure, but its main ace is the screen. 1440p at 16:9. It has more ppi than the rog if I'm correct. As for bezels, it doesn't matter, do you ever notice bezels when gaming or using a phone? Only if it's a notch. Otherwise no. The only real issue with the bezels is while typing in horizontal mode, you stretch your thumbs out more. It's cameras, I'm not a camera nerd, but one thing I do know is a good photographer doesn't need a super camera, he does need to be able to adjust settings which this phone can't do. Maybe with camera software you could do that but I dunno, . But for regular pictures it's fine. I did download the Google pixl camera APK which gives you slow Mo so that's cool. Even cooler is when playing at normal speed it's at like 120 Hz which you can see! Only issue is it lags depending on your settings at times. As for the power button, you CAN tell where it is because the button is glossy compared to the matte frame, you will feel the difference in grip. As for performance, you can check linus' video. Ergonomics, well actually you get used to it. At first it feels loose but I think what happens is you subconciously make your hands stronger or something and you legit get used to it. As for case compatibility, I don't use a case, so I don't know. Btw I got the first one, the sides of the phone is still metal in the two I think. Razer phone does have quite a few issues, but bringing up things that aren't actually issues just pisses me off. REEEEEEEE

I got the phone 2. It is my daily driver still. And i am looking to put a custom rom in it specifically for gaming purposes. also in what universe linus is a 2:1 better than 16:9.. Razer phone also has a 120hz screen and the phone DOES NOT NEED liquid metal.. Got no clue why you would outright lie like that. Razer does sell a phone cooler too after all, it is just not included but neither is it with base model ROG.. Personally.. And this is coming from tinkering experience with the device, an updated rom, gpu drivers and better thermal compound or even a graphite thermal pad, you will likely not even need a cooler really. It wont do any harm though. 16;9 is also good for gaming, emulation and native android gameplay plus the dual front firing stereo speakers are just a joy to listen to. Plus if you add a cooler ontop of all other update mods, graphite, custom rom and gpu drivers, you can have more headroom for over clock, my own gpu clock is running at 994mhz and the performance cores are at 3.05ghz and the e-cores at 2ghz.. I can comfortably emulate pc games from between 06 to 2011 like that no problem.

One complaint is that you really need to have bezels on a "gaming" phone or any other portable gaming screens. You also need it to be more rectangular than usual. The samsung phones curvy edges and ridiculously beveled corners just doesn't work on emulators and the notch is another issue entirely. But they could have used the sony model that looks less box-y. At this point I woudn't buy any gaming phone until sony releases xperia play 2 with the sliding D-pad. Also full screen to body ratio is trash and for gimmick lovers. You can't hold those slippery pos for anything.

I dont think the Bezels are that much of a problem because they are actually used for speakers that sound phenomenal and its cimfortable to rest your fingers on them. 16:9 is also better for me because i watch most videos in this format. There are only 3 problems: camera, headphone jack and price. But even at this price you don' get anything that much better. You can trade great speakers and 120Hz for a good camera and a notch. Don't understand why everyone is bashing it so much... Just depends on your priorities and believe me: there are actually people that don't care about the camera that much.

Adreno 630 is a better GPU and Android is better for gaming overall, plus iPhone Xr doesn't have a vapor chamber and its Intel wireless chip is worse than the Qualcomm in the Razer, all of which are important for gaming. Edit: The Razer has expandable storage, another feature which may come in handy for gamers.

Ok so i have the razer phone one currently and these are my thoughts 1.having a 16x9 aspect is better than 18x9 (ive had the note 9 and the stupid aspect ratio was the most annoying thing about the phone while doing anything) 2. The ergonomics of the phone are better than any new phone out there. The square body allows you to grip the phone MUCH better than anything Samsung or LG has. 3. The screen to body ratio has no overall effect on the phone. Its better to have a larger bezel in my opinion for holding the phone. 4.the only downside ive noticed about the razer phone one is NO HEADPHONE JACK, WHY, and the screen isent very bright. The screen brightness was addressed in the new one though

I quite enjoyed the design aspects of the phone while I had it. Albeit it was my first time moving to such a large phone, it took time to get adjusted. However, it would have been nicer if they went with a lighter build because, over time, my wrists would tire holding it up while using it in bed lol. You know what would make me buy that Razer phone? the fact that it's square looking, very square much. I kind of like that matted, boxy, rectangular look, otherwise all these way too rounded and glossy plastic looking things are saturated for me and my feel of technology, it's been basically since beginning of smartphones. Razer can easily make it iconic slick shape, they made a laptop in the same shape type, square edges, straight simple lines, they have that boxy look of it, and I dig it, not these rounded and bevel edged and glossy plastic looking style. But it needs to be better (for the title of having "gaming" phone), otherwise...I would be fine anyway, I just don't need that stereo system, I just want a cool looking phone that does its job, has great capacity not just for OS and basic programs, but so that I can install at least bunch of others, and removable memory, and enough battery, and great camera. Of course the basic calling function and a watch, etc. Everything else can be thrown out for cots reduction.

Yeah I'm sorry, but this phone playing Runscape and GTA blew my mind. It's a niche device, it's incredible if suited to your lifestyle if you're a gamer. I'm a content consumer, gamer and work as a 3D Visualizer, so I want to be able to game when travelling light, I want to be able to watch Netflix with decent sound, and I want massive expandability for programs, films, music and images. I want a battery that last's for 3 fu**ing days with regular use!! The fingerprint sensor is genius, the location is by far the most ergonomic of the bunch (if you're right handed). IMO the first model was more clean, the RGB logo is unnecessary as it'll likely be covered up. The camera did need a lot of work but with a stable hand it can perform well. If Razer made this with simply a headphone jack, thinner speaker covorage and a proper camera suite, it'd be perfect for its audience. 7/10 still not surrendering to notch gate.

TBH coming from modern flagship with 18:9 and 19.5:9 aspect ratio it's kind of blessing to use 16:9 phone. Yes, it feels weird at first, but the more content you put it through the more you appreciate it. Most of the stuff on web is just not optimalized for different aspect ratio than 16:9 (16:10). I kind of like the square boxy design, it feels really dope in hand for me of course. What i don't like tho is the camera, but things can be improved dramaticaly if you download ported Pixel camera app from XDA (day and night difference), this really isn't a hardware but software issue, but given that Razer aren't experts in camera department, should be expected, they can't tweak it well enough. But boy the 120 Hz panel... if not for battery life, camera performance and design, just for the sake of the display it's good buy, especially now, when the price dropped.

Luv Linus, loved this review, but I so far love my Razer 2 phone, I still have my iPhone Xs max, but after trying out this phone I'm convinced I'm done with iPhone forever. All the things that Linus mentioned are valid, but some how it's greater than the sum of it's parts, and wow it games so nice, so so so nice. The shape makes it easier to hold, and the bezels while large make it look like a shrunken living room tv, which is so cool, and functionally I can see the whole screen without my fingers getting in the way when I'm holding it with two hands. I'm just soooo happy with it so far.

I don't get it either. Particularly when it make the product worse, buttons tucked away in awkward places you can't easily reach, less durability as the screen pretty much touches the edge of the phone making it more liable to crack if it lands on its side, speakers poining the wrong way and it's not just phones, heck with TV's they try and sell soundbars to you to compensate for the speakers being so poorly designed.
