Knowing German, I looked up Dingo’s first Lion King movie, which the gopher talk about at the beginning, and hilariously, when they are talking about “little Robin’s cleverness” and how he defeated the Black Panther, they are talking about how the latter staged a coup and banished the lion family out of their kingdom but Robin came back and fed the panther some poisoned food that knocked him out and Robin and friends then sent him downriver on a raft while he was still paralyzed. Truly the most cunning and heroic of ways to defeat your foe and not at all a dangerous and underhanded trick a villain would employ.

I work at a flea market and one day a dvd case got donated to us, i opened and saw this really crummy disk where was obvious knock off copy of Bambi called "Goldie".. I took the DVD to safety and with friends we watched it and what ya know! It happened to be a Dingo Pictures production! We laughed our asses off to how bad it was and now i can say that i'm a "proud" owner of a dingo pictures movie.

Update on the story! About 2 plus weeks later of finding this Goldie DVD made by Dingo pictures i come across another DVD case which was an obvious rip off from Disney's Tarzan. The cover art looked decent (by dingo standars) and i check if it said "Dingo pictures" anywhere on the box. When i couldn't find any i picked the movie up to watch it with my friend. Because yeah we looove watching these horrible movies together. But after 5 seconds in the movie we all realized that oh god it was another Dingo Pictures production!! And it was dubbed in my native language and i can say the dub was as bad as dingo pictures English dubs ugh.. But yes.. That was the update for now, stay tuned because who knows i might find a third Dingo Pictures DVD soon enough!

After watching the new review, I love what Dingo decided was necessary for continuity vs. what wasn’t. *Necessary:* the monkeys and hippo arguing about sleeping, diamond mining, vulture spies *Unnecessary:* characters, backstory, important details that may affect the momentum and direction of your plot (like Robin not knowing where the diamonds are hidden, despite instructing everyone where to put them.)

They exploit a loophole in German law that allows their investors to use the movie as a tax write off if it bombs. Thus they make it as awful as possible.

Apparently, you can get some of the DVDS from the US Amazon. A cheap DVD company known as "East West Entertainment" were able to get their hands on the movies. Most of them were shockingly were bundled with classic public domain cartoons with better animation and production standards to boot. Most of them are cheap while some, like their Aladdin and Prince of Egypt knockoffs are outrageously expensive.

I have a little more speculation on Dingo Pictures. From some of what I've seen, and a little extra just for closing the point, Dingo seems to be a company based off, most likely, propaganda animators from east Germany. After the east-west split was dissolved, many of them would, likely, be without work. So a small company in the Netherlands saw a chance, in the late 1990's or so, to hire cheap animators to release budget versions of larger-scale films. Due to copyright issues, Dingo probably saw a chance to get their movies out via PS1 media discs, and I guess that worked out.

I grew up in Norway during the late 1990s and early 2000s. We had the Norwegian dub on several of the movies of Dingo Pictures and Goodtimes Productions. Fun fact: In our version, the kid characters were always voiced by kids, the male characters were always voiced by males, and the same went for the female ones. Also, the dialogue was re-worked to be grammatically accurate. Also, good guys always sounded like good guys, and villains always like villains...

YMS did a really good video on the Kimba/Lion King controversy which actually does a good job of showing that contrary what most people think, The Lion King actually didn't rip it off as Kimba is a large franchise with several anime series, films, and began as a manga. He also showed how their similarities are simply due to Kimba having so many episodes and its themes are actually the opposite of the Lion King's Circle of Life theme while Kimba is actually features animals including the main character Kimba (aka Leo) who seek to become civilized like humans (there is also this weird situation where Kimba keeps the pelt of his father who was killed by humans (as the Lion villain that looks like Scar but is unrelated to Kimba and has no role in his father's death) which seems to be some weird tradition in Kimba's family according to one episode of the first Kimba anime which also introduces Kimba's sister. The similarities between the two are simply the result of the nature of the setting and people cherry picking scenes from different anime or films (specifically Jungle Emperor Leo which was released after the Lion King though that doesn't stop people from using scenes from it to support the idea that The Lion King is a rip off of Kimba). Additionally that Lion cloud which appears at the end of the manga, actually not Kimba's father but Kimba himself as the manga ends with his death and it doesn't speak like Mufasa's spirit did in Lion King. Additionally the son of Tezuka who created Kimba (as well as Astro Boy) actually came out in defense of Disney and The Lion King. Tezuka was also a huge fan of Walt Disney and loved watching Bambi as a kid (in fact Kimba has more in common with Disney's Bambi as they both had a parent killed by a human). Heck, YMS even showed an obscure unrelated (to both Lion King & Kimba) comic featuring another Lion named Simba (as Simba is another word for Lion) showing panels with animals doing scenes similar to what can be seen in both Lion King & Kimba. And yes, YMS even addresses Simba's voice actors comments regarding the controversy (as he assumed The Lion King was based on Kimba and even thought he was going to play Kimba when he first got the role to play Simba in The Lion King which some view as a smoking gun that Disney is guilty). I have to give Phelous props for focusing on his review of the Dingo Lion King ripoff as the Kimba/Lion King controversy is a whole can of worms that would bog down the review. Wonder if anybody at Midus knew about the controversy given use of Kimba anime stills for the "games". Maybe they erroneously believed Lion King did rip off Kimba and thought of it as a kind of payback or poetic justice.

I'm not surprised people believe Kimba was ripped off by Disney given the popular concept of "Disney is Evil". However I think that if they hypothetical really wanted to make a Kimba film, they could have to Tezuka Productions (and/or English distributor) and buy up the rights. Given Tezuka was a fan of Walt Disney, they'd likely have no problem with this. The narrative that they would rip off a relatively obscure anime (I mean it is no where near as well known as Astro Boy and I didn't even know about it until I read about the controversy) seems to have also been used by the English distributors of Kimba to use the controversy to promote Kimba to a wider audience taking advantage of the situation for free publicly by promoting Kimba as the "real" inspiration behind the Lion King when they are simply unrelated stories that feature similarities due to the African setting and English audiences unfamiliar with the Kimba series and its themes (which are actually counter to The Lion King's Circle of Life as Kimba forces carnivores to become vegetarians like him and in one episode even wears clothing which if I remember correctly resemble clothing worn by Mickey Mouse, which was presumably a homage if my memory is correct, thus the theme of Kimba is TO BE LIKE THE HUMAN).

Guess Dingo Pictures decided to make MAH GOD Lion a follower of "Kimba's Vegetarian Diet for Lion Royalty" rather than Simba's pro-Circle of Life Diet (which includes bugs though prohibits Warthog, Meerkat, and eating your non-Lion friends/sidekicks, unless their dead as carrion feeding is still allowed cause Circle of Life).
