Oh my goodness I’m so happy someone noticed your phrase “taking out the misses” - you say it in every LR game and I think it’s so charmingly British! Thought it was just me! On another note, fascinated to watch similar forces going at each other with different rule sets. Always interesting to see how that plays out.

Haha, I honestly never noticed it before, I wonder if I can stop saying it. Yes, it is interesting to use different rules for same factions. I think Saga favours Byzantines, but LR favours knight armies, despite my win. 👍

@@wargameshobby oh don’t stop! You should print it on a T-shirt, it’s a great catch phrase! Btw isn’t this your first win with your Byzantines?

Haha, good idea. The Byzantines have won twice now. On a roll. :)

Good question. I wondered the same when we arranged the first game. Seemingly, although the Crusaders recognised Byzantium overlordship of Anatolia, there were strained relations at various times, resulting in conflicts, although on a small scale. So perfect for a skirmish. Check The Crusader States book page 82. 👍

Further to this, the Crusaders included various Teutonic orders in the first and second Crusades.

Very nice game! I really like how the activations work and the simplicity (elegance?) of this set and it’s “Dragon” cousin. But it seems like for a dark ages/medieval rule set that shooting seems a bit too effective? I think I’m just used to shooting being more about disordering and melee being more about “kills”.
@wargameshobby Жыл бұрын
I have similar views, especially on foot bows. Although historically, composite bows were deadly as was proved by the Mongol Hordes. However, they did back that up with good heavy cavalry. The English longbow was deadly, but it still took fighting on foot and mud to decide Agincourt. 😀

@@wargameshobby I agree. And even in the case of the Mongols, I wonder how much of their effectiveness was being on an open plain with constant harassment with shooting that the enemy could not really deal with because of the open plain that eventually disordered and/or disheartened the enemy to a point where their own heavier cavalry move in for a decisive melee. Of course this is quite difficult I think to model on the wargaming table, so perhaps if the “effect” in terms of a game representation is the same as it plays out in these rules then what’s really the difference?

Yes, it's almost impossible to re-create how it worked, but we have fun trying. :)
