I did a short trip through Germany and Belgium starting from the Netherlands. My first stop was at Bonn and from there I did a day trip to Linz am Rhein. They day was a bit special, I got sun, rain and wind. Despite that, it was an enjoyable trip there, my only regret is not continuing until Koblenz, a city a bit more to the south, on the banks of the Rhine
On this video I’m just going to walk the city, and show you a bit of it.
---------------------------------------------------------
Linz am Rhein is a municipality in the district of Neuwied, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the right bank of the river Rhine near Remagen, approx. 25 km southeast of Bonn and has about 6,000 inhabitants.
The town is also a destination for tourists thanks to its location next to the Rhine river and its colourful half-timbered houses.

Hello Lucas, to answer your question at 4:19 why the city was probably empty at the time: 1. The town has a lovely public swimming pool where a lot of the local people are spotted. (Located exactly at the other direction of the town :) ) 2. Sadly a lot of businesses had to close over the time because the direction of activities changed (escpecially for younger people). I think a big reason for that is the population. No big business would move to the area (because of the low interest) and so a lot of people are most likely drive to Bonn for doing activities with friends and family (for example Bonn, Bad Honnef or Neuwied). As you mentioned, with the train you can be very fast at places like Bonn. 3. It was maybe not the right time. At 5 pm a lot of people are still working or enjoying the weather at home. Maybe you should visit Linz at the weekend. The "Marktplatz" has a lot of festivals. If they take place the city is full. (If you Google it you should find good pictures of the festivals, like the carnival or wine festival). Also when its very shiny and hot, a lot of people are found at the center like the Marktplatz because the businesses are opened (a lot of businesses probably didnt opened at the time when i saw it correctly in the video). To recap: I think you had a little bit of bad luck with the people. Yes the city can be very empty at times but if it is full of people you will have an other experience :) But sadly times are moving very fast and as i mentioned in point 1. The interest of "our area" is slowly fading and going to bigger places like Bonn, Cologne and bigger cities. With all due respect, "older" people are still around and are filling the city, but especially our younger generation isn't much interested in "free time activites" of the town. Of coure we are still in the town and take place at the events of for example carnival, but thats it. Hope you enjoyed the visit of the town! It is really better to visit Linz am Rhein when its in the mid summer season. Maybe then you see the town from another perspective. Enjoy your trips!
