It's absolutely random. Sometimes the giraffes get away, sometimes they fall, it really depends, but adults giraffes, just like elephants, are not usually the pride safest meal, since they are way too difficult to take on. Angry male giraffes are a pain to deal with, those kicks when they hit a lion face easily breaks some teeth and causes some nose bleed and enough pain that the pride just gives up. Very rarely they stun and very very rarely they knock out a male lion in a single hit. Nature is not brutal at all, it's just random. Sometimes you will really just see "Mother Giraffe saves her offsprings from evil predators", and sometimes you will just see "Family of Giraffes gets slaughtered by lion pride".

1 This is one of the things i really hate about the filming/documentary process. But then, we wouldn't have these kind of rare footage. One question from me: do these people provoke in some form or fashion the death of animals for the sake of filming? 2 I think this is an unfair assessment. While i do agree that there are some people who don't care about their children the way you or i think they should, i want to believe this is a small percentage of people that unfortunately gets magnified. 3 That made me chuckle.
