@the_mind_of_gemini6 жыл бұрын
Spilling water on un-powered electronics is really no big deal at all. As stated in the video, all is well if completely dry before putting anything together and powering on. Now spilling a Cola on the mobo is something to freak out a little bit about; immediate power down, disassemble, rinse with generous amounts of filtered water, and the drying process.
@MiniDevilDF6 жыл бұрын
Water is still a problem. Although it can dry, and can't short circuit the board if there's no power.... the water still will leave behind moisture under chips and initiate slow corrosion of the board, which could take weeks or months, and will still cause issues down the line. You'd still want to rinse with alcohol.
@TonyMelon6 жыл бұрын
@@MiniDevilDF I thought it was cause your capacitors still would have some juice in them causeing a short that way, then again o live in a high climate everything air drys like a dream.

Ok for real though, the FTC has come out and said that warranty stickers are soon to be no longer legal.They will be cracking down on the companies that use them. Article: www.bbc.com/news/amp/technology-43724348
@transient_6 жыл бұрын
Well, a certain person very protective of big corporations and such will probably make sure this comes to nothing in the US. However, I'm pretty sure removing the IHS will continue to void your warranty.
@jort93z6 жыл бұрын
in germany the law is written in a way that the company would have to prove that the damage was caused by the customer(like for example through those liquid damage detection stickers) but breaking a warranty void seal is of course not prove that the customer broke it.

My boss is just as erratic and "fire from the hip" "don't think things through" as Linus, we diagnosed him with ADBD - attention deficit business disorder. His daily thought process consists of "hey ill do this quick repair" "oh its not so simple" "i think i broke this" "hey look at these cheap Chinese gadgets on eBay" "oh look a dog" "going to lunch back later" and doesn't return for days. I feel sorry for Linus employees.

You realize that "5Ghz" is a wireless frequency range and not a CPU I/O speed frequency range, they are two very different things, also routers have been operating on the 5Ghz spectrum band for years and CPUs have gone far past 5Ghz before, just check this place valid.x86.fr/records.html

You know what, since we're de-lidding our CPUs and voiding warranties left and right, why not just keep going!? Submerge a de-lidded CPU in mineral oil, or no, wait, how about submerging the whole build with a de-lidded CPU in a tub of nothing but nonconductive thermal paste!? I mean, cmon, warranty shmarranty!
@turtleb016 жыл бұрын
you just invented the only way to keep processor cool with intel stock cooler

Without special placeholder on retension mechanism, the cpu wouldn't get enough tension&lose contact with pads. And only oil surrounding the dies will be heated at first, and won't get optimized result in a long run. It'd be like submerging a shower head spraying hot water in a tub filled with lukewarm water.

@windhelmguard52956 жыл бұрын
personally i think they should skip that and skip straight to using NaK it's an alloy made from sodium and potassium, it's a liquid metal at room temperature and can be pumped without any moving parts, using two electrodes, a direct current and a magnet. It also reacts explosively with water, oxygen and is highly corrosive.
