Good video. If im not mistaken, the roof hatches on the boxcars are from when some boxcars got converted into grain cars.

The roof hatch cars hauled kaolin slurry to paper mill plants in the south.

Merry Christmas to you and your lovely assistant. Once again excellent pieces. I believe on other railroads the roof hatches were for grain loading. First time I have seen one for clay loading. Must have only loaded the car about half way. I think Clay would be to heavy if the car was filled all the way. Another great video.

Overall nice switcher and great detail.The only thing I'm having a hard time with is that the number boards on the Southern Pacific and Boston and Maine don't light up. I think Lionel falsely advertised that a little.The other lines did because they were placed on the side of the directional lighting.They should have disclosed that on those two particular road names that the number boards do not light up. lol I dunno bummer

Picked up the CNW offering of this model today. The trucks are different for sure as one was very tight.! I could loosen the truck screw from under the car instead of disassembling the entire car to get to the screw for the trucks inside the car.! The detail on these cars is fantastic right down to the see through cat walks.! The new trucks seem to work fine so far even through my last three O31 curves.
