Important: If there is no reaction while holding reset and If you have previously installed Emuelec or other. You may have changed the default u-boot and the system will not be able to activate universal multi-boot. Holding and pressing reset will not work and tv box will boot to android. I followed this on an older TX5 Pro with the S905X (seems newer ones have 905X3 & Android 9) , using the TX3 mini .dtb as there seems no file for the TX5 Pro . Have never messed with the box before. It seems to be stuck at the Amilogic S905X logo. Maybe suggestion on which .dtb to use?

@@knerduno5942 .dtb is the map of hardware first try "meson-gxl-s905x-p212" if it doesn;t work you can also try all with s905x (tx3 mini is s905w so it wont work). btw is your box booting to android without memory card, if yes your box is ok.

@@knerduno5942 oh!! i choose a random image of the two available (and settings are as per my test box x96mini). Still both the images are released at same time i don't think it will make a difference yet you can try if you like. It happens some time that the support is dropped for old but s905x is not that old. generic images without the box name are likely for this purpose Search the net and also check their help forum. On the other hand non worked have you edited extlinux.conf properly (add comment on two allready un commented and remove comment from the two as per you box).

Reflashing android provou ser útil neste caso, ainda é fácil, pode ser um pouco problemático sem o arquivo flash adequado, pois pode brickar a caixa de tv. também obter a mesma rom de fábrica pode ser um problema. e se você está planejando usar apenas o método pc para flash. outros métodos não são tão confiáveis.

If its amlogic this tutorial will work. Have you checked the steps 1. rename u-boot-s905 > uboot.ext 2.edit extlinux.conf add dtb name and uncomment the required dtb and add comment to others. 3.Then just hold rest button then add power after 2-3 seconds release reset button. That is the way Only exception will be if you have previously flashed it with emuelec or core elec. then it wont work.

I believe you might have find the solution, if not..firstly cause of problem. 1. Interrupted burning. 2. problem with file(may be) 3. Card reader . 4. May be something else Solution It might not be visible on disk drive , but can be found as raw volume in disk partition/disk management. Just format it there to fat32 or NTFS. It will be visible again. 1.Now again while formatting make sure file extension ends with .img not with any .zip or any other compression format. 2. Use balena etcher or other which varify burning. 3. After flashing it got disconnected, so unplug and plug again. Hope you will find it helpful

tried different SD cards and dont have the u-boot files nor the extlinux.conf...i do use balena etcher to burn the img files (Armbian_21.02.0-trunk_Aml-s812_focal_current_5.10.0_.img) but to no avail... i tried and old img file (Armbian_20.05.3_Aml-s812_bionic_current_5.7.0-rc3-gbec4f4648-dirty_20200427.img) again nothing... i do change the DTB file path in uEnv.txt to point to the proper DTB but to no avail...trying to load armbian on a minix x8h+ box (s812) and cant get passed the logo even after trying to boot with the reset pin held in... now i know the s812 series are a pain but did anyone get it to work and how ??... walk-through if possible

Methods are updated over time. Old images and old methods includes copying the whole dtb files into root folder and renaming them into dtb.img and change path on unev file to proper dtb image try that. Glad you find this tutorial helpful!! This is a common problem with most of the tv boxes.(onboard wifi doesn't work and its hard to make it work). On the other hand you can try different dtb's (map of all the hardware present on board) as per your processor. Still due to hardware difference some problems may persists. Best solution try some external method. Ethernet, mobile tethering, wifi dongle( check on armbian forum before buying if it is supported). Check their forum www.armbian.com/

Sorry to hear that. default root is "root" Pass"1234" if you have changed there can be ways, yet i suggest to reinstall. about keyboard not working, if reinstalling doesn't solve, power may be an issue. Sometimes problems like such also lies with memory card. Still better to visit their forum.

So I got a mxq pro 4k that's using the Rk3228A. im using a Mac and attempting all this (never did this stuff.. trying to get linux on there so I can add some other stuff also..) and man im downright struggling hardcore. IM reading about a multitool that I can't seem to find? and I dunno how to tell what kinda memory it has? "NanD or eMMC etc" Ive looked at all my chips but im not seeing any of those types of abreviations at all. On the chip with the heatsink I seen RK3228A and on the SD card slot theres a sticker that says RK329 and the board itself has the letters R329Q_v3.1 on it. Hi Rohan to your question i think not by this way as due to some reasons (basically new amlogic boards proved headache) they dropped support for newer amlogic tv box. Yet if you still want, go to armbian site and try other methods for s905x3 as some sbc also got s905x3 (i.e odroid c4). They will work somehow. But it is only advised if you got backup image for your box as they might include formatting everything and bricking (thats my assumption) still check if you find some interesting way and do share if you find a better way. also check on manjaro arm too for s905x3.

No worries its safe. It will be installed on memory card, no effect on android or internal storage. When memory card is present it will boot to linux. without memory card it will boot to android. To remove it completely (if any case you dont want it) format the card. Kindly take note holding reset button is necessary for first boot only. There is an option to put it on internal. but its not suggested as that will remove android.

There is no official support for tv boxes. armbian for tv box too is maintained by a single guy(balbes150). But if you are looking to try something else other than armbian 1. Libreelec(kodi) 2. Emuelec(retro gaming) (Keep in mind flashing above may effect boot loader and you won't be able to flash armbian unless you reflash android). Other option if your tvbox processor is known enought to be present in a popular sbc you can try their linux images. Still no official support. But do Google..search.

