@@N95G my first distro was arch, but I learned how to use it from virtual machines, you might not have time for that so here's a few distros I recommend: Linux mint (beginner friendly, easy to use, Ubuntu based) ZorinOS(beginner friendly, runs windows programs well, but it has lots of unnecessary apps, Ubuntu) Linux lite (not bloated, lightweight, made for beginners, not many tutorials on it) Manjaro(arch based, easy GUI app installer, many desktop environment choices) EndeavorOS (arch based, intermediate level, but easy to figure out) Arch based distro use the newest version of each program you install, but they might not be stable, you can manually install older versions though. Ubuntu based distros have stable apps, but they are older. Some Ubuntu based distros are bloated.

depends on what programs you use. if all the programs you use are available on linux then i'd say it's time to learn linux. just gaming is a bit wonky... sometimes games have 20% more performance on linux other times they won't even start

As a professional programmer for 20 years I’d say it’s almost obligatory that you should use Linux as a computer science student, assuming you don’t want to go down the route of specifically programming for Windows or using their cloud platforms.
