I was about to ask how long ago this was recorded since we found out about Lenovo's handheld on Tuesday. SteamOS will also be released before the Lenovo S as a public Beta for Handhelds. The desktop variant is still being worked on behind the scenes

Currently testing the latest git version for gaming and it's getting better everytime I test it each month and there is finally more animations for windows minimising and maximising so it's becoming a solid option, by the first beta it will already be a decent option for most users on desktop and maybe high end laptops, I cannot wait for the full release as by then it should be stable AF I think

If I'm system76's marketing person I'm hoping that by Sept-Oct they can release a big fancy version of PopOS with Cosmic and emphasise it as being an alternative to Window for gaming so that come Oct and win10 goes EOL they can be a big focal point for where people should go if they don't want win11. The only concern is maybe Valve will beat them to it.

the nexus app just doesn't work for me, tried the appimage as well as the normal binary. Takes ages to load, and when it does open the fonts are all wrong (shows what looks like conky symbols) and I'm unable to sign in via the app.

One thing to note is if you have installed a previous version of nexusmods app you need to clear it's config folder in .config, you don't have to do this anymore with the next versions that come out but if you had a previous version installed before you needed to remove that previous version and start over when updating to a newer one, I had plenty of issues testing newer versions until I knew that I had to start over my scratch

@@linuxnext Last week, but I had already killed the folder in .config after having the issues. The app did used to work when I was on mint, but I ended up changing to rhino mid last year. It was when I noticed it supported cyberpunk I ended up trying it again. I did end up moving to limo for mods on cyberpunk. I just had to make my own .desktop file to manage the nxm links

Adobe ship has done sailed even most Windows and Mac users have moved onto the alternatives. Only thing keeps them in business is professionals and big graphics design firms. Most companies I've worked at in the last 5 years have moved over to Libreoffice so even Office is not as big as it once was. There's always the online options. Really only hangup is those DRM riddled games and software outside of those Linux is pretty much ready for regular use.

All my hardware except for my wifi card are perfectly supported on linux. My wifi card has an issue. My internet speed gets capped to 3MB/s. I don't have any clue why this happens, but doesn't seem to happen on chromeos and android x86 forks which also use the linux kernel. Can someone provide me a fix?

Unfortunately vulkan video encoding doesn't work with amd gpu. It produces glitched video (at least on 7800 xt) even though it has been released in mesa. Intel also has issues. It only really works on nvidia. It also seems like amd devs have moved on to working on other things instead for now.

@@DtemplarK its a mixture and its always depends on the use case, vulkan video encode isnt something we need necessarily, amd hasnt even rlly talked about their rdna4 cards yet so there isnt rlly any comparisons yet of which one is a better buy, amd in my opinion is generally better for desktop and gaming even if it has some issues here and there on the rolling based distros this is because of the drivers being foss so anyone can contribute like valve which has made the experience playing games a lot better but again it rlly depends on what the user wants to do with their computer and which is a better buy at that time of upgrading

For me davinci resolve is easy to install. The installer resembles the one from windows. Davinci itself works without problems after installation.

The issue is that depending on your specific distro version, it's dependancies can be totally broken. This is why I really want then to have a flatpak.

@@adam91303 that's good to hear but that isn't everyone's experience, after installing from the setup that they provide, on arch you try and launch it nothing will happen and if you run through the terminal it spits out some errors that you need to go and research to fix so that it can launch properly, it's why a Flatpak is needed, yes it works for you but you need to be thinking of others and Flatpak is a great solution for a app to work on every single distro so everyone is happy

@@linuxnext I also use Flatpaks and they work great. I once read on the Davinci forum that there is no way for davinci to be in flatpak because it is a very complex program etc. Maybe in the future this will change and the developers will make it available to us, who knows.

Alot of people swear by Bazzite. Nobara also has a handheld mode and ChimaeraOS is probably closest to SteamOS. SteamOS Beta for Handhelds will be coming out in a few months

This is going to happen all the time if you're using Windows games. I switch to Linux on July 15, 2003 and never went back to Windows. I never gave up gaming either. I just changed how I game. I game with Linux games. Guess what all Linux games work in Linux. I also never sold any of my Windows games from 1995-2003. I can say all my past Windows games work in Linux. It took 7 years(2010) to that happen for my complete old Windows games to work in Linux with zero problems.

Well I've been using CACHY OS handheld edition and it runs very good on my PC I have the same thing as my steam deck and I'm not using some of the latest hardware but it still works for emulation and a few games that don't require a lot of power and I like that I don't have the big guy spying on me everywhere like when I use Windows 10 before they switched up to 11 but I feel like it's just going to be a clone of Apple

@@linuxnext and the animation administrator I just remember how it's called on Dickie loader but it works with the custom boot animations because not even chimera os or bazzite os they don't work I tried them photo of this system I don't have those problems kind of crazy but I really enjoy a lot because I have a system that has a little bit of emulation and a little bit of PC gaming I'm just going to update the hardware that I have for something just a bit more powerful and I think that will be it because I'm not looking to get the latest and greatest games I'm just looking to use the best games that I know I will play

Yeah it's definitely possible that will happen, I think with steamos and legion go s becoming available more publicly something like that may happen, and more vendors will jump on board with installing steamos on their handhelds once steamos is in beta

@@linuxnext to put it this way: on my GPD Pocket 4 64GB, my Windows 11 Partition will only be 1 8th of the SSD I'm slapping onto that device. I'll only have one out of 10 laptop/desktop computers in my house running Windows as a primary OS by the end of the year and the one is for work because Libre Office is not quite good enough yet.