Quick question.. I have MXQ PRO 4K with s905x(amlogic).. I got desktop up and running. If I shutdown, remove SD Card, boot back up, will I still be set? Or do I HAVE TO leave the SD card in the box? ***EDIT*** - okay I just read that using the SD card , is basically installing it on the SD Card, so I am assuming I HAVE to leave SD Card in. So.. how would I install on EMMC or whatnot instead of SD Card? And is there even a benifit of installing on EMMC ? Lastly, I could only get internet by using hotspot on phone and having box connect to hotspot via Bluetooth. I couldn’t connect with WiFi, what’s that? I didn’t try a hard line yet.

Hi chadwin85 no need to install on Emmc as it will work fine with sd card. and 1. If you need to revert back to android you just have to remove sd card. 2 In case of install on Emmc android will be lost and reformatting to android is troublesome due to lack of proper flash file. (more troublesome with amlogic boards.) 3. And yes there are issues with somethings not working wifi is first , media payback is second. Still if you like to try do visit armbian forum.

Aida64 and cpu-z on android tv (ie board: p281 for x96mini) both got that information or just search the processor . And they are buggy sometime something may not work like wifi. Still if its not booting then problem is somewhere in editing can you share whats not working.

Only u-boot.ext file is needed there.Just rename the one based on your processor from these present, delete the other two and make sure to hold reset button 1-3sec while powering.

@@omiltech.c82 thanks dude Currently having go with Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0_desktop, issue is im getting tossed i to initramfs, ROOTFS wasn't labeled properly or isn't read. The dtb is set to p200, running an mini m8s on s905, 2GB ram, 100mbit nic with Realtek WiFi. The card is solid, may be the sdcard controller. Going to try the bullseye desktop build next tho I've had issues with the sdcard controller before. had to manually rebuild the dtb (dtb to dtc, revise addresses and back) to get a libreelec build going.

@@cid3384 No problem, by the way have you properly edited "extlinux.conf" two lines need to be un-commented and last one have to do with rootfs(and add comment to two which are not related to your box). check that section again if it helps.

@@omiltech.c82 did that man, started reading around, might be the new sd card, it's a Sandisk High Endurance 32gb U3 C10 V30 microSDHC. I believe it might be too new for the boards's sd controller. I did see an error at post, rather while kernel was booting, mmc2 could not be accessed. This is where the partition for ROOTFS probably is.

Fernando unlike windows, linux is released every year (Bullseye, focal etc are yearly versions of debian linux. check this link for version history en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian_version_history .(Hirsute will be the upcoming.) And for installing armbian on your tv box rockchip Rk3229 method go to www.armbian.com/rk322x-tv-box/ as there is an official image and guide available. Suggestion: Download image with desktop written under and follow method to install on sd card don't install on emmc or nand as that will remove android.

First use notepad++ if not then you can use any one to replace under your processor rockchip, amlogic etc (it's just address of file) then last line of specific processor needs to be uncommented.

Still if its working you got options as retro console through retroarch, youtube or kodi even linux terminal emulator is available for android. Dtb is like a map of hardware and due to different vendors it may be different . You can try all relating to s905w if particular not working. Example box is x96mini s905w which works with p281 or may be some other too(one or more thing might not work). Its just editing and updating name in extlinux.conf file. Just dont forget to hold reset button and then power.

Thanks for the suggestion!!! will try to, still manjaro currently supports specific hardware of some popular single board computers. Due to processors it can be used on some same spec tv boxes. But i am worried as due tv boxes power supply limit(basically all are 5v 2a comapring to 5v 3a-4a of sbc) and vendor specific different specs no support will be available or even can damage tv boxes (my own assumption). Yet your suggestion is appreciated if not proper video on manjaro then will try to provide some other options. As if you got one working linux it can be updated to any other.

@@arhamruhan7897 Any linux can be customized as per need just change the desktop environment.if your tv box can handle update to kde or plasma, or any other search for commad lines. that method will be much better than manjaro because you get hw accerlation allready implemented on armbian. unlike manjaro where video playback may not work. only difference present will be manjaro is based on arch and armbian is based on debian, also working one is better than buggy disto and check this link for some suggestion forum.armbian.com/topic/10526-using-different-desktop-environments-on-armbian/

If it is restarting to android than problem is with u-boot (turn uboot of your processor to u-boot.ext. If not you might have left something commented or un-commented in extlinux.conf file (as there are some allready un-commented by default make them commented if not by adding # . Check the video and description. If problem persists download an older image of month back or so.

@@arhamruhan7897 A simple rule if its the right dtb it will work other wise wont. You can try different it wont harm tv box, but without proper instruction it wont start look for same processor if s905w then go for s905w (as uboot is also different for s905w and s905x) dtb is just a map for particular hardware and processor.

Hi Alan, wifi not working out of the box is a common problem with tv boxes. If you want to find and install drivers, go to www.armbian.com/ check for your box drivers in their forum. Still it is kind of based on luck. i suggest try external method to ethernet, mobile phone tether or external wifi dongle (if supported by armbian)

Method is different but a proper guide is available here www.armbian.com/rk322x-tv-box/ .Read carefully and its suggested to install on sd card as that will be safe.

These are multi in one images for android tv boxes with amlogic, rockchip, alwinner (armbian suppored)processor inside (basically budget tv boxes). shield got nvidia tegra. ubuntu for shield is present (i believe)still cant say it will work as nvidia tegra is closed source. Yet for feel you can use desktop for android like sentio or leena and as android allready got linux kernel so terminal emultor can be used. That way will save you a lot of trouble of using a buggy os.
